- kenb: Data center infrastructure provider Vertiv $VRT on Wednesday smashed analyst estimates for the second quarter and raised its full-year outlook. In premarket trading on the stock market today, Vertiv stock rose 3% to 147. Shares decisively cleared a messy 131.38 handle buy point last week and are now approaching the all-time high of 155.84 set on Jan. 24.

I already have positions in AI data center infrastructure equipment names that are doing well, $VRT $ALAB $ANET. As you are suggesting there is a need for consulting services to build these things, and recently found this one $WLDN running up the 8d, but haven't pulled the trigger (yet?) due to 50d average daily volume less than 300k, though it has been increasing. Perplexity says "options markets are currently predicting a move of approximately ±8.8% in Vertiv (VRT) shares in either direction following the Q2 2025 earnings report, which is scheduled for tomorrow, July 30, 2025." ChatGPT says ±8.4% (which also is its historical average). Gemini says approx 11.2%-12.3%. A Google Search Labs/AI Overview gives same as Perplexity's estimate.

- woodman: @ZMan2 $VRT - I got in a little ahead of you. I agree with you about VRT being a major player, but I'm playing it a little safer. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised that if it moves up big, it may sell off on the news with rates and Fed speak uncertainty later in the day, meaning I could possibly get it back not all that far off from where I sold the half I sold. On the other hand, if it moves down, then it becomes a buy back lower opportunity. Gun to head, I'd say it will beat and initially move up. What happens thereafter, if that's what happens, who knows? All this speculation just makes me split it down the middle. Sell half, keep half.

This move caused Vertiv stock to fall.] One person's take: $VRT $AMZN incorrect take by market, imho. AWS’s solution lives at the server/rack level (chip-to-rack cooling); Vertiv’s core business operates at the facility level (chillers, room-air handlers, building heat rejection). The two systems are complementary, not identical. ofc if the AWS thing is like amazingly good it culd reduce demand for VRT indirectly, but this is not a replacement product. Vertiv also supplies the facility-scale chillers, air handlers, UPS, and services that AWS still relies on, it’s not a one-to-one replacement product.

I was just saying that both AVGO and VRT are closely tied to NVDA and with a bad report they would have been squashed this evening. I actually had an alert set there on $AVGO but didn't buy because NVDA is my largest position and I didn't want to take on anymore chip risk.

You could make the point that $NVDA helped them this evening BUT in two days from now (as long as those paterns held) they were the correct buyable pivots. In fact, $CRWD and $TSLA were similar and they didnt need $NVDA, they went last week..... I also don't use "The Indexes" to make those decisions for me either.
