  • vitoB: why the neck is $GFI down 5%?
  • scottrades: ...
I’d also like to bring your attention back to Gold. This is a space where you are better to buy near support levels but should be on your radar as we see the dollar continue to fall. $GDX is testing the underside of the 200 Day MA premarket. $ ...
  • maracom: @bigbartabs $GDX Big volume today too. I think we'll make it up to the 200week SMA around 32.5 on $GDX. $NEM the laggard outperforming today. $WPM $GFI looking really nice. I wish I could buy more but I'm wayyy overweight right now, I pretty much have half of my portfolio in #preciousmetals at the moment
  • maracom: Good morning all! Precious metals starting to heat up as we come to the end of interest rate increases, which could spell the end of the recent dollar rally. Not planning on adding any leveraged trades ($NUGT $GDX $GDXJ $WPM $GFI) just yet, but $GLD ...
  • maracom: @DavidK $GLD @DavidK $GLD I have the same overall outlook as @Ray. I hold $NEM in my #LTA because it pays decent dividends to wait, of which there is A LOT of waiting, and I'll often sell covered calls to generate more income. I trade $SLV $NUGT $WPM $GFI as my main trading vehicles when precious metals start to look spicy (they are NOT at the moment, especially with the dollar rallying). The main reason to own it is as a geopolitical hedge (rather than an inflation hedge, as gold historically is uncorrelated with dollar inflation during early inflation cycles, but it catches up towards the end of the cycles as all hell breaks loose geopolitically). I'm a secular bull on copper and #wheel $FCX in my #LTA for this purpose as well.
  • DavidK: @maracom $GLD $NEM $SLV $NUGT $WPM $GFI $FCX #LTA #wheel #LTA thanks for views .
  • maracom: Good morning everyone! $SPY $QQQ struggling after $NFLX. #gold pulling back hard today despite modest $UUP move. I've been buying $NEM which was much closer to support than the high flyers like $GFI $WPM. I've got one more buy left for $NEM but if $GFI and $WPM start pulling back hard I'll be a seller of naked puts. #LTA: $FCX covered call. $SCHW added yesterday. $MOS $FTI no changes. $WEAT pullback to 8EMA possible add. #Trading: Short $NVDA and 280/282.5 BeCS. $BITI possible add today. $SHOP stop at 8EMA. $UNG pullback to 8EMA/20EMA possible add. $BFLY covered call.
  • maracom: Pulling apart the top 10 components of the $GDX that are tradable in the US, the best performers that are approaching all time highs are: $FNV $WPM $GFI. The large miners $NEM and $GOLD are lagging compared to the midcap miners. The other midcap miners that are still playing catchup are: $PAAS $NCMGY $AU. $PAAS is also the largest holding in $GDXJ. The first three are too hot for me to handle right now, all greater than 25% away from the 50sma, but if the #gold move is real $NEM and $GOLD still have plenty of room to catch up. I'm selling a cash secured Apr $50 put to #wheel $NEM, and I'm taking a small starter in $GOLD as a mental health buy. Will watch the leaders for signs of a pullback to add.
  • vitoB: Hello hello. Spent some time lookin at mining stocks after the Friday pop. List includes, $GDXJ $FNV $WPM $AG $AU $GFI $KGC $ $GOLD $NEM… Chart with the longest base and best close on Fri seemed to be $AG. $WPM second, and $GFI had a huge move but actually didn’t close very nice, a move above Fri high for this one to me. And actually $GDXJ looked better than most of the large holding charts oddly enough. Any one else ?
  • Bert953: @vitoB $KGC Hmmmmmm, the move was Friday. Seems to me more likely to have a consolidating day. I saw news this am about $AEM $AUY $GFI $PAAS in a bidding conflict on CNBC.com premarket movers. Lets be careful out there.
  • vitoB: @Bert953 $KGC $AEM $AUY $GFI $PAAS i hear ya, but this has earnings in two days, on my screen. with a couple days short ratio and the dollar coming down, ,just feels like there's some juice left. closed at 3.86 and a couple more pennies i'll know its wrong
  • vitoB: @vitoB $SNAP also $UGL feels great...miners would have felt better. $GFI $AU $SAND all big winners. im in $UGL until next week....also $QID as a hedge on the $SNAP trade
  • vitoB: Looking at the miners, as the 'store of value, inflation hedge' stops on BTC. Gold might continue its bid here. Gold is down now but miners were green on Friday. $SAND $GOLD $AU $AEM $GFI. ,$NEM. $SAND is my favorite of the group.
  • vitoB: $GFI, missedthe recovery yesterday, this would be day 3. 10.50 in the cards. ...if Brainard doesnt take a dump on the positivity
  • vitoB: $GFI tough day for anyone long. but I'm inclined to say this is a huge over rxn. Rxn to the buying of $AUY. so taking on a lot of debt from a commodity company on a day where the market seems to be trying to price in "peak inflation". ill be all over this after the 3 day rule. this cant stay down like this for long, but ive been trying to buy these plummets the last 2 months and hasnt worked. so look back after 3 days, or wait for two open green candles, then starter. np
  • snowbound: $GFI Ode to Scott , the brothers that are no longer with us . An interesting possibility here climbing above the 50SMAd . Its still in set up . ( I can't help but wonder , what would Scott say ? ) swingsters ? ...
  • snowbound: $GFI small entry marked at the 50SMAd . My thesis is that Scott's initial thesis had merit ... this is its second attempt to escape the channel but now starting closer to base support ~ 50 .
  • snowbound: $GFI Nice rise into the channel with plenty of markers to trade along . This is a channel trade until it isn't ( Scott ! )
  • veghead: @snowbound $GFI Nice work staying on this.

