  • ke187: $BGS It has been years since I posted anything, more of a watcher than poster. I did want to share this with one with you. It is up about 12% today and had been even higher. I have not seen any news that would explain why. I took a starter position in this last week, wish I had more.
  • joelsg1: @ke187 $BGS 25% short interest, dividend concern. Mini squeeze few months ago, hope for repeat.
  • jr3345: @joelsg1 $BGS @ke187 -originally bought this stock as part of my #yieldhog collection. Sold it for 44. Looks like history is repeating itself. currently no position.

  • Forexpro: Re: $BLL, $BGS

    Hi, Friends,

You know, they don't all work as well as I'd like. I'd prefer to just keep pointing at $RCII, but I've also owned bits and bobs in $BLL and $BGS since the summer. Both were, more or less explicitly, bets on a renewed Cov ...
  • Forexpro: @CraigReynolds $BLL Thanks, CraigReynolds, Great approach, and I'm glad that it's been working for you. I simply have other assets that I think have brighter prospects, and I found myself looking at the charts last night - this is something I learned from Dan - and asking myself "If this was a prospective new entry, would it be a 'buy' here? I'm afraid that the answer was "No" for $BLL and $BGS. They've both been underperforming $SPY in recent days, and I much prefer stocks that are doing better than the index. Here's hoping that each and every one of your trades is outperforming; all the best!
  • CraigReynolds: @Forexpro $BLL $BGS $SPY The longer I'm in the Forum, there are so many different processes that work for some and not others. My majority of trades are income processes. I get in trouble when I follow the gun slings in Forum, but they seem to win and I get jealous, then trouble starts for me. I wish I understood the dollar movement like you.
  • Forexpro: @CraigReynolds $BLL $BGS $SPY

    Hey, CraigReynolds,

I'm inclined to maintain a degree of skepticism concerning the triumphs reported in the Forum. There are a few people who are pretty good about noting when they're in, and out, and if someone repor ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $BGS Hi, Friends, As noted earlier today, I exited this ticker, largely because it was underperforming the $SPX. My sense is that it has been trailing the $SPX because the second wave of closures, etc. in response to continued Covid infections didn't have as much impact as the first - no desperate queues of people lining up for "personal paper products", etc. - and the company makes and sells grocery items that are designed for hoarding. Earnings missed, and the stock is down to 28.28 after hours following a 30.40 close. For once, at least, I saved some money by lacking patience. Have a great evening; all the best!
  • jr3345: @pilotski - last Feb/Mar all #Yieldhog stocks got killed. Following the teachings here, I was stopped out of all #yieldhog positions. When market started to recover I bought $CSWC, $TPTC, $T & $BGS. I have added as market moved up & dividends were maintained. Recently sold $BGS as it was a short squeeze play & stock doubled. Others have posted under #Yieldhog. Reviewing those posts you can generate a list. Hope that helps
  • joelsg1: $BGS Managed to get Schwab to sell half my calls, so now holding remaining half with 'house money'.
  • jr3345: $BGS - Sold remaining shares @ 36 as all short squeeze stocks are taking the elevator down.
  • jr3345: $BGS - another short squeeze play. Takes 24 days to cover. Long stock, originally for the div. Will watch & sell in scales.
  • jr3345: $BGS - took advantage of the short squeeze mania & sold half @44.50. Fun when you are on the long side of these trades
  • joelsg1: $BGS Working since my post yesterday, on the most heavily shorted list, and a decent business. IMO, don't be too quick to close these anti-short movers, when trading platforms come back to working, buying will as well, and that's when one might start scaling out.
  • jr3345: @mradams0621 $KR - $BGS also moving
  • joelsg1: $BGS Bought Feb. 37.50 calls, but I'll be out by Friday. Why? I think the algos are buying everything with a substantial short interest, using internet trolls as a signal and as cover. This one has over 35% short interest. But, almost 6% annualized divi paid to shareholders of record as of this weekend; hence, out before that. Cheap enough to play this particular game.
  • Bsielingtx: @joelsg1 $BGS Hi there- Not seeing it going Ex-Dividend until 3/29/21
  • joelsg1: @Bsielingtx $BGS You right re ex date which was December 30, but of record date Sunday I believe. Nope, then I can hold longer if I want; fine, since I have until 2/19 on option. Looking at wrong stock page, sorry for incorrect statement, but premise same.
  • joelsg1: $BGS Those 37.50 calls working, closed itm, but let's see if the shorts manipulators move on down the food chain (pun intended).
  • elihu: $BGS Does anyone know what's going on with BGS?
  • jr3345: @elihu $BGS - I could not find any news. In from the low 20's, thanks @Forexpro. Originally bought for the dividend. Today it looks like a tech stock
  • jr3345: @elihu $BGS $KR also up, no news either
  • Forexpro: @jr3345 $BGS Hey, Jr3345, Here's hoping that 2021 is off to a great start for you. I can't find anything other than speculation as to possible "short covering", which is always conceivable. My primary source for fundies indicates that the most recent report shows 51.2 percent short interest, which could be enough to get a rally going. The company remains pretty leveraged and I've consequently been concerned about rates moving higher, but obviously so far, so good. I did sell a few shares today, as the move seemed like a gift. Here's hoping that cash flow suffices to cover both interest payments and the dividend; all the best!

