  • mopick: @mharps $XFLT $EFC $MO #Hi-Yielders, have $MO as well. Your $XFLT looks very similar to my $PFLT. The latter was doing great until the last three days.

I haven't vetted these in any way apart from the quickest glance at the charts; none of them look like recent disasters. All are priced sub-30, and they vary in industry and market cap. Just some tickers to pot ...
  • scottrades: $EFC #Squeezing a little today. It pays a 0.14 cent monthly divy. Ex Dividend Day is December 30.
  • scottrades: $EFC coming out of a #Weekly Squeeze.
  • issues: OK thanks to all you folks I bought some of your posts. Err well some of the stocks you wrote about: VRX (1/2 position) NTNX (neg earnings but good company with bright future)and ETFC (I like this vol squeeze and I bet the shorts will get squeezed.) With each purchase I put in tight stops: $VRX $21, $EFC $49, $NTNX $35 Still holding 1/2 position in $ROKU and would like to add. It seems to bounce off the 20 day regularly. Maybe tomorrow or is this all the pull back I get?

  • barbjim12: @Jan2138 or any other expert. Reits I still own $EFC, $NYMT, $NYMTO, and $WMC. Should I be looking for a good time to sell before the proposed rate hike. I have been following them closely and recent declines are of concern. I am under water on all but SNYMTO. thanks in advance.
  • jan2138: @barbjim12 $EFC $NYMT $NYMTO $WMC : I am not familiar with $EFC. I had sold $WMC a while back and $NYMT recently both well before this market adjustment. If you do a search on these using the "month" choice, I think you will find my comments on these. $NYMTO is a preferred stock and will not be nearly as volatile in a market like this. I still own it and will continue to hold.
  • DAN: @barbjim12 $EFC $NYMT $NYMTO $WMC Hey barbjim12. I'm not an expert on reits, but I'll share my thoughts. NYMT -- 15.5% yield is nice, but the stock is printing lower highs and lows. It invests in ARMs and MBS (mortgage backed securities). But I honestly don't know which way a rate hike impacts it. I would think it's not a good thing. I wouldn't be holding NYMT (nor NYMTO, which I believe is just NYMT traded on Canada's exchange). -- for the same reason. EFC is in jail..trading range of about a buck. If it starts falling below $17, I'd want to sell. WMC -- I think you're ok there, as long as the stock doesn't fall below $10 again. I know you're asking more about the interest rate picture, and I'm speaking to the charts. But I also believe that price action tends to anticipate events. Hope that helps. Dan
  • jan2138: @DAN $EFC $NYMT $NYMTO $WMC : $NYMTO is a preferred stock and trades on NASDAQ.
  • jan2138: @barbjim12 $EFC $NYMT $NYMTO $WMC I posted about my sale of $NYMT on 8/24/16, basically a fundamentals decision
  • barbjim12: Jan2138 I am all in cash except for yield hogs. Am I safe to continue to hold these: $EFC, $NYMT, $NYMTO, and WMC ? thanks in advance.
  • jan2138: @barbjim12 $EFC $NYMT $NYMTO That's a tough question. I will answer it by saying I continue to be long $NYMT and $NYMTO. I have never owned $EFC so, I am not familiar with it. As I posted some time ago, I sold my $WMC fearing a dividend cut. They cut ...
  • barbjim12: jan2138 - With the rate hike in two days should I be concerned with my yieldhogs: $efc, $wmc, $nymt, $nymto and $wmc? I am currently under water on all of them. Thanks
  • jan2138: @barbjim12 $efc $wmc $nymt $nymto : I do not follow $EFC although I do see that it is trading significantly below Book Value as most mtg. reits are currently. $WMC is one I posted about not too long ago. I sold my position because I think there is a ...
  • Jadee: @dunsek Took my bottom picker scan changed % down to 5 got this $ERJ, $RAS, $IEP, $MVC, $EFC I will post the scan criteria later as I have many calls today... Damn work interfering with my trading hobby again.
  • DragonFly: $EFC @ Jan2138 - this one looks interesting and then I think a sister co EARN is interesting also. Thoughts?
  • jan2138: @DragonFly $EARN & $EFC; I will look at these when I get back from an appointment I have this a.m. I can tell, you are excited =: )
  • DragonFly: @jan2138 $EFC- I listened to the CC. Liked what I heard but they always make things sound good. Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts on this one and EARN