  • spmeyers: @issues $GSS $GFI $EXK $SVM $EGO $KGC $GOLD $WPM $LODE I'm not sure the CEO of a gold miner is the most trustworthy source! :)
  • issues: I watched this 16 minute video on gold and why it's going to be a great long term play. It's an interview that the X22 report did with David Garofalo CEO of Goldcorp; "Gold Is A Barometer Of Fiat Currency,We Are Experiencing The Return To The Gold Standard:D Garofalo" https://youtu.be/qdBy-Ao24Vk for some reason this link doesn't work. So just google this: Gold Is A Barometer Of Fiat Currency,We Are Experiencing The Return To The Gold Standard:D Garofalo Then I did some research on IBD to find these potentials: $GSS $GFI $EXK $SVM $EGO (buying tomorrow 100 shares) We own $KGC and $GOLD and $WPM and many others. But I just wanted others to have some input into what gold/silver stocks they like best. (I eliminated $LODE, but some of you might like it best!)

  • scottto_2: I remain on the hunt for low risk entries. I screened for stocks that, in spite of the overall market flush, had a higher low versus yesterday. A lot of Usual Suspects showed up and a few that maybe we should know about. Anyhow, here they are FWIW (I left out Healthcare, Biotech Dreamers and anything under 5 bucks): $AEM $AGI $AU $BE $BILL $CCH $CEF $CLX $DG $DOCU $DOYU $DPZ $DRD $EA $FIVN $FNV $GFI $GRUB $HUYA $KR $NLS $NOMD $NTES $OCFT $OKTA $PDD $PFSI $PVG $RGLD $SAND $SCPL $SERV $SSRM $TCO $TDOC $VAPO $VIRT $VNET $W $ZM Looks like there are some potential entries here with stops below today's intraday low. Also several are buttressed by significant support at major moving averages, also providing a logical stop for a trade. Happy hunting. Would love to know any ideas that people come up with. Thanks. Scott

I will repeat in the morning as I'm sure there are a lot of us who don't watch the forum much after the market closes. Be well.

I added to my $VGZ position on the pullback and bounce from below the upper bollinger band. I bought $GFI on the bounce off the 20 for my gold stock with "yield" in my high-yielding portfolio. 1.5-2% is the best I could find on a gold stock yield. $NEM is another to play.

  • jververis: Gold: Hearing everyone to buy gold this past week and weekend. Well I have bought $SVM, $GFI, $NSU, $AU, $AUY, $CDE, $PAAS, $NGD, NXG in the past two weeks. Despite gold prices increasing these equities prices are falling. Will they catch up or is there a disconnect between the price of gold and the equities?? Thanks, John

  • claudiohbpeg: Platinum & @Cmac - Thanks for the hints, and btw I was really involved in making money and I must say that (till now) is the best performance I had in 20 years. My bet on gold/@silver sector with $CDE,EGO,$GFI,GSS,$IAG,NXG,$SLW has and had an AMAZING net return.

