- phgruver: Good morning, y'all. It's moved into early Summer, around here. All the spring flowers are gone, and everything is lush and green. The temperatures are very pleasant, but afternoon showers will be the norm for the next week or so. Obviously, traders are liking the weekend news, but it remains to be seen if it holds. For now, utilities $XLU and healthcare $XLV are down, while finance $XLF is up biggly! All I can say, is, stay on your toes....
- Nepenthe: $XLF $FAS $QUBT I don't follow earnings earnestly, but it seems the big banks did relatively well, which led me to the $XLF (today jumped above its 50ma) which in turn led me yesterday to take a small position in $FAS. The XLF is above its 200ma as well. Another I'm interested in is $QUTM, which led me to $QUBT. Early, but it's up 7% today and perhaps on the verge of a BO. That's it. Cheers.

- Nepenthe: @bigbartabs $NDX By the way, isn't the elephant in the room upcoming earnings? Banks start reporting Friday, followed by tech at the end of the month. I have a small profitable position in $FAS which I'll hold over the first few days of bank earnings. Were it not for earnings, the $XLF looks poised to break out--BB's are less than 4%--but as we know, if they disappoint, it could go the other way. Just random speculation before the political fireworks in November. Cheers.
- bigbartabs: @Nepenthe $NDX $FAS $XLF ... I've got an XLF hi / lo range alarm... 45.89 / 45.34. If it hits the new high, I'll take a starter position in FAS... and see where it goes. The low is the 8dema... that's most often the best point to take a starter position, if it gets there.
- DrScience: @Nepenthe $XLF Note that, generally, for the S&P Sector ETF's, a 3% BB width is a nice, tight squeeze. In the case of $XLF, the current 3.13% squeeze translates into a $1.40 bottom to top range. I'd take a position on a breakout above today's high 45.86 (close enough to the 52-wk high at 45.88) or down around 44.11 (prior resistance from this past July) if first blush in bank earnings trigger a pullback.

And without soliciting your advice, that's exactly where I did take a position, either yesterday or day before or...well, a few bourbons ago. Plan goes that if it falls back to the 8, I'll add if it holds, with a stop below, and if it breaks above, then go even heavier. Ah, the best laid plans of mice and traders...cheers.

- StockMarketMentor: You won't get this until Monday, but RNA is in a pullback buy situation. IF the stock acts well on Monday, I'll suggest putting this on the active trade list. But for now, I'm just giving you a head's up on the potential trade. The Dow is very close to its all-time high, as is the S&P. The financials ($XLF) are at new highs. The Semis are hovering just below the 50-day moving average ($SMH), and $NVDA reports on Wednesday. So next week should be a real hoot!
