There are several application and infrastructure stocks that look perky. $DV $PD $NOW $WDAY (bit late) $WIX (credit to traderben) $MDB There is an obscure part of the Dow theory that says you can’t move any goods until you have bought the box to ship them in. So, watch the packaging sector to see if it argues for good news (iX1290 in TC2000.) I bought a small amount of $SEE to test the theory.

  • Bridget: @Aragorn $SEE You're right, what's not to like... This has just been riding the upper bollinger band in a nice steady uptrend. We are about to see a golden cross on the daily. But it is starting to get a bit extended on the weekly chart. Perhaps wait to see it pullback a little close r to the 20DMA before getting in or adding.

  • Bridget: $SEE gapped up, then pulled back, and is now moving higher. I think this is a great buy point. The weekly chart is turning up so I would be looking at a longer term hold (at least a month). The option spreads also aren't too bad if you would prefer calls over buying the stock. My stop is the low of today and my profit target is $48 (200DMA).

I am still holding 26.0 short puts. Personally, I don't make complicated trades. I do spreads, strangles, and plain selling of puts and calls. If I see something is not working, I don't hedge it and try to ameliorate the loss. One of this sites best saying's is, DON'T LOSE YOUR MONEY, AND DON'TAKE BIG LOSSES. This is the second day of the 3 day rule, I would expect another day of declines tomorrow which would bring mdr into a really nice buyable level just above or around the 20 dma. I would be starting a position there when i $SEE a bounce, not when I Expect a bounce. I would suggest if you can handle the pain of the losses, wait till then and then add. If not, get out but look to get in around the 20 dma IFF(if and only if) it bounces.

  • jimbo: Oversold Bounce - @Dan doesn't trade pre/post market so I would say nope to that. He also advises that you wait at least 15 minutes before trading to see the actual price action. Even in an oversold situation like we THINK we are in(we don't $KNOW that the mkt is oversold until we $SEE the bounce)we cannot be sure until we actually see what takes place. I guess that is one area that I struggle with, determining if a trading range is changing (but more likely, I occasionally $SEE a new range forming when there isn't one). I think I'll go look at charts of $SID in E*Trade Pro to try to get a feel for what I might have seen, rather than on @Dan's Telechart screen. Thanks for your insight!

  • evanesce: @Dan, the sub-group of packaging industries has a bit of strength too (these came up on a personal Telechart scan). Interesting charts include $BMS PKG PTV SEE, and maybe also $GPK NTIC. Yesterday I happened across two Bemis containers, one for food and one of those huge annoying blister packs that have to be sliced open with a Bowie knife. $SEE, Sealed Air, makes bubble wrap and we go through a lot of that too. This seems to be an unloved and largely overlooked sector with a few decent performers. As expected there are a lot of laggards there too. One caught my eye as a potential short, GRF. I have had decent luck when a stock charges up then rolls over, but because I'm expecting near-term relief in the overall markets this would not be a prudent time for me to start a short position (per your Three-Day Rule).
