- debeers: $JDST/$DUST- Gold down today as retail not as bad as feared, Europe gold down, and the Congress likely to keep the government running. i know you might think its a dumb "tell" but the nail salons and hair salons now open in northern Cali. Might have had a decent low already. Walmart tells us that they've hired 20,000 so far for the holidays. Trust me: they are not hiring folks to clean their restrooms. Again-Just Don't sell this or the ashes to ashes-dust to dust trade should work today in my opinion.

I made my way through the usual stuff, and didn't find too much of interest. We do have some data at 9:45 EDT; from WSJ.com:

We already know what has happened to the hospitality biz but here's the secret sauce: lentamente a lentamente the nurses are opting out of washing their own unis: Cintas does a better job to begin with and after a 14 hour day, its the last thing any one wants to do is a wash. They are also the cleaning co of choice for the firemen (if the clothes aren't too badly burned). $JDST- NOW you can see why its worth it to scope out gold at 2 am. LOL

- mulligan: @geebo $NUGT $DUST $JNUG $JDST $GUSH $DRIP has to due with market disruption risk and extreme impact of volatility on markets and the funds ability to sell securities and obtain short exposure to securities. It's above my pay grade to understand all of the reasons. If you go to Direxion's website there is a paragraph labeled "market disruption risk" that provides a narrative of the issues. Hope that helps.

- debeers: @dpierce3326 $JDST $NUGT --- One Question-Do you see inflation or recession? I see recession. Nevertheless, it is a pure DAY TRADE only. The consumer is 80% of the GDP. Other than a very small handful of companies, all of which you can study up on yourself, the consumer discretionary sector is in the toilet. Almost forgot----in my opinion.

The goal is to try not to "blow up" so you can learn and live to trade another day. Reading and hearing what is said is different than really listening and internalizing what has been said. Thinking optimistically for you, I agree with Dan's analysis that some kind of bottom might be starting to form (Hopefully and at least short term). If so and we get a good bear market bounce which I'd have to think would be due for at some point soon (again, could be wrong), but would think after all the insane selling, then you have a decent chance to sell into some strength and recover. I'd also agree the Thursday low is your line in the sand if things do go further south again.

- debeers: $JDST-I see no inflation to speak of and certainly no exuberance. Gold rises on fear and/or inflation. Do you see any irrational exuberance which tops a market. Typically when there is a ton of money on the sidelines, contrary to what Dr. Doom, who has been right once in his life says, we don''t have a huge pullback. The lack of the gold advance tells me this and so does the price action.

- gistar: Missed $CLVS because I put in a limit that was just a tad too low... in several others. Am in $JNUG because it is a bit MORE bouncy than NUGT [junior miners] and from looking at the graph on Monday got out as it was falling then bought back and added near the bottom so it was a very good day... $JNUG and friends have short term made some higher lows after a rounded bottom and I have felt that for some reason gold was artificially low... made a small profit on the inverse $JDST on the way down... of course would do better SHORTING the opposite side both ways but brokers charge a lot to 'borrow' a stock that is a synthetic so can create as many shares as they want out of this air.... reminds me of the Fed...LOL... so really should cost nothing to short...
- stevef214: @gistar $CLVS $JNUG $JDST same happened to me with $CLVS. I realized that it needed to be a market order later on in the day but hard to tell at the time. As @Dan said this type o move you need to trade with a chainsaw rather than a scalpel. I did get in later on and I am still holding hoping for a little more today to make the trade worth it.

1. If the stock is really really liquid, then you know there are two sides of the market. You could buy with confidence that t ... - stevef214: @DAN $CLVS $JNUG $JDST @DAN yeah later in the day I still used a limit order because the stock was not moving as fast. But I do get what you mean about how to trade the fast movers at the open. Using limit orders has kept me out of a number of "59 minute" like trades that were going on in the forum because once I missed it I felt like I was chasing it. Still a little difficult to know when to use the chainsaw and when to use the scalpel. Maybe you can cover this some more.

Tuesday should be interesting - obviously I've taken the bear's side on the miners trade, same for gold. Just don't see a lasting uptrend in gold or the miners with a rising/strong $$$. I just don't think that the PRC has enough foreign currency reserves to continue propping up the yuan (?) at the expense of the dollar. Good move with the call write. I'll remember that strategy for future trades.

Exited $NUGT this morning as GLD, GDX and GDXJ all reversed. Entered $DUST and $JDST after exiting $NUGT -- looks like I was late to that party and giving up some profit. Will sell unless current move up establishes a new daily high.

I trade in and out of this and $JNUG $GDXJ and $GDX. (And $DUST $JDST etc) All super volatile/leveraged- and you must follow spot gold, not the derivative, to get a better sense of the price action. And PRICE is what is to be followed.

The index tracks the performance of Small and mid capitalization companies in the global gold and silver mining industry. The fund is non-diversified.
