  • Docoof: I didn’t post this over the weekend b/c of second thoughts on the weekly chart. But it could play out successfully and it can’t hurt to post a trade idea: $KHC 6-month high on 7/13 = 39.44. The horizontal resistance line drawn from here is where $KHC failed on 8/11 (39.33), 8/23 (39.01), 10/28 (39.05), 11/2 (39.04), 11/22 (39.06) and on Friday (39.18). $KHC is in an Industry Group where its peers have recently made, or are still making, new highs: $GIS, $CAG, $LW, $PEP, $LANC, $POST, $SJM, $CPB, $TWNK, and others. $KHC is right above all its MAs, but they are not in order. I assume there’s some reason why its underperforming, but it seems worth watching for a high volume move above 39.50. Closed Friday at 38.90. $KHC’s 1-yr high = 44.87.
  • Docoof: @Kime $SJM $TWNK $CPB $PEP $K $GIS $POST $CAG My pleasure. (But a lot closer to a beginner than to an expert.)
  • Docoof: @Kime This kind of info is helpful in that it points to Industry Groups where one can perhaps find stocks with strong charts. For example, the companies that make/sell Jelly and Jams ($SJM), Twinkies ($TWNK), Campbell’s Soups ($CPB), Lay’s potato chips and Mountain Dew ($PEP), Corn Flakes ($K), Cheerios ($GIS), Raisin Bran ($POST) — these all made new highs on Friday and they’re all in the same Industry Group: Food-Packaged. This group is ranked 29 (out of 197) and maybe there’s something else in it that looks promising such as $CAG. $CAG makes Slim Jims, Orville Redenbacher popcorn, Vlassic pickles, etc. $CAG’s hod on Friday was 36.82, just short of its 4/21 1-yr high of 36.97. Maybe it’s ready to start making new highs. It’s on my watch list.
  • Kime: @Docoof $SJM $TWNK $CPB $PEP $K $GIS $POST $CAG Thank you for your time and expertise.

  • woodman: $XLP is where all the (a-hem) "excitement" is today. That's to say, it's green in a sea of red (other than bond funds). The following stocks within XLP are up 2% or more (or at least were when I looked a little while ago: $CPB $SJM $CLX $CHD $GIS $K $KMB $PM $KHC $WMT $CAG. ($TSN honorable mention.)
  • lanedra: @woodman $XLP $CPB $SJM $CLX $CHD $GIS $K $KMB $PM $KHC $WMT $CAG $TSN With regard to XLP, would you dare "nibble" in this overall market bloodbath?
  • woodman: @lanedra $XLP $CPB $SJM $CLX $CHD $GIS $K $KMB $PM $KHC $WMT $CAG $TSN - I'm not hungry. I'm essentially fully in cash and standing out of the way, except for short duration 3x ETF trades. That said, if you have strong hunger pangs, be sure to use stops/position size to protect. But I trust nothing here. These are major support levels that are failing. There will be sudden rebounds, but cash suits me right now.
  • traderbren: #Penguins - interesting view that analysts have on the impact of inflation - $CPB received a downgrade based on inflation worries, while another analyst upgrades $NAPA based on minimal exposure to inflation. So, as inflation spikes, people will likely stop eating (drinking) soup, but will consume more vino. ;-) Gotta love the BS these Penguins publish and hence why I don't hold stock in what they publish. • phgruver: @mopick $BGS Packaged foods has been out of favor since mid 2016, and I have no idea why. Several of these, however seem to have bottomed, back in March, and are beginning to work their way higher. $BGS has, over the years, acquired a number of iconic brands, and dominates shore shelf space in several categories. You might also look at $CPB and $KHC. I'm a long term holder of $BGS. It's nice to see it profitable again.
  • mopick: @phgruver $BGS $CPB $KHC, agreed! I did own $KHC for a brief stint, however, sold it, as one position in this space for me is enough, plus, I never especially cared for anything made by Kraft.
  • scottrades: $CPB trying to come out of a squeeze. Low volume right now. Not a fast mover.

  • phgruver: @CraigReynolds $BGS That stock has been an absolute dog! It peaked back in late July 2016, at $52.84, and has declined steadily ever since. It is now worth only 1/3 of what it was, in 2016, and nothing has really changed. I did hold it, for a long time, and it does pay a decent dividend, but I got tired of watching my capital erode. $KHC belongs in the same boat, and $CPB has traded all over the place. $MDLZ has done the best, of the packaged foods stocks, but it traded sideways for 3.5 years, before taking off at the beginning of 2019.
  • CraigReynolds: @phgruver $BGS $KHC $CPB $MDLZ NP only mentioned because of a forum question. Ag stocks should do okay in this environment. The person recommending one of the financial networks gave it a high buy rating. I have those you mentioned on my watch list. I'm not in any stocks in that sector now. I was in $CPB at the $47 level, sold out last week for a small gain. Thanks.
  • traderbren: #Soup -- for those looking to warm up in the NE, maybe a little $CPB is the order of the day...looking constructive here with a move above the 20 dma, plus the ADX has crossed positive.

