  • ryanj: Long $NUGT, $JNUG, $USLV, $UGLD, $SJT.
  • champ: $UGAZ - $SJT - Weather forecast is still the same .... with the cold front moving in on Monday....sold on the close yesterday ...back in @$16.46...look's like its on sale now..$UGAZ. I'm thinking sometime today this should recover and start climbing....its trying RHRN.
  • champ: $UGAZ - $SJT - Just want to put this out again so you can have it on your Radar ...on www.weather.com you can view this Cold Monster Storm that is going to hit the US starting on Sunday - Monday and get worst every day after that ...for the next 7 or so days they are saying ...this is really BIG ...take a look and see what you think. This might be your only good entry before it hits. I don't think to many traders even know about this.
  • champ: $UGAZ - Climbing on next weeks weather forecast....going to have cold weather hit on Monday and really move in by Wednesday. Also have $SJT which is a little safer ...adding on both. Watching the weather forecast with tight stops.
  • champ: $SJT Trust - I got in this N-Gas stock RHRN...colder weather is now moving in across the US. Natural Gas is now $4.27 ...up $0.45 in 5 days and should keep climbing back to the 52 week high of $5.09 or higher. This stock pays a 7.37% dividend while you wait.
  • champ: @hwyflier $UGAS and $BOIL - Yes, I like both of these stocks for swing trades. $SJT is a little safer trade ...doesn't jump around as much. Thanks
  • woodman: Medical Appliances - I looked at medical appliances and equipment over the weekend (before I listened to @DAN's video, so I didn't even know he was covering some in this sector too). Some that look interesting to me (for different reasons) are: $BSX, $SJT, $NXTM, $RMD, $MDXG and MDCI.
  • Martin L: $SJT Is a royalty trust heavily tied to natural gas properties. Chart looks promising, maybe an indicator of a turn around in nat gas prices!
  • brodyborder: Nat Gas - agree with jojo on $UNG - other #options include $ECA, $SWN, $SJT, $HGT, $SM $SWN and $ECA have already moved big, LaurieAnn has posted several times on SWN. $SJT and $HGT are trusts that haven't moved as fast and have nice dividends. $SJT has recovered very quickly from earlier drops. Long $ECA and SJT.
  • chris@yorke: PCX, $ACI, $HGT, $SJT, $RRC, $CHK, $SWN - Question: Separate from what #transports may do, is it possible that oversupply in the nat gas market from shale gas is the cause also of depressed coal prices (they serve common markets). Can oversupply and resulting price drop be separate from an improving economic picture, or even the cause for the #transports to continue to going up - cheaper energy prices begets an economic boost. Also, the gas royalty trusts $HGT and $SJT, do any SMM know other causes than oversupply for the precipitous drop of these two interests? Thx.
  • brodyborder: $UNG, $SJT, $DMLP - As @firebird noted, $UNG is susceptible to backwardation and contango issues. $SJT and $DMLP are a couple of trusts that might be interesting ways to play a longer term bullish natural gas thesis. I've owned $SJT for a while. My initial purchase was around $22 in mid 2009. It has been relatively stable (although it spiked down and back up again last week) and offers a yield over 6%. I haven't tracked it closely, but $DMLP seemed to be a little more volatile, but offers a similar yield. They don't qualify as yield hogs, but I think they offer significant upside potential if natural gas plays catch up to the other energy commodities and pays a decent yield while you wait. Similar to the yield hogs, though, I'd look for a good entry.
  • jan2138: @crank: MLP's are different than Can. Royalty Trusts. The MLP's we discuss are all US based and not subject to the goings on in Canada. $SJT, not one I would be interested in because the yield is less than 6%, but I took a quick look at the original prospectus when it was created back in 1980. I suspect it is a liquidating trust with no new assets being acquired. However, the assets in the trust were, and I suspect still, massive so, I don't suspect they will be depleted anytime soon. It is a US Royalty Trust and not affected by Canadian law. Go to the website and look up the prospectus and take a look to get the details.
  • Cirak: $SJT - I am watching this one, I love watching it crawl upper bollinger band to the winner's circle. I just have no idea what to do?!? Nibble, wait for it, ?
  • Cirak: $SJT - I like the shift to nat gas story and I am looking for an entry point here. I will study some more to see if I should nibble. Also, watching ECA
  • Cirak: $APC, $CHK, $SJT, anyone looking at any natural gas plays. I like the story.
  • kens: dkt - I'm holding Mo $T PBT and $SJT for divd. Also $EMC, $CSCO, $HPQ and $AAPL because they are the future and will never go to zero. Almost everything else (about 20 positions) will be sold during the next 2 trading sessions. I was 30% cash on 4/30. This is really hard, since I have held some of the to be sold for 3-4 years, but following DANs discipline there is no reason to hold dead money. Ken
  • richard9f: Oil & Gas mlp's Went through these last night. The more liquid names have been selling off and have come back to to the 50ema, which have been good buy points: $EPD, $KMP, PGH. Some of the less liquid names are just starting to pull back from recent highs and are still above their 10emas: $EVEP, $HEP, $SJT, WPZ. The best chart I saw was NGLS. A less liquid llp, but look at the repeatable pattern of pulling back to the 50ema and then pinching and popping.
  • chengsu.2005: $SJT - @Dan, Could you comment on this pattern? I sold half position at 22.5 since it was near prior resistance, and it kept running higher. Anything wrong with my thinking? The breakout comes with higher volatility, would you wait on pullback to buy this? Cheng
  • MakinBux: $SJT - Hi All, I wanted to run this "Yield Hog" by y'all and see what you think. I did not see this one on the list. It currently yields 9.8% and is up almost 5% today as of this posting. Thanks
  • buckos: $SJT - @MakinBux: I own $SJT and like the company and the stock. It went thru some tough times awhile back, but doing well now.