  • jan2138: @DragonFly $EFC: I remember looking at this one at one point in the past. I did not pursue it because it is a K-1 generator. However, dividend record looks pretty good with a special declared in 2012 as a bonus. Estimated diluted book value @ 3/31/14 was 24.10 so, it is trading at about a 1.5% discount to book. Looks as though they had a decent 1st quarter earning more than enough to cover the dividend. If you don't mind doing the tax work, this one might fit if you have room for another mtg. reit. If I were interested in a K-1 holding, I would dig a bit deeper into the last quarterly report before pulling the trigger. With the pullback, if it establishes support, there might be an entry. But, no dividend until 9/14. Next div. comes sooner, i.e. towards the end of this month.
  • DragonFly: $EFC @Jan2138 - What if it is held in an IRA - how does that work for K 1?
  • jan2138: @DragonFly $EFC; it's okay unless you generate too much UBTI, i.e. Unrelated Business Taxable Income. I suggest you Google "ubti in ira" to get an explanation of how it works. If you generate more than a certain amount, then there will be a tax. I have one K-1'er, BBEP, in 2 IRA's but in small lots so, I do not trigger a taxable event.
  • DragonFly: @jan2138 $EFC -thanks Dana, your a Gem! I'm going to start a position in this one and sell EOS. Yield is 7.7% now Doesn't look so good but have nice appreciation in it.
  • bobbybo: Question for the yield hogs out there... $EFC seems like something currently worth watching... 13.4% yield... another one that deals in"mortgage related" investments... looks like it has been cycling down to a possible buy point.... Anyone know anything about it? Was able to find that one Legg Mason fund, LMOPX, has a pretty big stake -- https://individualinvestor.myleggmason.com/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=67969&cached=true&mode=2&userID=355661&mktcd=LMOP If anyone has any thoughts, would appreciate it!
  • rnrdallas: bobbybe- if you want to play in this area maybe a basket is safer. Give these a look $ARCP, $CMO, $MAIN, $PMT, $NRF, own then all. The thing that concern me most, been watching $EFC, is coming out of the last #squeeze it is bouncing along and below the lower BB. The Div. are lower but the stocks are safer. Hope this helps.
  • jan2138: $EFC @bobbybo: I have looked at this as a possible add to my portfolio but have not primarily because it is an LLC and issues a K-1 instead of a 1099. Long time members know how I feel about K-1's. I had one this year and that is one too many for me. ...
  • dividend135: yield hog $EFC Ellington Financial's (EFC) quarterly #dividend of $0.77 per share is inline with previous, and good for an annualized yield of 13.5% on a stock trading at a 6% discount to September 30 book value. The #dividend is payable on December 16 to shareholders of record as of November 29. from alpha
  • davewells: WMC/AGNC/IVR...unloaded the last of my agency mtge #reits this am in favor of $EFC which seems to specialize in non-agency paper..solid recent quarter..goes ex div 5/31..good luck with any of these but the agency space seems to be really affected by fed activities..WMC results mirror AGNC..if you look at efc's recent quarter ,the bulk of their income cam from the non-agency side...the other #yieldhog play is to go for the low volatility plays in m reit preferreds..take the 7.75% and avoid the volatility..fwiw..dave
  • Stormy: $EFC yes it is blowing out of a #squeeze. Careful. Loook at the volume. very low. That will keep me out of the stock. Prefer $AGNC TWO $NLY MTGE CIM. gOOD LUCK Stormy
  • davewells: EFC..definitely not chasing..i like and own the hybrids..IVR,$WMC,CYS,$AMTG with a little $AGNC on the side..but the guys at $EFC are good and this is a buy on a pullpack to 24.75 or so imho..dave
  • jan2138: $EFC @davewells: nice pop. I wish it were not an LLC generating a K-1.
  • davewells: CLF...seaking...agreed..a lot of bad news baked in this cake..probably the best news is that the underwriters should support the secondary for a few days...a dismount and swap into $VALE might be a way to go and stay exposed to any pickup in china...there is nothing good about a $1.6 billion loss..management wildly overpaid for something..imho..dave...all tahat said ,a big thank you to $EFC !!
  • dividend135: yield hogs $EFC 12.46 %, $JMI 14.60% jan what do you think of these
  • Wolf: Offering - $EFC also announced a 3.5M share offering at 22.45. Don't know the fundamentals of the company, but it is down 4.5% at 22.32 in premarket.
  • dwjflies: question I'm entering the hold but don't have an $EFC time yet.

  • Golf77: @bocatrader. You are a little late. If you buy it which I think you can you MUST use a tight STOP. I would think you should look at the following IPO's $XNY PRMW $EFC UNTK if you are looking at the IPO game. Most are primed and ready to go. Good luck. I bought XBY and UNTK