  • heyjack: $bgs got mentioned a couple times last month. bounced (up) off 26 in Sep and Nov, now 28.72 up 4% today, moved above the 50 day
  • jr3345: @mepcc1 #yieldhogs -- agreed. Stopped out of all those positions back early Mar. Been building positions in $TCPC, $CSWC & $T. Also added $BGS, a @Forexpro recommendation @ 9% yield
  • Forexpro: @jr3345 $TCPC $CSWC $T $BGS #yieldhogs

    Hi, Jr3345,

I'd suggest some caution now with $BGS, as it isn't really a yield hog; it's a purveyor of canned and frozen goods that also offers a high dividend, and it has been more of a COVID play. If the ma ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $BGS Hi, Friends, I was out of this at 23.88, and was taken aback by the big dump on Jun 11. I subsequently reentered at 23.59 (after the inside vertical bar on Jun 12 was taken out to the upside). It's been reasonably smooth sailing since, and the dividend yield remains north of 6 percent. It's the subject of a highly favorable piece in WSJ's "Heard on the Street", out now via e-mail. It will appear in the print WSJ tomorrow. Cream of Wheat! McCann's Irish Oatmeal! Green Giant veggies! "Buy what you know", as Peter Lynch used to say. :-) This isn't the most heavily traded of stocks (938k today), so I'll be interested to see if the story has any observable impact. All the best!
  • mopick: $BGS, new all-time high, yield, still over 6%.
  • phgruver: @mopick $BGS Packaged foods has been out of favor since mid 2016, and I have no idea why. Several of these, however seem to have bottomed, back in March, and are beginning to work their way higher. $BGS has, over the years, acquired a number of iconic brands, and dominates shore shelf space in several categories. You might also look at $CPB and $KHC. I'm a long term holder of $BGS. It's nice to see it profitable again.
  • mopick: @phgruver $BGS $CPB $KHC, agreed! I did own $KHC for a brief stint, however, sold it, as one position in this space for me is enough, plus, I never especially cared for anything made by Kraft.
  • jr3345: $BGS Originally bought stock when I was rebuilding my dividend portfolio. Stock keeps going up. Added
  • sgr606: $BGS has been mentioned before. It has been a steady dividend payer over the years with occasional increases. It has come off the recent low and is in a volatility squeeze. Don't know about fundies but chart looks pretty good. with a >7% dividend.as a bonus. Anyone have anything to add?
  • shoredriver: @sgr606 $BGS ...sell monthly calls.....returns of high digits plus some cap appreciation......been long that and $KHC in ballast portion of portfolio for some time.......
  • Cokeman1959: @sgr606 $BGS agree, added to this today. It didn’t get hurt during yesterday’s EOD flush, and bounced today off the 8 day, with the 20 day close by. Seems like a steady Eddie, and not a rocket ship. Earnings coming upend of month.
  • mopick: @sgr606 $BGS, I've owned this for some time with really good results. That said, this company in the food space compared to it's competitors like $KHC is highly leveraged. Debt-Equity ratio of 2.5 vs $KHC @ 0.62. I'd probably go with $KHC at this point.
  • sgr606: @mopick - thx for that info. Maybe small position in $BGS and larger position in $KHC. I have an account I want to invest in all div payers. So far, I have $T, $BX, $PFE and $ABBV, I have room for about 4 more.
  • shoredriver: $BGS....up nicely today...almost 8% yield.....large call buying 7/17 27.50's......steady eddie...
  • mopick: $BGS, down a whopping 16%! Had the misfortune of getting a downgrade on top of this market debacle. Target price, $27.
  • teacher5: @mopick $BGS Ouch! Ugly chart!
  • Forexpro: @teacher5 $BGS

    Hi, Teacher5,

Rough day for ol' $BGS, without a doubt. I exited too early (23.88) a while back, as noted here at the time, but the stock is now down to just about where it could be bought. I'm not going to touch it today, as there's ...
  • Cokeman1959: $BGS Yesterday made a move to its highest point since Jan ‘19, now pulling back, may add to a core position if pullback holds and bounces. Nice divvy no earnings for a while.
  • Cokeman1959: $BGS Looking to add from lower levels now that it’s broken above previous highs. Nice divvy as well.
  • Sher: This has been fun, but taking profits on several large front month call positions... Many were put on yesterday and I am more than happy with the gains: $BYD, $CTL, $ING, $NTAP, $QCOM, $SU and $VIAC. Took profits on $ARNC, $BGS, $GE, $LEVI, $RDFN, $SAVE, $WORK and $ZS earlier in the week. Still long $AZN, $CNC, $DHI, $INSG, $NET, $NLY, $NRZ, $SDGR, $TECK, $TAP and $X. • Forexpro: Re: $BGS

