  • issues: @issues I did a little research and found site Dana used to use: https://www.cefconnect.com/Default.aspx Some of the ones I used to own include: $TCPC $MAIN $USAC $OFS $TSLX & $SRC. I hold $AGNC and $NLY
  • issues: ...
What about the darling little hogs Dana used to mention? They might be good to look at too. I recently bought $NLY and $AGNC. Where is the list of HOGS?
  • woodman: @issues $SPX $NLY $AGNC - Throughout Reagan's two terms, interest rates were higher than they are today. https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/interest-rate (hit the Max tab). Historically, they remain on the low side.
  • issues: @woodman $SPX $NLY $AGNC Right! The Federal Reserve increased interest rates (prime rate peaking at 20.5% in August 1981). Interest rates fell after that. I was sorry that I didn't buy long term bonds (T-bonds) because the dwindling rates at the S & Ls kept going down. Do you remember those halcyon years? It wasn't until 2000 that I finally gave up on S & Ls and got into the stock market. I watched some guests on Charles Payne saying he's short this market but shorting is hard for me. I have the fear of over staying my welcome and cover too soon. Like I did with TSLA. So bonds may be a better way to go, or at least some portion of the portfolio, eh?
  • champ: @woodman $SPX $NLY $AGNC ....During Presidents Carters term, 1977 to 1981..... I was paying a mortgage rate at 16.7% and the high around that time was at 18.5%......and the Fed funds rate hit 20%....because of inflation again....back in the 1980's....now that was high.....and what's going on now is still low.....
  • issues: @champ $SPX $NLY $AGNC That's right Champ. I am wondering how high interest rates will go under the additional massive spending just passed in Congress which will add another $1.7 trillion to the already sky-high national debt of $31.45 trillion (https://mail.usdebtclock.org/) The reason we have inflation is irresponsible/extravagant government spending! What else could it be?
  • champ: @issues $SPX $NLY $AGNC....My post about the Carter years, when interest rates peaked at 20%, was just to show others that interest rates are still low......and the guess about how high interest rates could climb, is now going to be all about how #inflation holds-up over the next few month...... .....and my guess would be, maybe rates will climb up another full % point (1).......and it could play out like this..... ......the next rate hike could be another 1/2 point..... then they probably will step-down/slow-down to a few quarter point rate hikes and then they #might wait to see how the Inflation-Data plays out.......hopefully Inflation will start to drop..... have a Merry Christmas.
  • martyrb3: @gmj $NLY $AGNC Building both of these. Similar charts, just crossing 50. AGNC pays 15%
  • DavidM: Yieldhogs screaming lower. I had not looked at any lately. $AGNC, $BCSF, $NLY. Looks like they are going out of business.
  • Margi1983: @DavidM $AGNC $BCSF $NLY Even $MAIN has had a massive drop. With inflation and higher interest rates, it appears the market hates BDC's doing debt financing
  • Forexpro: @DavidM $AGNC $BCSF $NLY Thanks, DavidM, Yeah, I'm down to a placeholder in $BCSF, and have been warned by a friend whose fund owns a lot not to buy any before it reaches 6. He seems pretty confident, but it's true that with rates up, a recession maybe, possibly looming, and new money tougher to raise, these might not be the ideal hiding places, although it's fun to watch the stated dividend yield move up :-) Sure was nice while it lasted, but nothing does. Hope you're well, and thriving; all the best!
  • phgruver: @Margi1983 $AGNC $BCSF $NLY $MAIN Mostly, I agree, but $NLY has an additional risk. Mortgage debt is only guaranteed to 85%, the other 15% is on the lender/servicer of the debt. In the event of a real estate collapse, $NLY could be forced to write down that 15% times their rate of leverage, which is believe is about 6:1. That could hurt ... a lot!
  • stairm01: @grcjr $NLY #YIELDHOGS I've looked at many of JAN2138's Yield Hogs and they have rolled off the cliff. They are not looking good at all, but I'm watching $CLM $AGNC $NEWT for a possible bounce and move higher candidates.
  • vscottg: @stairm01 $NLY $CLM $AGNC $NEWT #YIELDHOGS Notes from yesterday afternoon:

  • stairm01: @vcondry $BX Looks similar to many Yield Hogs ($NLY-17% $CLM- 25.98% $AGNC-15.8% $NEWT-16.5%) and banks ($BAC $JPM $FAS $C) in general. They all have rolled off a cliff and dropping like a rock. I'm watching for a bottom in AGNC and CLM, provided they continue to pay their dividend.
  • vcondry: @stairm01 $BX $NLY $CLM $AGNC $NEWT $BAC $JPM $FAS $C It operates much differently than those companies though. Not a REIT and I don't believe was ever intended to be a yield hog just has gotten crushed with the wider market.
  • grcjr: #YIELDHOGS $AGNC xdiv 8/30 (tomorrow). 8 quarters of payout of $0.360. Yield 11.64%. Next payout 9/12. Monthly payout.

  • grcjr: #YIELDHOGS @JAN2138 several tickers to look at. I have not spent enough time on these as yet ... Yield is not the only important number. DivX today (6/29/99) Ticker, Yield $NLY 14.74% $BCSF, 14.74% $CIM, 14.98$ (watch this. • stairm01: @AndStars $NLY $AGNC #REITs #Yieldhogs I started buying back into AGNC on March 8 when it looked like the sell off from $16 was finally over. I also own $CLM that has a yield of 15%. Good one to buy 6 to 8 days after dividend. Trade around a core.

