  • phgruver: @Auto $ARR $ORC $NLY The secret to #High_Yielders is to hang on for a looooong time. I first bought $NLY back in 2011, at Jim Cramer's recommendation. It took a big hit, a few years later, when the CEO died, and has srugled to get back on track. Technically, I'm still underwater, even though I've taken advantage of lower prices to add. When I add in dividends I've received, though, my real cost basis is down to $4/share, and heading lower! In a couple more years, if Real Estate doesn't crumble, It'll become "free money".

  • geotheo: @jan2138 $ARCC Thanks for taking a look. I had a sell order in for $16.85 but raised it after your post. I think I'll hold on some more. Now if $ARR would follow it I'd be golden. I should have never done the Ronco, "Set it and forget it". Been hold a smallish position before the 2 split.
  • jan2138: $ARR: Dan covered this one in last night's SS. In case you are involved, I suggest you take a look at the dividend history. In 2011, they were paying .96 monthly and from there, it has been all downhill. It was cut to .88, then .80, .72, .64, .56, .40, .32, then up a penny to .33, then cut to .22 and finally to .19 which they have been paying all through 2017. I took a quick look at the last 2 quarterly results, and they are covering this dividend and then some. Just a note of caution to keep on top of the earnings as they are not reluctant to cut the dividend when needed.
  • grcjr: @jan2138 $ARR - thanks for the posts. I cannot remember when I got out of this ticker.

  • SierraJW: @jan2138 @Yieldhogs $ARR Here is a link for $ARR, they had an earnings Conf. Call 11/3, currently looks like consolidation continues, trading at $22.95, 11.9% dividend . Others?: $ALX 16%, $NRF 11.6%, AGNC 11.0%, $PSEC 13.25% (NP, just noted dividends)
  • SierraJW: @jan2138 $ARR $AGNC $JMI I noticed that $ARR is currently at 11.36% return at $23.25 ... you posted last on 8/1Thoughts on this as a investment? Time-frame?
  • jan2138: @SierraJW $ARR Since I am not long this one, I have not stayed current on it. I will take a look when I get some time. Am in the midst of reviewing quite a few ER's now.
  • jan2138: $ARR Dan covered this in last Thursday's SS. I could not get in to the forum on Friday before I had to leave for the weekend so, I could post my observation about $ARR. Some things to be aware of: they have cut the dividend which was .33 in 8/2015 to ...
  • infocus: @jan2138 $ARR $AGNC $JMI - $NRF Sold a couple of months ago. NP but thinking about buying back. Would you go for the dividend now or be more inclined to wait for a pullback after the ex-div date? Hope you're feeling well.
  • DAN: @jan2138 $ARR $AGNC $JMI Thanks for this great insight, jan2138
  • hazelb41: @jan2138 $ARR Thanks. Your input was exactly what I was looking for. I will follow your advice and wait on this one. I already have CSAL, IVR, WIN, NYMT, NLY, PSEC, CIM, NEWT, MITT. Enough, I think. But I do love yield. By the way, the time issue is due to the fact that I live in Thailand (10 years now) so I am 11 hours out from NY. Makes it almost impossible to "trade."
  • jan2138: @hazelb41 $ARR "Thailand", OMG, you are a little bit away=:+)) Are you going to be there forever?
  • hazelb41: @jan2138 $ARR Please go back a day and read my post to you re: ARR. I am most interested in your input.
  • jan2138: @hazelb41 $ARR #yieldhogs Wow. I had a hard time finding your 4:18 a.m. post=:+)) I sold my position in this some time ago because of the negative path of the dividends, i.e. consistent reductions. Book value fell from 28.00 to 24.48 last quarter. Th ...
  • hazelb41: @jan2138 $ARR #yieldhogs It appears to me that this old fave might have bottomed -- a double. An uptrend to resistance and a pullback to a potential higher low. Sideways consolidation for this past week appears to verify that higher low. Isn't i ...
  • Wolf: @JAN2138 $ARR Any thoughts on this 18.2% yield? Analysts are 8.2 bullish. Thanks and Happy New Year!
  • jan2138: @Wolf $ARR I don't follow this one any more. And, with the reverse split back in July, it's tough to make a quick analysis. I do note that the annual dividend totals have been declining over time. Sorry, I can't give you a full analysis. Mtg. reits are not easy to understand.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $ARR downgraded by Compass Point from a "Buy" to "Neutral" with a 4.25 price target down from 5.00. $CNSL downgraded from "Buy" to "Hold" by Jeffries.
  • SeaKingA: @jan2138 $ARR and $CYS fell off the list, but both have made nice comebacks this past week.
  • dave11: @jan2138 @yieldhogs, it was not a good day for my portfolio which did take a big hit today, however my yieldhog portfolio was all green with only 2 exceptions $TCAP and $T. Here is the list of my yieldhogs which all went up today. $ARR, $PSEC, $AGNC, $FSC, $NLY, $ARCC, $O. On Days like today its nice to have a portion of the portfolio in these stocks.