  • crank: SJT---any thoughts from the High Yielder's on an entry point here for $SJT ?? Thank you
  • TDAdams: $SJT Yield Hogs...keep an eye on San Juan Trust. Looks to me like this one is approaching, maybe at, the bottom of its channel. Low risk entry right here perhaps? Mgmnt has announced that the April distribution will go to shareholders of record as of March. 31. Possible catalyst. http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=SJT&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p12788415706&a=195243868
  • DragonFly: $SJT - I wonder why $PWE has such a following when $SJT has a higher yield and is not subject to Canadian taxes?? any thoughts? @DragonFly
  • TDAdams: $SJT no clue. maybe PWE's assets are thought to be longer-lived? I don't really know but maybe $PWE is into the oil sands development up in Alberta.
  • buckos: $EVEP - Just picked up some $EVEP here at $30.89. I also own $KMP, LINE, $PWE and $SJT in the "higher yield" area.
  • snorrisi: $SJT Another high yielder (ca. 8%) that might be breaking out. I am not in yet and would appreciate feedback from the trading veterans...
  • blsachs: $UNG has many faults (regulatory issues, does not track the price of nat. gas very well, etc.) . Use the nat. gas stocks to play nat. gas theme. If you're more aggressive check out $APA, $UPL, XTO, $ECA, $HAL, APC. I hold a small positon in UPL. If you're more conservative, consider some of the nat. gas trust that pay a high #dividend like $SJT and there are several others but I'm not very familiar with them. I'm sure there are many here that have a comprehensive list
  • orthodoc: @Dan, @Bob, others: $FLO Looks like a good #squeeze, do you ever anticipate a breakout for these kind of charts, and buy just above resistance? I bought some at 22.5, near the low, and plan to add more on breakout, but with tight stops. Does anyone know why $SJT is trading so low, while other oil/pipe trusts are trading up? thanks
  • orthodoc: ...
    I'm long $URS, $PWR, SGR, $BPT, $SJT, $PCG, $CWT, $MWA, $HIL, $VMC, $GLD, and $TIP

Have added/subtracted back and forth with these with taking some profits earlier and adding back a little on pullbacks, except hold $GLD and $TIP as medium term pl ...
  • orthodoc: Bought $SJT close to 24 (recent lows 50dma ahead; would like to add more, but also would like to sell if 50dma turns into resistance $MWA had nice move today but on unspectacular volume; since infrastructure I left it alone, although wonder if I should have sold some; will put in stop after morning tomorrow on half that is closer to current price to protect some profit
  • Ian: ...
Somebody mentioned the US and Canadian petroleum trusts yesterday. My guess is that they have stabilized but aren't moving up because the market is waiting to see what their real dividends are going to look like. EROC shows a 27.3% #dividend which ...
  • bogart72: Not sure which ones @Dan looks at , but here are a few to get you started. Some among these are not Canadian MLPs. @TPP, $BPL, $OKS, $SJT, $EEP, $PWE, HTE
  • Ian: If the Energy sector looks like its moving up, then the Petroleum Trusts are probably coming out of the basement. The following are worth watching: American $AAV Advantage 14.20% #dividend $BPT BP Prudoe Bay 12.60% $CRT Cross Timbers 12.5% EROC Eagle Energy 11.90% $HGT Hugoton 13.80% $PBT Permian Basin 14.10% $SBR Sabine 13.20% $SJT San Juan Basin 10.80% Canadian (small amount of Canadian tax withheld on foreigners) $BTE Baytex 10.7% HTE Harvest 18.40% $PGH Pengrowth 14.10% PVX Provident 13.80% Some look they have broken a downward spiral and other still have to prove that their trend is different. $BPT, $BTE, HUG and $SJT have the best weekly charts. Tight stops. The dividends are no good if the stock price drops. @Ian
  • Boo: $UNG is sinking into the silt and $SJT is still strong. Hilarious. Are buyers aware that the monthly Div. was based on June gas prices and the stock they buy today will based on July? Denny Gartman is still pumping this RT. Of course he was pumping it when every Indian tribe in the SW US had a pending suit against it that went in their favor. The next monthly #dividend should make $SJT drop dead gorgeous.

  • strasse: Yachts, Thanks for all your work and contributions to the group! I'm sure you have nothing more to do than post here. ;) said with tongue in cheek. Because of your comments earlier in January I took some time to seek out some nice #dividend paying stocks to add to my portfolio: ENP (8%); $EXC (2.6); $RAI (5.4); $SBW (8.6); $SJT (7.3) and a currency based mutual fund, MERKX. Your offer to help us is greatly appreciated, but as is always the case each should do his or her own due diligence on any of these. So thank you for your words of caution, and YES, I am always interested in what a Professional (you) has to say! Diana
  • Ray: Hi Suzie --- I trade more around Natural Gas, and opened a position several days ago in $SJT
  • suzie76040: $SJT - San Juan Basin? I show that as a financial services...
  • Ray: Hi Suzie - $SJT is San Juan Basin Royalty Trust. It pays a monthly cash distribution based on production for the previous month. Two other Natural Gas stocks I've seen mentioned here before are $SWN and CHK. I have been out of those for awhile, but I still keep them on my radar screen.
  • suzie76040: @Ray: $SJT has been in consolidation since March. That's a pretty long time. What made it tank in December? I smell nervousness in the market. I have a scratch and sniff computer :)