  • Ajax4Hire: @Forexpro $GS $JPM $C $WFC $TTWO $ZNGA Interest Rate hikes, four(4) predicted this year. Makes me look toward fixed-income REITs like: $NLY(11%), $AGNC(9.5%), $WHF(9%), $CIM(8.7%) APR. (But not $ORC, too painful)

  • Pokersmith: @seank $IYR $AGNC $APLE $NLY right, not ALL REITS. In principle, high dividend instruments get dinged, but it isn't a definite outcome, as the rate of rate increase is an unknown. More like a "reaction" to rising rates will be to sell those, generally speaking. Having said that, IYR is trading below its 50 sma
  • genki: $NLY $AGNC similar charts, testing 200 MA.
  • JackB: $MORT #YIELDHOGS $NLY on the Active Trade List isn't doing much today, but $MORT, an ETF for REITs, is up 1.35% as I type this. Checked and a bunch of second-tier ($NLY & $AGNC make up over a quarter of the ETF) REITs are moving sharply higher. $MORT is a bit thinly-traded, so if this bothers you $REM is pretty similar. And $NLY has certainly outperformed this ETF, my point in posting is some of the second-tier REITs might be worth a look. LONG this ETF so long that my dividends are a good deal higher than what I paid for it originally.
  • gmj: $RNP 5.75% , $NLY 9.70%, bouncing off 50ma area, $AGNC 8.62% bouncing off the lows Fav yeild hogs work added to RNP/NLY and started new pos sm in AGNC good workers
  • JackB: @champ $AGNC #spinning #all-the-time I'm guessing it means that they'll sell shares via private placement as they cut deals with various big buyers to sell at a discount. This stuff always aggravates me.
  • wijimmy: @champ $AGNC #spinning #all-the-time... Many of my income positions (REIT's,,,BDC''s,,, CEF's..all yielhhogs.) do this after a Big run up... it is very annoying ..( but I do understand it to raise money) They always say they are using the money for future investments.. Most times they state a price the shares are going to be sold at..and the stock price usually doesn't fall under that price.. When there is no price announced it is very fishy to me and it feels like the Regular Joe is getting screwed again..
  • farview: @Amisure $AGNC Tangible book value went from 17.96 April 30 to 16.82 May31. That is a substantial decline for a 30 day period.
  • Henry: @farview $AGNC And that could have been just the fall in interest rates during that time. Wish Jan2138 were still around to explain bond stuff
  • wijimmy: @farview $AGNC....Not Good.. to add more headache... monthly div keeps dropping in 2014 it was .22 cents every year since it has been dropped.... now its .12 cents a month.... about 8.15% yield...
  • Amisure: $AGNC- any specific reason for the significant drop over the last two days? Normal drop after dividend or something else???
  • champ: @Amisure $AGNC --- Take a look at the News, they said that they will be selling share of there stock, when needed, there words were "from time to time".
  • Henry: @Amisure $AGNC Their book value was down too. Reits always sell shares from time to time.
  • champ: @Amisure $AGNC ...Did you find that News...because they said, like I posted earlier, that they will be selling shares, these are their #spinning words, "from time to time", for a total of $1.25B,...... .....however the Market calls that a Stock-Offering...and they can now sell, at anytime they want to sell, up to $1.25B $$$'s in shares. I never heard of a company saying, from time to time before, now that will keep investors off guard...#all-the-time...and thats a real dumb statement, a dumb mistake, that somebody made.
  • Henry: $AGNC #Yieldhog Down a 3% last night after they announce book value fell about a buck. They had no comment on why.
  • BocaRick: @Pokersmith $NLY $AGNC falls below 50MA?
  • Pokersmith: @BocaRick $NLY $AGNC I've always found AGNC to be cagey. I stay away.
  • stairm01: @Cokeman1959 $NLY Many yield hogs dipped today. $AGNC is down 0.94
  • Henry: @Jazman0013 $NEWT I've owned it as a yield hog for a number of years. Should have bought more when @grcjr posted about their pending dividend increase in tthe 3rd and 4th quarters on 5/11. Since then its up 25% $NLY is paying 9.5% RHRN $NEWT will yield 8.8% based on the projected divy of $3.15 and todays' price. Based on that, I'd say it is fully valued and if you bought it for a trade, take partials or set some staggered stops. Some yieldhogs like $AGNC have been long term dogs $AGNC is still down 50% from it's all time highs, so is $NLY for that matter. $NEWT, $MAIN $CODI are not in that category I have diamond hands on NEWT
  • Pokersmith: @Henry $NEWT $NLY $AGNC $MAIN $CODI Long MAIN, fwiw
  • Jazman0013: @Henry $NEWT $NLY $AGNC $MAIN $CODI more than a couple yield hogs got hit good. $PSEC is wonderful if you bought somewhere around $5 but has been a nightmare hold for long term holders. Just because they have high yield doesn’t make them invincible... in fact cuts to yield and other issues are very toxic. If they slowly rise or stay stagnant that dividend is a beautiful thing. I have been taking profits on many long term holds like $PSEC and took half off of $NEWT yesterday. Too easy to go from hero to hobo...
