- bill52: @bigbartabs $GLD You bring up a good point and I've thought about that from a practicality stand point when people buy the physical gold. Good to have it but not sure how you'd end up spending it or as you mentioned, you better be ready to defend it. Gold coins might be more practical but if things ever got to that point, its going to be really bad in a lot of ways. Hope he has a lot of ammo for that 357.
- joelsg1: @bigbartabs $GLD Many decades ago when I was a young lawyer in Beverly Hills, my firm represented a guy in a criminal case accused of selling unregistered gasoline truck futures who paid us upfront in many kilo-sized gold bars worth over $100k at the time in a large suitcase without wheels. I was assigned task of lugging that case to the local assay office a few blocks away. That case was so heavy I could only lug it a few paces before changing hands, looking over my shoulder the whole way. He was convicted and served time. Now there's Bitcoin.

- StockMarketMentor: Note how the gold stocks are acting. $GLD is up almost 2% off the lows today. $KGC is up 5.5%. $NEM up 5%. $AEM up nearly 7%. Meanwhile, the major averages are still drifting lower with no real signs of exhaustion. I see some traders in the Trading Room grabbing some stocks that are rebounding, which is nice to see. But...as I said a while ago, this is likely to take a while to settle out. It's not all horrible. -Dan

I'm long $GLD that I know you say is working but I'm long June 280 calls. So my concern is that even if GLD keeps working, less momentum in GLD could kill the IV and cause me to have a loss even if GLD keeps working?
- DAN: @RichardinME $GLD If you still like the trade and want to keep those calls, you might consider selling some higher strike options against those calls. If you do that, then any IV drop will impact your short calls as well as your long calls. My rule for picking strikes for a short hedge like this is to ensure a profit on the trade if I'm called out. Example: If I paid $9 bucks for the June 280 calls, I can only sell the 290 calls. I can't sell the 285's because that would result in a loss if I'm called out. (You can also consider a bull put spread if you like the trend in gold. Looks to me like it's going to rest a bit here. Hope that helps, buddy! Dan

We don't have any news, we don't have heavy buying volume, and all major indexes are still in a downtrend. You should be building your watchlist of relative strength stocks or trading very small right now. We should get some short covering and potentially a technical bounce, but we'll need to see some Higher Highs and Higher lows develop. We don't have that yet. Watch for strength into the close on $SPY and $QQQ On my list: $GLD $AEM $WPM $BRK.B $HALO $BRO
