I was looking for a partial hedge so I can stay long and not feel so much pain if we have another Monday like yesterday. $VIX calls are really expensive right now so even if the market goes down, the $VIX calls could lose value. Maybe I could short some QQQ? Even if the NAS goes up, my individual stocks would more than make up for my loss in covering $QQQ at a higher price. If the market goes down, my account would still go down but the hedge would offset about a quarter of my losses.

- phgruver: The elephant in the room, $AMZN also reported after the bell yesterday. They reported EPS of $1.26/share vs expectations of $1.03/share. YOY earnings were up from $0.65/share. Revenue came in a little light at $147.98B vs expectations of $148.76B, but still, an YOY increase of 10%. Forward guidance was lowered a little, but $AMZN is still looking for a growth rate of 8% to 11%. Here too, price targets are being adjusted, but mostly, they are still in the $200 to $230 range.

- TraderGeekSam: It was a strange coincidence that the $VIX closed at 16.36 yesterday, exactly 3.00 points from the spike peak on Friday. It refused to close below that level to give added credence to the broad market buy signal. Right now, VIX calls are priced over 30% lower than puts, suggesting that we've seen the worst of the decline today (famous last words!) This morning, we touched the top end of the weekly options implied expected move in the $SPX at 5563 and the lower bound is all the way down at 5355. SPX has 73 points expected through tomorrow's close with $AAPL and $AMZN earnings and non-farm payrolls. Buckle up!

- phgruver: $AMZN looks interesting, to me, right here. It's bouncing off the lower Bollinger Band. The last 2 times it did this, it ran back up to the upper BB. Two things to keep in mind, though: 1) the upper ceiling is $200. It failed there 8 times back around the first of July. 2) Earnings are next week, Aug 1, after market close.

One comment about $MU: $MU is testing the 50-day moving average. Support continues to hold at current levels, but this stock is looking pretty sluggish. I did open back $AVGO but just 2 shares with a tight stop below friday's low since I'm heading out now so I wont be around for a few hours. I did notice that the Chalkin money flow indicator is going south on many of the stocks I watch, even if price is still in the upper right. Just sayin'
- TraderGeekSam: The Consumer Discretionary sector ($XLY) outperformed all major sectors this week, up 3.8%. However, this outperformance was only within the market-cap major sectors last week.
