$NWL -- The hazards of holding over earnings...particularly when there is no margin for error on the chart. “If the stock falls, where is the support?” Here? It’s $20 bucks.
$ZM -- $406 is the breakout. Still in a basing pattern ... - bill52: $NWL Continues to keep a solid uptrend going and the bonus is the dividend. Staying long for now until proves otherwise.
- Wolf: $NWL Up 12.5% after so so earnings. Short setup? Thoughts please.
- Hans_Schultz1: 59 min trade watch - $NWL only stock on the gap down list I had heard of. So far everything is down for the count. No trade
- Lou: Have been building a position in $NWL - long calls and short puts. So far so good.
- Wolf: $NWL Beat earnings by 26%. Up over 20% friday. 11% of the float is short with 6 days to cover. Watch for a short squeeze.
- Wolf: $NWL IN @ 19.16, out @ 19.46. Still going.
- Robert1965: @Wolf $NWL Thanks for tip
- geothrills: @Wolf $NWL Indeed. Grats! In @ $19.40, out at $19.90.
- Wolf: @geothrills $NWL Nice trade! I got out too quick, but that isn't unusual for me.

- baronp0329: 2 consecutive great trading weeks! Had good profits day-trading and swing trading. Thanks @Dan, @Bridget, and all the SMM and OMM Members for their posts. - Lou: Added a bit to $NWL today. I am long shares and short puts and calls.
- Geewhiz: @Lou $NRE Thank you for keeping me in this trade. Solid profits. Your $NWL trade idea is also bearing fruit. Well done. All the best.
- Lou: @Geewhiz $NRE $NWL - glad that you're in them. I am preparing to take in a large number of $NRE shares on Friday as I do not want to take the ST profit from my gross cost of 10.71 on the $10 calls. Will still hold $10 and $12.50 calls for June and $10 calls for September. As for $NWL, I'm long shares and short puts. I'm also short $28 calls for May against some of my shares and may end up rolling them (in May) as I do not want to lose the shares.
- Lou: Caveat - I have not been very good at bottom picking - but today I started a small position in $NWL - long shares and short puts and calls. I sold the May 28 calls and the 1/19 puts. If my shares get called away at 28 in May I'm happy and still have my short puts. If not, I've reduced the cost of my shares.

- Aiko: $NWL - Rubermaid - 4% breakout from nice consolidation at the 50dma. #Squeeze wasn't quite as narrow as we like, but seems to be working. This was brought to my attention due to unusual action in #options.
- dunsek: UTX- stupid, stupid, stupid. Me, that is. Closed my $UTX Feb 80 calls @ 2.18, for a not-bad-in-2-days 15% on Jan 25th. Bidding $3.00 now. And... Sold all but my core of $NWL at 18.40 at the beginning of January. It's at 19.30 right now. Less stupid, I did cover off my risk of being out of it, with some out of the money calls for Feb, which are up 151% in 3 days, but doesn't make up for the $ I left on table with the common. CLosed the door to the risk room just a little too tightly on those two.

The planets seem to be aligning on this one- recent upgrades and price target hikes, takeover talk and a very decent chart. That said, if it doesn't make a new high I'll be trading back out to a core.
- dunsek: PCX, $NWL, TE- I managed to lock myself out of SMM earlier today so didn't get a chance to pop into the forum until now. That was a very healthy day, with a great move in PCX, very nice move in $NWL and $TE, one of my faves from the weekend scan, did ok as well. I'm thinking $TE may be less a utilities safe haven and maybe more a coal mining play via TECO Coal Corp, which they own. Either way, I liked it today and i'll be watching my little starter position and looking to add. As for PCX, wow, loving the coal sector still. 18.36 (the 200 week) may be a tough row to hoe, but I think I'll be looking to add on another move past 17.75- the mid point of the W. Oh, and thanks @Gary, for the unlock :)
- wachholder: $NWL - Only 1/3 off, that was a good trade. Think of it this way, If you were not employing risk management techniques, you might have taken 50% off or more, or would have a smaller position. Traders don't use stops, risk managers do. And studies have shown risk managers over the long run, do better than traders (over 80% of traders become ex-traders).