  • SeaKingA: @dave11 #yieldhogs in my pen: $ARR $CYS $PSEC $TICC $VGR $WIN
  • jan2138: @SeaKingA $ARR; has done well since March, but if I were you, I'd keep a close watch on this one. Even though they have declared divs. for the year, the dividend history is terrible which is an indication that things may not be all that rosy. As they say, "just sayin".
  • jan2138: @dave11 #Mtg. Reits; very glad to hear that. They had a rough road earlier in the year but continued to pay attractive dividends through that period. Then, they enjoyed a nice rally. I am no longer long $ARR, $AGNC or $NLY. But, I am long $AI, $DX, $IVR, $MFA, $MITT, $NRF, $NRF.PR.B, $NYMT, $REM, $TWO, and $WMC. I am looking at $CYS and watching $AGNC. Again, patience through trying times can be rewarded as long as the dividends keep flowing.

  • DragonFly: @#cramer - the street.com put out a "sell" call on $ARR a few days ago. Been going up since then. They've declared the div for the year - what's not to like?
  • DragonFly: $ARR - #yieldhogs- announed additional buy backs - good news!
  • DragonFly: $ARR - @Jan2138- My feelings are if they are buying back stock, they wouldn't be issuing new stock any time soon..Does that hold true, in your experience? Thanks
  • DAN: $ARR -- this is a really, really good pattern, @DragonFly. Nice little volatility #squeeze right along the 200-day moving average...now moving out and up. 13.86% yield. What's not to like.
  • jan2138: $ARR @Dragonfly: you would think so, but the mtg.#reits do it to increase book value when earnings are not doing it. ARR's #dividend history is not a good one. In 2010, they paid a total of $1.52; in 2011, they paid a total of $1.41; in 2012, $1.20; ...
  • RtHereRtNow: #Yieldhogs-Monthly Dividends - If you're interested, here's what I track: $LNCO, OXLCO, $PMM, $BTA, $PSEC, $VPV, $VGM, $VMO, $CFD, $EDF, $EIP, $ETJ, $ETW, $ETY, $EXG, $FSC, $MHI, $GGN, $GNT, $HNW, $JMI, $NUO, $EVO, $ARR, $SBR, RCS...Enjoy!
  • DragonFly: $ARR - #yieldhogs- Started a position in $ARR this morning after they paid the div for the month. 14% yield and they have declared the div for all of 2014. Monthly payer, I like that. Weekly and yearly chart looks like they have found a bottom and rebounding. I've been out of the #reits for the last year but seems time to @wade back in the waters.
  • jan2138: $ARR @Dragonfly: you may be a little bit late to the party in some of these as they have been in rally mode for awhile.
  • seahawk: $ARR - @jan2138 @Dana have you taken a look at Armour Residential recently? It looks like it's trying to pop out of a #squeeze! Bill
  • DrScience: $ARR @seahawk I think you're going to see the stock flop around here in the $4 range until earnings reveals how well they navigated interest rate spikes and how well their hedges have worked.
  • jan2138: $ARR @seahawk: It's one I was in until 3/2013 when I sold it @ 6.56 because of the #dividend pattern which was declining. I became interested again because it seems to have stabilized at .05 which has been announced as the rate for all of 2014 and confirmed for the first quarter. I would not reenter until I see the next earnings report. I don't think I will lose anything by waiting.
  • DrScience: $ARR Collected another thin buffalo-head nickel #dividend today, lowering cost basis to last months lows. Wa-hoo! 1/6th of the way... in the IRA... to a 14% gain... ah... er... today!
  • tallal: @jan2138...also, $GGN and $ARR working into exdates.
  • jan2138: @tallal: yes they are although I don't think the divs. are the reason as they are monthly and not large in absolute dollars. I think $ARR is running up with most of the mtg. #reits and $GGN, well, I guess some see a more optimistic picture her and are taking the price up a bit.
  • DrScience: $ARR picked up some after ex-div @3.70. Up 5%+ today. Buyers still coming in the door.
  • jan2138: $ARR @DrScience: this could work out well for you. I think they may be in the process of getting their act together after many qtrs. of cutting divs. I was in it and sold back in 3/2013 @ 6.56 when it was apparent that their model was not working. It is back on my radar screen with recent developments. Good luck with it.
  • jan2138: #yieldhogs: $CIM, like $ARR, is another low $ mtg. reit that is enjoying new found enthusiasm. $CIM has a better div. record but up-to-date #financials would help instill some investor confidence although they seem to be diving in anyway.
  • DragonFly: #Yieldhogs@Jan2138 - $ARR declared a years worth of divs @.05 a month. Is this something you would be comfortable investing in? that gives it 16% yield for the year.
