  • DAN: @Bob G $DOV Hey Bob. Noticed your post from last night. If you didn't get any responses to it, it's b/c the post was so late in the evening, and the forum gets refreshed at midnight and a new page is created. Thanks for your contribution, buddy. I appreciate it. $DOV is in a good weekly uptrend along the 50-day moving average. It's a bit extended now and not something I would buy at this level. But definitely a stock you want to watch. 8-) Dan
  • Bob G: $DOV ; Hey all, just wanted to contribute one to the group. Been on this one since it's last lift off. The little correction and then the move higher on increasing volume has me moving into a small position and hopefully more soon. I have the volume turned off on the attached chart but if you look you will notice 2 days of increasing volume and then above overage volume today. Good luck

  • woodman: $DOV - nice move.
  • mradams0621: @woodman $DOV Could I get you to take a quick look at $ABBV. News is a new Citron short. It bottom bounced a couple bucks yesterday interday and my thesis for a day trade was the squeeze today would resolve higher as the shorter term shorts would close out the books for the week. So far so good, but now i'm waiting to see the close and wondering if I should just hold part of it over the weekend. I'm at my target on the original plan so I should just sell on the first indication it's moving lower, but if it continues up into the close, the daily will show "day one" of the turn around if it has found a bottom. Any thoughts?
  • woodman: @mradams0621 $DOV $ABBV - I'm not a day-trader. Your post is better directed to someone like @champ, I think. I'm more a swing trader, buy on dips (particularly stocks moving in the right direction), sell the rips, sell when I'm wrong, take some off ...
  • mradams0621: @woodman $DOV $ABBV Thanks muchly for your response. I have followed your posts for years with great interest. I have had good luck with $ABBV in the past but lost it on the last big pull back and am interested in rebuilding the position when the time is right which starts with a day trade. But with the citron short news and the headline risk regarding drug pricing it is most likely wishful thinking to assume this level of support is a bottom. Better to just stick with the plan, take the small profit on the day trade and watch this one for a while. Thanks again.
  • woodman: @mradams0621 $DOV $ABBV - At this level, consider giving it a chance to bounce on Monday by using a stop below today's intraday low. That is, let it take you out rather than you taking yourself out by just selling it here. It's bouncing here in the second part of the day. Figure you put your stop somewhere about another 2.5+% down from where it is right now, so you'd have to decide whether you can tolerate that. Good luck.
  • Margi1983: $DOV squeezing and tight to 50 day and 200 day. Dan, what do you think?
  • DAN: @Margi1983 $DOV Not today, Margi1983. There's not much of a base for my tastes. I think it's just too soon after the failure at $80. We'd need to see a bit more churning at current levels. I do see what you are looking at. But to be perfectly objective, look at the slope of the 50-day moving average. Still sloping downward. I like to see them flat or moving up. It's just a "criteria" I have...but not a firm rule. DOV still looks a bit volatile to me.
  • Margi1983: @DAN $DOV Dan, Thanks for your honesty on $DOV. Your advice has really helped my trading since the February correction. As a guy who followed the "Chart of the Day" for several years, I'm glad that I finally joined SMM this past Fall:)
  • DAN: @Margi1983 $DOV That's great to hear, Margi1983. Really glad you are finding value in your membership here. We all work really hard to make this a great trading resource. I appreciate your post...and your faith in us here. Dan

  • Ottawagreg: @DAN $COHR $OLED $YY $BLD $ESNT $GGG $WUBA $WB $PRAH $KMT $GDI $CBOE #Growth Dan I am still holding $DOV and down 2.5%. Was going to hold on until volatility has passed. Lowered my stop so as not to be shaken out on another whipsaw move in day. Is that a bad play?
  • DAN: @Ottawagreg $COHR $OLED $YY $BLD $ESNT $GGG $WUBA $WB $PRAH $KMT $GDI $CBOE $DOV #Growth No, I think you're ok, Ottawagreg. DOV is definitely weak and below the 50-day moving average. I wouldn't buy it here...but if I owned it, I wouldn't sell it here. Looks to me as if Tuesday's intraday low is solid. I would not keep a stop higher than $95.68 (the last low). But I wouldn't hold it if it starts falling to new lows. That would be just hoping for the stock to turn around. And we don't do "hope" here. 8-) Dan

  • Forexpro: Re: $DOV Good Evening, Friends, Reading material has been accumulating, and I'm trying to catch up this evening. This stock was mentioned in a piece on institutional flows. It wasn't the only stock from the Industrials sector that was noted in the article, but the chart looks somewhat stronger than most (apart from $SWK) and, a priority for me, it has a reasonable dividend yield, currently 2.72 percent. The fundamentals look okay, at least insofar as the financials go; free cash flow is nicely positive, and the dividend payout ratio only amounts to 28.8 percent. Less encouragingly, the stock has underperformed the $SPX for the past two years. Still, I'm adding it to my watch list; sometimes ugly ducklings turn into nicely profitable swans, and this one arguably isn't so much ugly as it is malnourished: http://schrts.co/LU6MMQ Have a great evening!

I wouldn't buy anything now but I've added these to my list of stocks I might want to buy. http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=DOV&p=W&yr=3&mn=0&dy=0&id=p21065904211 http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=DHR&p=W&yr=3&mn=0&dy=0&id=p78193407340
  • slowtime: $DOV - $DHR - emi. These are weekly charts. Pls update to daily and you will see that both have dropped below the 200 MA. Not so good looking after all.
  • papharm: $DOV ---Volatilty #Squeeze ---closed above upper BB on 3 x volume. All Time High. This happened on a day that the market was down! I'm buying on strength monday am.
  • patricia_ann: TXT: I bought $TXT on the day it broke out. I was too late for DOV. I looked at the 3 year weekly charts. $DOV is at or above resistance which may mean there will be very few sellers wanting their money back. $TXT is far from the 3 year high around 70. I own $TXT so I hope this means there is more upside. Take your pick. I don't know anything about the fundamentals. Good Luck.
  • joanie: $TXT - @cabkgs, $DOV has been moving up nicely on the weekly chart since last summer. Nothing wrong with it, and if you were in it recently, then you enjoyed a nice pop. This is a strong stock. $TXT has been virtually consolidating since last summer. It's been in a #squeeze and is only just beginning its move up. I'd rather be in at the beginning where there's likely more room for upside, than in a stock that's been moving up steadily for a prolonged period of time. The latter is the one that's more likely to pullback, and therefore carries more risk of downside without anything being wrong.
  • Gambler: $DOV -- 3 day rule. I would point out rule #10 "Know why you are breaking any of the above 9 rules". :-) Buying on a breakout from a #squeeze sometimes justifies breaking the 3 day rule. In this case, $DOV was in the tightest #squeeze of the last 11 months and seems to have very good support at the convergence of 50 and 200 day EMA. I took my initial position 3 days ago near support. We could see 36.75 if this works out. If it runs by that level with volume ???
  • Gambler: $DOV is in a tight #squeeze and trying to break out to the upside today. Worth a look.