- dunsek: Top 5- $NWL, PCX, $MUR, $DNN, $Q
- dunsek: $UUP and Measurements- a lot of us use them. Nothing wrong with it at all. I'm still making great money on $NWL based on a measured move off a long term inverted head and shoulders. But that was essentially my point- having a measurement is just the beginning of your thesis. It's the "I see x and so now I expect y to happen" kind of thing. Seeing x is great, but you need to know what you are expecting to see in terms of y, to know if you'll make money, if the money you make is worth the risk, and at what point you'd be willing to accept that your interpretation of x was wrong.
- dunsek: NWL- Some observations: it's in the North East corner of the chart, new 52 week high, above the 200 $MA on the weekly and poking above the upper bb of the weekly for the 2nd week in a row. Price above the 20, which is above the 50, which is above the 200 on the daily, and looks to be finishing strong for the day. This is a great case in point as to why @Dan's 1% solution can be such a winner. I took profits recently on 75% of my $NWL, then sold almost all of the rest a day or two later because it failed to clear the 200 $MA on the weekly and looked like it might give up more gains, but kept a place holder and kept my eye on it. When it reversed course and started climbing again, I executed on the 1% solution and am fully back in, and enjoying this move.
- dunsek: NWL- offloaded 75% of my position this morning (but kept a core 25%), due to the lack of follow through, because of the overhead resistance from the 200 week ma and because it's tucked back in within the upper bb on the weekly rather than poking bravely above it. I'll look to pick my $NWL up again closer to the 50 day ma, because I'm expecting the expected. But, I'm also going to watch for the unexpected and will buy at least part of my trading position back if it moves 1% higher from where I sold.
- dunsek: NWL- been in this for about a year, trading around a core position. It's my largest position again now and has been for a while, so talking my book, but a close above 16.50 would be an interesting sign for me. A move past the downtrending resistance at 16.75 even more so, as I'm still working off a long term inverted head and shoulders thesis, with a $21 target. It helps to back away from the daily noise on $NWL and look at a long term chart- it's moved back into a long term uptrending channel and looks like it has a lot of potential to run. Edit- $BMO Capital upgraded shares of Newell Rubbermaid to Outperform from Market Perform and raised its price target to $20 from $19.
- Sparky: As we all know @JC always rides losers into the ground - "dollar cost averaging" and then eventually capitulating. Always has and always will. $NWL in 2002, and $FRX Spring of 2004 are 2 very personal examples of mine. I turned him off, and cut off his service 5 years ago. A friend told me that @JC was dollar coast averaging through May and then suddenly reversed and started selling. RECKLESS. Sorry. How he could have not seen the danger in this and warned his customers in the ensuing 2 months is beyond me. I'm personally glad to have a more consistent and sober mentor here. Hey but he does great fundamentals.
- dunsek: NWL- really popping today. Not sure why, but I'll take up 3.6%! Edit- Took a little off at 17.26. Still a major position for me, but nothing wrong with a little trading around a position. Edit 2- read a while ago that $NWL and $AVP (Avon Products) have struck a deal for $NWL to use AVP's 1.2 million salespeople in Brazil to sell $NWL products door to door. Looks to be a great and inexpensive way to penetrate a growing market and get their products in more hands.
- dlylis: $NWL This is a fairly common pattern this morning. Take $BA for example. There are others and I will try to get my list posted later. Thanks for the heads up on $NWL Edit: or $DD which was featured on #Cramer last night. I have a full position in my IRA but may open a trading position in my trading account
- Tim S: $NWL - I added to my position just now at $16.21, with a stop loss at $15.97 (50 day DMA is at $16.09)
- dunsek: Today's market- it really was an awesome day. The swings were absolutely breathtaking. I walked away from today having picked up some more $NWL at a very favorable average price and having stopped out of one biotech position for a minor loss, so all things considered I'm pretty happy with it. I'd be happier if my long standing stink bid on $TCK had gotten filled (missed it by $2) and if I had had one in on APPL, but such is life. Here's hoping you didn't get shaken out and didn't ignore the 3 day rule and sell too much today! Looking forward to @Dan's strategy session. Have a great evening all.