  • wyseguy: AGNC/ARR @jan2138 I was lumping $ARR and $AGNC into the same basic area but it sounds like $ARR may be holding its #dividend rate where $AGNC seems to be under more pressure from your commentary. Any opinion on if one is better positioned than the other (or other stocks in this class) and what $NAV is for each? (Not sure how to find that)
  • jan2138: AGNC/ARR @wyseguy: $ARR just declared 12 months of dividends @ .05 per. This is somewhat encouraging in that the .05 is another cut in a series of cuts beginning back in 2011 but now you know what you'd be getting for one whole year. They divs. can't ...
  • wyseguy: ARR/AGNC @Jan2138 Thanks for the detailed reply. I took some lumps when $AGNC and $ARR fell off the cliff but at least I took @Dan's advise on most of that drop and had stops in. Now if I only would have not tried to pick the bottom... 8) I was just thinking that with $ARR having a 16% return, the stock could still fall over the next year to 3.14 and the position in total (minus some tax consequences) would be even. Seems like a good hedge to a stock that may not have completely found its base yet.
  • mkridge708: $ARR - Closed out position with a significant percentage loss. Lesson LEARNED.
  • SeaKingA: $ARR - Still holding mine but down 40% from purchase. I'll have to add up the divs to see whether it was worth it. :/
  • Auto: $ARR @jan2138 what do you feel about ARR? it has dropped so much will we see it return? thanks in advance
  • jan2138: $ARR @ Auto: this is a very good example as to why it is critical to analyze and watch developments in the #dividend history. I sold my $ARR back on 3/13/13 when they announced the coming #dividend which was a cut from .08 to .07. I had lived through ...
  • dave11: $AGNC, $REM, $NLY, $ARR, $WIN, $PSEC, $TICC, $FSC, $TCAP, $O - high yield portfolio all green except AGNC. These positions are the building blocks of my portfolio.
  • mkridge708: @#Yieldhogs - $PSEC - Ex-div today. Adding. $NLY, $JMI, $ARR - Low-risk entries. I'd be adding if I weren't full.

  • jan2138: #yieldhogs: Mtg. #reits fading with downgrades of $AGNC and $ARR by Sandler-O"Neill to sell. And, Compass Point raised a number of "non agency" #reits including $ARR to buy. Go figure.
  • mdttdm: $GGN Thanks for the response,I have been watching $GGN for an entry, it was up today while $GLD and $GDX were down,I think this is due to ex-date of 9/12. Currently I am holding $ARR,EOS,$ETJ,ETV,$ETW,ETY,$EXG,FSC,$JMI,MHI,$WMC in my cash account and $CNSL,MCC,$NMFC,OXLC,$PNNT,REM,$TICC,VGR in IRA.Trying to build positions in monthly payers for income in cash account.I have been hesitant to add, expecting more of a pull-back,watching PSEc,also. Thanks for your input,I don't post much, never learned how to type, I do read all of yours ,Looking forward to any thoughts on additional monthly payers .Thanks..@Mike
  • bigbartabs: #REITs... @jan2138, @RAMO... or, just use the $ETF REM. Less chance of one ticker blowing you out. Of course in this sector, one ticker's ills are probably the sector's... but nevertheless, it can soften the blow... or at least give you a little more time to consider and react. Also softens gap risk. The top 10 stocks (69%) in $REM by size... $NLY, $AGNC, $STWD, $TWO, $MFA, $CIM, $HTS, $IVR, $ARR, NRF
  • Iceman: $ARR, $CYS, #YieldHogs, Short Puts - I sold the following puts for a month out: Sold $CYS Sep 21 2013 7.0 Puts @ 0.35 Sold $ARR Sep 21 2013 4.0 Puts @ 0.25 Assignment would add these to my existing positions at favorable prices. Expiration would just enhance the generous #dividend.
  • MartySS: $ARR, $CYS @ICEMAN - I sold the fear and sold some puts also. So far I'm not sure if I'm really smart or really dumb. At least I should know the answer soon as they were Sept puts. :-)
  • jimbo23334: $ARR - @Jan2138 any advice on what to do with this one. My dad has this in his account since $7ish. I see delisting talks mentioned since it is under $5. Maybe get him into another high yielder but he is going to be gunshy now
  • jan2138: $ARR @jimbo: I hadn't noticed since I exited this back in 3/2013 because of the #dividend history, i.e. constant cuts in the cash payouts. Non compliance does not appear to be a big deal because all they need to do is appoint an independent director. The .07 div. is good through Sept.. It has been consolidating since mid June and the bb's are tightening. If I still owned it, I probably would hold it watching it closely. If it's an either /or situation, i.e. need cash to buy something else, then I'd take the loss and buy a BDC.
  • mkridge708: @Iceman Yielhogs, downgrades - The non-event reaction by $JMI and $ARR (Maxim Group downgrade from Buy to Hold) is further evidence, in my view, that the bottom is in on the mREITs.