  • champ: @scottrades $SSO $QLD $UBER $LSCC $UCTT $CWEN $SMG $PFSI $LW $TRMB $YETI $CPB $VZ #Swing #Squeeze #Squeeze --- Yes, always be diligent, but I'm hoping to add on Day-Trades next week, to my core $SSO position and other ETF's, now that Quadruple-Witching-risk, is now out of the way. .....My guess is, this Huge expiration day, that-risk exposer today, was holding investors back today...big-time....but traders will see what happens next week....however this move today was positive, IMO.
  • phgruver: @Cokeman1959 $BGS I got tired of watching it underperform, and dumped it for a loss. I admit, I just don't understand why, but the market has been discounting packaged foods for years. Take a look at $CPB and $KHC as well. In the case of $BGS, they market dozens of iconic brands, have a steady and predictable revenue stream and have been increasing their dividend on a regular basis. The result? Since the high in July 2016, they have lost 67% of their value. The stock has a ridiculously low P/E of 6.51x (normal runs 20x to 25x) and the dividend comes in at 10.98%. It just doesn't make sense to me, but, institutional investors have let it slide, even though they own 90% of the stock. At some point, it will turn around, but I got tired of waiting, and I'm a pretty patient investor....

  • gwenzee: @AlexH $CPB Bought on 10/21 when it broke out of Pop Out of the Box pattern. It went up a little and then dove but not far enough to trigger my stop. Now it is rising like the Phoenix today.
  • Bridget: $CPB has gotten a nice pullback into the lower BB and 50dMA, giving you a low risk entry.

  • gwenzee: @Champ $CPB Yesterday broke out of "box." Today looks like it wants to test the area around $46.80 before make a decision. Glad I waited on this one.
  • champ: @gwenzee $CPB --- I guess I should watch, so I can add-to, this rainy/snowy-day stock, before it takes-off, weather is on the way. Let us know, after you make you're put, on how this lines-up, the wind is blowing a little today, I have sand in my eyes, hard to see in your area. I'm not used to playing in these sandstorms.
  • gwenzee: @champ $CPB $CSII Hard to think of cold weather foods when the temp is pushing 100 in the next couple of days. Still waiting for the end of summer. Good one right now is CSII.....the plaque roto rooter. Guggenheim started coverage yesterday with a "Buy" and a PT of $58. Broke out of downtrend and wedge formation yesterday. EPS on 10/29. I'll be holding.

  • Bridget: $CPB nice breakout today. Mentioned this one yesterday.

  • CraigReynolds: @Bridget $CPB Is this a BO from handle in the C&H.
  • champ: @CraigReynolds $CPB --- This stock had an upgrade in the pre-market this morning...and my guess is, it is because winter is on the way.....soup and winter go together.
  • gwenzee: @champ $CPB Broke out of Pop Out Of The Box pattern.
  • champ: @gwenzee $CPB --- Yes, really started on 10/15, market analyst watch everything also for timing, on their upgrades. They also need to be credible and they need to continue to be correct or they would be out of work, if they weren't.
  • gwenzee: @CraigReynolds $CPB Obviously not Bridget. Don't know where you might be seeing a C & H pattern. CPB has been in a tight consolidation for awhile and broke out of a Pop Out Of The Box pattern today. Easy pattern to recognize and easy to see where stop should be. Try it, you'll like it.
  • champ: @gwenzee $CPB @ $48.30 --- Yes, why not, this stock is still at entry, yesterday would have been better but entry is still climbing, this looks like a small spec-swing. An upgrade off of a recent low, with market-timing, this sure now looks like stock timing and the chart works. I also have a spec-swing position.
  • gwenzee: @champ $CPB This has been up 9 out of the last 10 months. I'm a position trader, not a swing-trader. Nice chart.
  • gwenzee: @CraigReynolds $CPB Don't understand what you are trying to say. Please elaborate. Are you talking about that C & H that didn't exist?
  • champ: @gwenzee $CPB --- Nice but I already knew, that you are a great stock-picker. You know your soups, thats for sure and I bet you're a great putter and I bet I'm right about that also.
  • CraigReynolds: @gwenzee $CPB When Bridget posted about break out, I thought I looked at $CPB chart (But must have pulled up a different chart) thinking it looked like a cup/handle. Have no idea what I was looking at. I said my worse enemy sometimes is myself. Thanks.
  • gwenzee: @champ $CPB Thank you for the compliments. Absolutely loved golf...unfortunately the body is going through a downtrend. Waiting for it to bottom out and start repairing itself. Stock you might want to watch....not to buy here as it has to prove itself....but look at $HOME. It's on my list.
  • baronp0329: @CraigReynolds $CPB Hi @gwenzee: think I saw a @bRobert post this morning that $CPB has Cup&Handle - like formation on a Weekly chart. Long CPB stocks around $42-43 in a 2 of my Long term accounts from early August. Today, Long Nov15 48 Calls in 1 of my Trading Accounts.
  • gwenzee: @baronp0329 $CPB I see what you're talking about on the weekly. Also did you note that it is at a prior support level that it was at a year ago???
  • CraigReynolds: @baronp0329 $CPB Yes, you understand me better than I do. Had 3 year weekly chart up.
  • champ: @CraigReynolds $CPB --- If you looked at the 3-year chart, then you can clearly see direction, past and present. This is a hold and just wait for the next upgrade, cold weather is on the way...but always look all around, when you are driving.
  • baronp0329: @gwenzee $CPB I actually did not make the CPB trades in my Long term accounts and Funds, it was done by my Money Managers and they email me Daily updates . But I do see the support you are referring too. I made the CPB Nov options trade in my Trading accounts based on chart and Bridget's and SMM posts. BTW, did you watch the USC v Notre Dame game last week? SC should've and could've won if they played first half like they did the second half. Had a some friends that flew to South Bend for the game. Hope all is well with you. Good luck with your trades.
  • CraigReynolds: @champ $CPB I always start with distant and work closer. Yes, you see many things and keeps you focused on objective. Easier for stops on LT positions for me, not day/swing trades.
