A pattern created by three successive peaks in a chart. The second peak is higher than the first and the third peak is lower than the second, thereby creating the impression of a head (the highest high) on top of two shoulders -- the left shoulder being the first peak, and the right shoulder being the third peak. Head and Shoulder patterns are typically reversal patterns. The can occasionally be continuation patterns, but those are rare.
