  • scottrades: $XLB Close to a weekly breakout.

  • phgruver: One of my biggest gainers, today, is $LOW, up over $7 (3.16%). This got me to looking at $HD, which is up a similar amount, and $XLB (materials) and $XHB (home builders). I think we are beginning to price in interest rate cuts in the near future.....

  • DrScience: #Markets $QQQ has moved back above VWAP (which is good), but $SPY is approaching VWAP slo-o-o-ly. This bodes less well for a move through without some resistance. Breadth is still 2:1 negative, but the $VIX has fallen to a new low and $TICKs have turned bullish as sectors have improved greatly with only $XLV, $XLB and $XLRE down more than 1/2% since the open.
  • DrScience: #Markets $SPY very mixed to start the week. A/D line is positive, but breadth is lackluster. The 4080 level in $SPX is again where the battle line is drawn. Early strength is threatening to turn back lower as heavyweight sectors $XLK and $XLV are dragging against lightweight sector strength in $XLB $XLE and $XLI.

The sectors I am focusing in on long are $XLB, $XLE, $XLI, $XLP, $XLV, $XME and $ITB. The market has lost the $XLF, $XRT, $XLK,$SMH and certainly the FANG stocks. Months ago we were discussing how in a bearish market the bears hunt for the weakest ...

The metals closed above the 50 day EMA yesterday after testing monthly support so there is some potential here as well. I am watching $FCX here as it is forming a high base. The $XLB closed above the 50 day EMA and I am watching $FCX, $DOW and $NU ...

The ETF's are deteriorating as well. The market has already lost the $XLE although yesterday it seemed to put in a fight. Maybe it will build a base here and be an opportunity going forward. The $XLP, $XLV, $XLB, $XLU, $XME, and $TAN are all coming ...

So what do we do? A few of the leading ETF's have had substantial damage to their charts. $XLE,$XLF and $XLV all have been under pressure. The $XLB,$XLI,$TAN and $XLP are holding up well and I am looking at stocks in those sectors. I continue to se ...
  • Jazman0013: @Rockstar $SPY $VIX $XLE $XLF $XLV $XLB $XLI $TAN $XLP most the best trades were not taking them. The few winners were won by exiting with profit in hand and not overstaying. • Rockstar: @Jazman0013 $SPY $VIX $XLE $XLF $XLV $XLB $XLI $TAN $XLP You are correct. Somebody bought at the highs, and many are trapped. I have been taken to the woodshed too many times. I am not interested in going there again
  • Amisure: @Rockstar $SPY $VIX $XLE $XLF $XLV $XLB $XLI $TAN $XLP --Just a constructive thought----instead of calling officials clowns and incompetent as I see here so often------I'd rather see comments as to what one would do ---- and not with hindsight but with forward thinking. Please do not take offense.
  • Rockstar: @Amisure $SPY $VIX $XLE $XLF $XLV $XLB $XLI $TAN $XLP No offense taken. Just look at their record. They have always reacted too late (both ways). I have been posting about the actions ever since i came on board. This is not in any way shape or form hindsight. Just go back and look at my posts about them and their actions. They are the one's that talked about "transitory inflation". I said when I first started that inflation was due to supply issues. It took them far too long to realize that and I am still not convinced they do.

The $XLE fell apart last week as /CL pulled back by almost 10% for the week. I am not looking at any longs in this sector right now. The $XBI closed below its averages so no longs here either. The $XLB closed below the 8EMA Friday but above the ...

  • maracom: All the $XLB base metals are looking the same. The 8,20, and 50 are clustering and some flags are forming and the 50 is shifting upwards, probably in preparation for an attempt at the 200. I've started small positions in $FCX, $AA, and I'll probably also start $CLF and see which one turns into a swing up to the 200 first (or which one falls out of bed first). See $CLF for example
  • bla00109: $XOP below 200d MA $XLB way below averages and still in freefall $DBC ditto -- in free fall, next stop 200d MA ----Suggests that inflation projection might be overstated and @Rockstar probably correct in anticipating a tempering of QE and interest rate rising in the second half. • DrScience: #Markets $SPY An inside day and up was a nice start to today's trading but fell apart and hasn't recovered. The index tried to get some help and traded right up to VWAP before things broke down again just before the 2pm reversal period. While breadth on the NYSE and NASD both is positive, direction is non-existent, and negative TICKs are keeping the Bulls in check. All 11 sectors are down from the open, and while $XLB keeps trying to go positive, it's a lightweight in the broader market. Looks like another day trapped in last weeks' eleven-dollar range - 406.50ish to 417.50ish.

  • champ: $SPY....if we only #knew... how the Markets were going to close today..... ......COVID...is slowing way down...is the current market News, on this nice Market move...... >>>> Could take a look at the #Sector-Tracker...and the $XLB materials sector, is currently leading all the ETFs higher today....and we all know why that is.....it is because the price of Commodities...are climbing, see what all of the stocks in that group, are currently doing today...and there are a lot of Stock-targets in that group, to take a look at.
  • mopick: @champ $SPY $XLB #knew #Sector-Tracker, keep in mind the inflation figures come out this Friday. All eyes will be on this report.
  • woodman: @champ $SPY $XLB #knew #Sector-Tracker - $XME $XRT $SOXX $XLF are top performers today. But the charts of XRT and SOXX, overall, aren't so hot.
  • Viva_el_Vino: @mopick $SPY $XLB #knew #Sector-Tracker From https://www.bls.gov/cpi/ . "January 2022 CPI data are scheduled to be released on February 10, 2022, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time."
  • champ: @mopick $SPY $XLB #knew #Sector-Tracker.....Yes sir.... the Daily Economic reports matter and I look at all of them, ahead of those reports and I pre-set-up off of them...however the only report on Friday that I see is Consumer Sentiment, the # is expect to be 67 and prior it was 67.2.........the CPI is on Thursday..... I look at all of those type of reports, a month ahead. Inflation works for certain sectors....but not for the over-all market or consumers. LOL
  • champ: @woodman $SPY $XLB $XME $XRT $SOXX $XLF #knew #Sector-Tracker --- Yes exactly and metals are inside the $XLB sector and so is lumber and many other commodities,...there is a lot going on inside the $XLB.
  • champ: @Viva_el_Vino $SPY $XLB #knew #Sector-Tracker.......Exactly......
  • woodman: @champ $SPY $XLB $XME $XRT $SOXX $XLF #knew #Sector-Tracker - Good point. I tend to drill down more narrowly, for example at $XME (metals and mining) or various TC2000 industry areas (more specific than broad sectors), such as #BuildingMaterials, etc. But broad sectors are good to start with to see what is working then you can drill down further.
  • champ: @woodman $SPY $XLB $XME $XRT $SOXX $XLF #knew #Sector-Tracker #BuildingMaterials...I'm watching those type of stocks....like $BLDR and others....however I have a #hand picked--List....that I watch.....and I'm working stocks in that sector...$XLB

Please pay no attention to the percentage numbers on the chart legends; they measure one bar relative to the one prior regardless of timeframe (in this case, just 3 minutes), an annoying StockCharts habit. Here's hoping that the session is treating you kindly; all the best!

Know when your companies report earnings. Worth noting: $XLE and $XLB had nice moves yesterday, but are backing and filling today. $XLI a bridesmaid, not quite ready for prime time. $XLU holding mid-term trend line. We're having some high winds, and downed power lines are causing issues. Had to fire up the ol' generator as Back-UPS drained. 🤪
