Keep an eye on Gold and $GLD is opening back above the 200 Day MA. $GDX has been perky as well. Stocks like $WPM $PAAS $GOLD $NEM $FNV and $AEM have come sharply off the lows but I think are worth watching.

- maracom: Pulling apart the top 10 components of the $GDX that are tradable in the US, the best performers that are approaching all time highs are: $FNV $WPM $GFI. The large miners $NEM and $GOLD are lagging compared to the midcap miners. The other midcap miners that are still playing catchup are: $PAAS $NCMGY $AU. $PAAS is also the largest holding in $GDXJ. The first three are too hot for me to handle right now, all greater than 25% away from the 50sma, but if the #gold move is real $NEM and $GOLD still have plenty of room to catch up. I'm selling a cash secured Apr $50 put to #wheel $NEM, and I'm taking a small starter in $GOLD as a mental health buy. Will watch the leaders for signs of a pullback to add.

- maracom: @manoli77 $PAAS I've owned PAAS in the past. It's about 1/10th the market cap of $NEM $FNV and 1/5 the size of something like $WMP. The smaller you get in the gold miners space the more volatile it can be based on operations. I owned them when they shut down one mining shaft due to a ventilation problem and the stock lost like 20% in two days. I do still have tiny positions (like 0.5% of my portfolio) in a smattering of small miners but that is pure speculation in hopes for an acquisition offer. My approach now is to go with individual miners if they offer a great dividend like $NEM, otherwise I prefer an index like $GDXJ to get additional leverage on small miners (as opposed to going with individual smaller operations). Or just stick with $SLV which is leading the precious metal complex anyways. Or $NUGT for short trades

- maracom: @agiaccag $GLD $GDX #gold I have large long term positions gold, silver, and the miners, and they have different purposes in my portfolio. I think of $GLD as a long term store of value against inflation, along with $NEM which I hold for the dividend. I booked some profits on both at the top of the cup, and recently bought some back now that we're forming a handle. I do sell short term calls against my $GLD to make it into a more productive asset. Be aware that good news in Ukraine could be very bad for gold. I also hold $SLV and $PAAS for a more short term speculative trades. I trade these much more actively.

- maracom: @agiaccag $GLD $GDX $NEM $SLV $PAAS #gold Selling covered calls takes some practice. You'll generally want to do it on a green day when it's approaching resistance, and you'll want to be sure you're ok with limiting your upside. Covered calls are good when the stock is sleepy/in consolidation. I don't recommend them during times of increased volatility, especially since those are the periods when gold really proves its worth
