- sierramp: @woodman $GRMN Just ran this idea past my aviation expert. Of course Garmin has been the industry standard and innovator for a long time. A friend of ours has an aviation repair shop where he works on general aviation including Warbirds (high end) and is an approved vendor working with Northrop Grumman. He is one of the largest Garmin dealers in the west. He obviously knows what is in demand. I also like the fact that management owns 20% of the stock.

- quencher00: @scottrades $GRMN I am in from below. It has gained a lot of institutional support lately. Can see it in the volume. Earnings in a month too. It should be good. $PTON just acquired a wearables company! Wearables are gaining traction, a lot of other companies are likely to dive into the wearables market. I find it silly how much apple is advertising their cardiogram or whatever it is on their latest watch. Companies like $GRMN have had that features and MANY more features for years now. Maybe if $GRMN can make something more sleek like a fitbit, they would be more competitive. They have lots of free cash available so they can pursue what they like. I am optimistic, and their chart is showing it too.

- DAN: @debpatel $GRMN I like Garmin. Wearing one of their watches right now. The stock is running quite a bit and tough to buy right now because it's ripe for a pullback. If you're buying it now, I'd just suggest keeping a pretty tight leash on it. Hope this helps.

$GRMN - Tuna: $GRMN Around 4SD move to the upside on earnings. Doesn't appear to have a huge short interest, but it looks like around 50%-70% shares held by institutions and insiders (but haven't confirmed this as it conflicts with some figures from Morningstar). So, it could (i.e., it is not 100% certain) be popping from short covering. 7M shares short as of last report date (5.5% of gross float).

If you have to scratch that itch, just make very small trades and limit yourself to one trade each day, and it can only be in either the first or the last hour of the day. If you know you can only make one, you'll be very discriminating. And you may not find anything worth trading....which would not be a bad thing. 8-)
- infocus: @DAN $GRMN Once again, thanks. I watched for a while and decided not to "scratch". Haven't found anything compelling yet, and I have other things to do today. In the meantime, the Canadian Dollar is declining against the U.S. $ which is sort of good for me, living in Toronto and mostly having U.S. cash in my trading account. A couple of years ago the currencies were at Par and I bought U.S $'s with Can. $'s Did very well. If we ever see the same situation, I will repeat the exercise.
- DAN: @infocus $GRMN Nice job, infocus. I made the mistake several years ago of investing in a condo project in Toronto that I had to hold for about 4 years before I could get out of it. The property appreciated like crazy though. However, the appreciation was in Canadian dollars. And because of the strength of the US dollar, it wasn't a particularly great deal. I made money...but it was a rough trade. 25% of the profits went to Canada...and then I'm taxed again by the Feds and California here. So when it's all said and done, I'll have enough profit to buy a scone and a venti coffee at Starbucks. The condo was ultimately bought by a Chinese investor. So the one thing I can now say is that I have experience in complex international real estate and business deals. ;-)