Onto the markets...Gold is nice again today back to $960 (+4) it is just edging its way back to 1000 slowly but surely. I remain long $GFI and $AUY in this space. As an aside, I'm also long $TCK September $27 calls. Oil is up again which makes $U ...
  • TricKy1: Iv'e heard that there is more risk involved if you deal with the miners because you never know whats going to happen when your digging in the ground. Cave ins, ground water probably whole bunch of bad stuff that can happen. $AUY and $GFI were two stocks that looked interesting in my list of gold stocks to watch. $SSRI had a similiar pattern but its mostly @silver.
  • Suzie: @tradercraig: Hi there and welcome to Mentorville! I am buying gold on pullbacks to major moving averages. So if you are thinking about starting a position I'd look first to the $940 level where the 50day and the 10day moving averages converge. I would also note on my $GOLD chart that all of the moving averages are pointing UP. I trade gold via $GFI, $GLD & AUY. And I watch the gold futures (as I do with all of my commodity trades) for an indication of direction. Some fun "little guys" out there for quickie moves, but my gold thesis is a longer term one (since Feb) and I like to stay closest to the vehicles that rise and fall with the actual price of gold.
  • claudiohbpeg: Gold & @Silver - NYU Professor Roubini says deflation biggest short-term risk, inflation to become issue in medium-term unless policy adjusted; U.S. may need another fiscal stimulus by the end of the year - Reuters Increased my position in the space at 58% of my porfolio $CDE 30% $AUY 16% $GFI 12% About $CDE I strongly suggest to follow aall recent news.
  • Suzie: I am long $GFI common (longer term position).
  • dogslife: Suzie - $GFI - thanks for the suggestion. ~@dogslife
  • Suzie: GOLD: http://tiny.cc/UYCho I remain long $GFI it is a long term position. Also long AUY. Both of these are covered call positions and I've had them since April or so. NOT trading these, simply accumulating. Im a gold bull. @Silver too.
  • Suzie: GOLD: I think it has a nice base at 925 and I continue to accumulate on weakness. I'm using $GFI, currently a covered call position. Might as well get paid to wait. In some of the other accounts I trade I also have positions in $AUY and GLD. All of the accounts have some exposure to gold (and also @silver). http://tiny.cc/PsQzK
  • claudiohbpeg: Gold & @Silver - For tax problems I am unable to trade ETFs so I placed myself with $CDE (@silver) & $AUY and $GFI (gold) actually those position are the 40% of my portfolio. All the opinions regarding those companies are very, very welcome!
  • claudiohbpeg: $GFI - choice come from this relation... http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/2772/usrand.jpg The uptrend seems pretty stable and strong
  • Suzie: I have been long $GFI for awhile now. I like the company and the chart.
  • Gabe: Slow consolidation day. Went to the local Lowe's to get some things, it's nearly empty. Not a good sign. Not feeling the urge to enter trades before the close. $AU, $EGO, $IAG, $GFI near possible entry points, but I'd like to see them hold the support first, so I'm waiting. New low in $SKF, but not a new high in XLF. Not the first time that I notice that the ultras tend to "overshoot" to hit the stops. A bit suspicious, isn't it? All this tells me is that I better stick with the regular $ETF even when going short. Have a good weekend!
  • Suzie: Russ, On the subject of why $GDX performs differently GLD: $GLD holds 33,802,801 ounces of gold. $GDX is a compilation of equities the two largest holdings being $ABX and G.TO (Goldcorp). That makes $GLD a purer play vs. $GDX as there are no other fundamental factors affecting the price. $GLD simply moves with the price of gold. $GDX has to worry about what's going on with $ABX (they just had a 4Q loss announced on Friday). The top 10 holdings of $GDX are: $AU, $ABX, $GFI, G.TO (GG), $HMY, K.TO (KGC), LIHR, $NEM, and GOLD. Here is my take on the $AUY chart: http://tinyurl.com/anmd8g
  • milt: In this crashing of gold, $GFI is up. amazing it is not making a new low. smart management to announce increase production estimates today. This is a very confusing time for precious metals.
  • evanesce: Hi Team, for those interested in gold miners and related stocks, this is earnings week for the sector. For the big names, $GG reported this morning and is up +3%. Tomorrow is AAUK and $ABX in the morning, $GOLD GSS $KGC after the close. Wednesday is quiet, I'll look at $KWK in the morning. Thursday has $AEM after market. Friday we'll see $GFI (don't know when). With ForEx concerns, technical levels and fundamentals all in play this week, I'll be maintaining my usual short-term outlook. Best wishes to all.
  • bpeter: GOLD: I've been checking out the charts on some Gold stocks. While some are struggling having bounced yet again off their recent lows, $GFI at 14.13 is in a (weak?) uptrend.

  • bpeter: I'm not fond of $GFI, but thought it looked more positive than the others.
  • johnknox: @Dan, @Tim Seymour likes the South African company $GFI which has been affected by the electricity problems. I did a quick analysis of the gold stocks and noted $GFI was down 25% from its high while most other Gold Miners were down around 11%. I feel this was due to temporary external rather than internal factors. The stock was also on support at 13.5, so I bought some.
  • Mary153: $POT, SIGM. Sold half my $POT calls earlier. Watching SIGM. Still or again. Suzie, any thoughts, feelings? Buying opp? BB bands getting closer together. Maybe less volatile for a while? 4 bucks is quite a move.(@Smita, I'm not worried about you! I'm sure you've been booking profits all the way up!) Anyone have any thoughts on $GFI (@Tim Seymour pick last night.)
  • ymorrell: Curtis, I can't advise you on an entry point but if you want to play gold you might also look at the miners. $GFI broke out of its downward trend today with good volume and closed above the 20DMA. I'm long $GLD as well.
  • edfiggy: ...
Overall, the other majors have not performed, with $NEM and $GFI pulling bad spot margins and production numbers. This should lead to increased $ABX interest. The bad is that $ABX has 9.5M oz's hedged at around $400/oz. I wish $ABX would pay this of ...
