  • issues: @champ $MO $SPX $XLU $AES $RAI $T $VZ Champ you wrote, "You can always buy them..." back but if you sell at a loss within a month your cost basis is raised by whatever loss you incurred. I tried that a few years back and got slammed with the "Wash sale rule," that raised my basis so high that I could never make the loss back. It was a very expensive lesson for me and I would sure like to save you the same problem.

I already sold $XLU $AES and $RAI but I'm going to hold $T and $VZ. I' m just taking profits and risk off the table for now. I can always buy them back. LOL

  • aragorn555: $AES - in a volatility expansion. It moved above its' upper BB yesterday and is continuing to move higher today. It is not too late for this one it looks like it is just getting started. Any thoughts appreciated
  • aragorn555: $AES - I came across this stock as a component of the XLU. This sector has been moving very well as you know from the Q&A discussion the other night. From what I can see from the daily chart this stock has been consolidating and badly lagged other stocks in the index. It appears to have broken above the 50 day EMA which had been resistance. I think this has room to move up to the low 15.00 area before meeting some additional resistance from earlier buyers. If anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate thoughts and analysis of the chart.
  • BamaPete: $AES, price moved above downslope of its pennant or little triangle yesterday on decent volume and a second test of its 200-day resistance past few days as it nudged over once again. If it can get over 9.72 resistance a lot of open air above as I see no other obvious nearby resistance until maybe the 15 or 16'ish area.
  • BamaPete: $AES, VRSN. Both had recent breakouts from bases and made fast moves, and both have now pulled back, forming a pennant or small triangle for $AES, and a flag for VRSN. $AES at 200-day resistance, $VRSN resting on top. Good volume each during the runups; $VRSN had only one day of great volume but it was the day that surged and took out its 200-day. Worth watching imo.
  • dunsek: $AES looks like it's doing its part in the Utilities sector #squeeze. While it wasn't in the tightest #squeeze, the bands were narrowed and are now clearly expanding. Others are $DTE which I went long yesterday afternoon, $NVE and OGE. Many others in the sector remain in a #squeeze and are worth a watch to see which way they resolve.
  • razmataz: Fun Facts: 24% of the SP-100 have increased 20 or more percent since the recent novermeber lows. 65% have increased 10% or more. and 4 have gone down since then (SLB, $HNZ, $AES, CPB) conclusion: - still thinking about it. [edit] I have done an exhaustive analysis of the s&p 100 (well i just got tired of looking - i didn't get enough sleep) and for the part, with few exceptions, i see a lot of stocks bound on the upside by their 20day ma or some other form of resistance. I remain biased to the downside.