As for specific stocks, still liking $Q, might be time to get put $PFE back on the radar, EK still looking for that close over 6.10 or a revisit of 5.50, $NWL looks like it wants to revisit 14.94, $IGT is looking like it may be done going down and $ ... - dunsek: Winners and losers- I KNEW I should have shorted tanning bed manufacturers :) Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm hoping for a buy the dip opportunity this morning, but expecting any dip to be relatively short lived. Looking to buy back the $NWL I sold on Friday to protect gains, will add to some $Q if given a chance (and would be a huge fan of a chance at 4.76), and looking to nibble on some $FLIR on any opportune drop between here and 26.75
- dunsek: NWL- sold 2/3 of my position this morning, looking to buy most of that back if $NWL holds above 15.21. If not, the little bull penant I think I see may have failed and the fib line at 14.94 would be my next support target.
- Tim S: $NWL - boy, I almost want to yell about this one ... did anyone else get on board this? Solid move higher again today. Fantastic chart. It's approaching resistance at $15.75 ... any move above $16 provides blue sky. I tightened up my initial stop but am holding and watching.
- billfishy: $NWL hope we don't hex it, but it's been a good move. Daily ups and stop tightenings. hope it continues. bill
- dunsek: NWL- don't like to jinx it, and it's still early, but $NWL is continuing its recent move so far. Now on day 9 with no red candle. Logical (and visible) resistance around 15.00, so it'll be interesting to see if it can clear that. Long, no trailing stop in place as yet.
- Tim S: $NWL - dunsek, I could have typed out the exact same post. My wife told me I had a funny smile on my face this morning when I checked my laptop, and this was the stock I was looking at. Solid, nice steady climb back. Makes me feel all warm inside. :-) $BBY is doing the same thing, by the way.
- Tim S: $BBY, $NWL, $SLB I've been posting about these three for the last week or two ... $BBY - sideways today. Retail sector; potentially a chance to build some strength and move higher. Keep an eye on it. $NWL - moving higher yet again. I'm very happy with this jewel. $SLB - yesterday's move above the 50DMA was tested this morning, and support held. I just added to my position. Good opportunity here.
- aragorn555: $NWL - Dunsek - a nice problem to have - it has made a very nice move in the last 2 weeks (9%) and 9 green candles in a row. If you are concerned, not knowing what you have take some off or tighten that stop so tight that if it falls you are out. Did you pull out to the weekly - it is still in a VS, volume a little light but that is for everything - OBV very positive, it is being accumulated. Going through the downdraft from Jan 15th start and not having any problem moving up so those people are out and probably not that many sellers. I think I would stay with it but it is your trade. Good going.
- Tim S: $NWL - right there with you. Long @ $14.28 and added last week; any pullback and I would add more.
- Tim S: $NWL - Move above $14 has held, and I will probably add to this position today. It moved above the upper Bollinger band yesterday. Keep an eye on this one, folks!
- dunsek: NWL- been long (and trading around the core) since last July. The sideways action from Nov to now has had me questioning my inverted head and shoulders, measured move to 20 thesis, but I'm sticking with it and $NWL remains my largest-by far- position. I'm with you, @Tim :)
- Tim S: $SLB, $NWL, $BBY Three I mentioned yesterday. $SLB continues moving higher. I think @Dan was absolutely right in stating that the pullback from purchasing SII was a great entry opportunity. I believe I'll be holding this one for a bit. $NWL continues creeping up towards the upper Bollinger band. I'm still watching, waiting for it to close above $14 $BBY - starting to creep higher. I have a 1/2 position from a great entry point; I expect to see a run up into earnings (I think the "expected" let-down on consumer spending is not going to prove as bad as thought).
- Tim S: $NWL - above $14, and hit the upper BB. I've opened a position.