    Hi, Friends,

So, what do I know? Rhetorical question; "not much, if anything" is the obvious answer. A recent example; I exited $BGS at 23.88, as I recall, after purchasing it six days earlier at 22.17. Not a bad trade, but I saw ...
  • Forexpro: @Bwhitty Hi, Bwhitty, I lightened up on some stuff yesterday, e.g. exiting $BGS, but the market has been pricing in "bad Karma with China" for at least a couple of days now. I'm not expecting anything that will spark a rally, but if whatever comes out is "no worse than expected" it might be neutral to slightly positive in terms of market action. What people seem to be afraid of is an abrogation of the trade agreement, which as I recall is something that we rallied on after it was passed, way back when. Raising stops seems like a prudent step to me. Too much randomness ... Best of luck to you!
  • Danzguy: @Forexpro $BGS Backed out of $BGS.... didn't know that you took the plunge! I've been watching and waiting for an entry that I like. Maybe I'm too particular? You, my Friend, would be one of those benchmarks, or standards, which I aspire to. Have a great weekend!

    Hi, Friends,

I finally stuck a toe into this thing last Friday. My average price was 22.17; memory is a tricky (and evidently optimistic) thing, and I thought that I was in a dime lower, but that isn't what the confirmations say. My intent ...
  • Forexpro: Re: $BGS Hi, Friends, Mr. Cramer reportedly had some discouraging words re: $BGS over the weekend. "Tired brands". A less pejorative term would be "familiar". Perhaps "comforting". With that said, ain't gonna be any Cream of Wheat in my house; familiarity does sometimes breed contempt, even at several decades' distance. Green Giant? Sure, wave the big guy in. In any case, given the macro environment, the stock doesn't seem to care, although you'll note on the accompanying chart that it isn't highly correlated with the $SPX, at present. I finally took the plunge - more of an itty-bitty toe insertion - on Friday at 22.06, and I'm still prepared to be more enthused around 21.55, or so. We'll see. Hope your day is going well; all the best!
  • mopick: @Forexpro $BGS $SPX, funny, he loved it a few weeks back. The guy constantly contradicts himself. Long & thriving.
  • Cokeman1959: @Forexpro $BGS $SPX im on the fence about $BGS. I like that it appears to be bouncing off the 20 day, but I guess I see it as a slow mover, and that’s my hesitation. I also don’t like buying on big ip days in general.
  • Forexpro: @Cokeman1959 $BGS $SPX

    Thanks, Cokeman1959,

I ended up taking a starter about half a buck higher than I wanted. Although the stock is up today, you'll note that it is barely correlated with the $SPX, so presumably they aren't moving higher in tand ...
  • Margi1983: @Forexpro $BGS It is forming a nice base at 24 to 25.70. I have a limit buy at 1 penny above the pivot point of 24.04. May not be the best entry, but with a 8% divi and decent fundamentals, it may work out. All the best to my fellow Boston based trader
  • Forexpro: @Margi1983 $BGS Thanks, Margi1983, I agree, and I'm still having a tough time getting in. The level where I'd like to buy is around 21.55, but I may just close my eyes and take a few shares. Perhaps I need to be long at least a nominal amount in order to coax it lower. Here's hoping that you're well, thriving, and enjoying what may be the first real week of spring (fingers crossed). All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $BGS Good Morning, Friends, I've been trying to get into this one; from SeekingAlpha: "Piper Sandler hikes B&G Foods to an Overweight rating on its view the sustainable retail lift adds upside potential to estimates." The analyst provides a price target of 28. Currently bid 24.04 pre-open. Closed on Friday at 20.97. Sigh. We get Chair Powell at 9 EDT this morning speaking via a Peterson Institute webcast. Best of luck today!
  • Danzguy: @forexpro Did you stake your claim in $BGS? I will guess that you did not and the train appears to be pulling out of the station, my Friend. Perhaps it will backup to pick us up....? Good find, Cheers!
  • Forexpro: @Danzguy $BGS Hey, Danzguy, No guts, no glory; I did stick in an order about a buck below the opening price yesterday, and of course whiffed badly. Not going to chase, even on small, but I'm raising my initial bid (currently at 21.25) to accurately reflect the 38.2 percent retracement level on the Fibs, give or take. Still looking to buy the first pullback, but it's going to be higher than I was thinking/hoping on Sunday. Other stuff is working, but it's still frustrating. Here's hoping that all is going well for you; cheers!
  • mopick: $BGS, new high, stock on an absolute tear, not bad, especially for a food stock. Can't overlook the 9% yield either!
  • CraigReynolds: $BGS breaking out
  • Forexpro: @mopick $BGS $SPX Thanks, Mopick, Looking a couple percent better still this morning. I haven't managed to get any in, as yet. Working on it. Hope all is going well at your end; cheers!
  • Margi1983: @CraigReynolds $BGS What a move since early March. Do we think the 9 % dividend is really going to hold up in this COVID-19 world?
  • CraigReynolds: @Margi1983 $BGS FYI Barron's this past weekend had a good write-up about company I remember.
  • Forexpro: ...
Hope your week is off to a great start; I do wish that I had taken a careful look at $BGS on Friday rather than Sunday, as it's getting tougher to buy (but more pleasant to own).

    All the best!
