  • Margi1983: $BDX This is really moving up after a massive drop first thing on earnings, which frankly beat expectations, but the market sold it off anyway. Long with a nice 4.5% profit after 2 hours

  • Tango: Dan, I am a newbie. How can I set a stop, and not get stopped out, with vast gaps like this between the bid and ask. See attachment. $BDX as example.
  • Henry: @Tango $BDX That's the after market trading bid and ask. That's a normal spread in after hours. Normally stops aren't in effect in the after hours. But you see the reason not to place a market order if you are trading after hours. During the day on a $250 stock the spread probably won't be more than 10-15 cents
  • Tango: @Henry $BDX Thanks Henry, you just saved me a nice chuck of change!
  • Henry: @Tango $BDX I believe in TOS it is possible to set a stop in the extended session. I would never do that.

  • Hackberry: $BDX Starting to poke up from squeeze
  • TD: $BDX @ $143 - There are very few weekly charts more constructive than this one right now - a weekly squeeze, tightest in years (4.7% weekly compression, very rare) in close proximity to a high 40 week average, weekly stochastics having just turned up from oversold (was first tag in months); also constructive in daily timeframe, recent breakout of touch and go multi-month downtrend, textbook retest pullback to test top of old down channel, now coiling for upside move that would launch a weekly upside expansion (upper weekly band currently $145 1/2). Very much like $HBI back in early February in the weekly time frame. The train is close to leaving the station. Very close. Earnings July 29.

  • debeers: AZN/BMY-Article in today's LA times quoting British researchers.Diabetes patients w/ an average of 220 lbs were put on a 600 cal diet consisting of broccoli, asparagus and cabbage for 6 weeks were tested at the end of that time and found to be diabetes free as the pancreatic fat had decreased from 8-6%.Even after 1 week sugar levels were normal. The patients lost an average of 38 pounds. The researcher's explanation was that the extra pancreatic fat impaired the body's ability to produce and use insulin. IMHO If other institutions like, for example, the Cleveland clinic could reproduce these results, this would severely impair $NVO which gets the larest share of revenue from diabetes drugs and probably also crimp $BDX revenue severely.
  • jan2138: DBY: complicated is putting it mildly. Also, very illiquid. These are medium term notes which mature 7/30/11. Because of the reduction of the net entitlement amount by 10% each year, the value of the $BDX index must increase significantly in order to get your 10.00 back if you bought as a new issue. Obviously, with where it is trading now, the $BDX index has lagged. If you can figure out what the current par value is based on that index, you might have an interesting short term play here. But, my guess is that you will not. There is one .07c #dividend left and you'd be paying $5.68 to get it. So, it all depends on what that final par value will be and if you can figure it out, good luck. There are other situations out there which pay 14% and are easier to understand.

  • wachholder: $BDX, with the way medial devices has been trading, see $ISRG I figured Becton Dickinson, $BDX would also follow suit, and sure enough it broke though a technical barrier and looks to be headed higher. The v recovery is only about a 7% move from it low. A pullback and positive move off the $80 figure is a clear buy signal for me.

  • jojo1480: ABT- i think under Obama care the device makers were the most penalize, with the Rep. in charge of the House, there will no funding to implement those draconian legislations, so i was thinking of the device maker as a play in 2011. On my radar $ABT BEC $BDX TMO and A. Long TMO

  • cgendro1: Can someone explain why consumer discretionary is performing so well? I would think that if global recession let alone the U.S. recession is in play, that this sector wouldn't be doing well at all. I am also wondering aloud if the momentum traders will be going to consumer staples and healthcare sectors. It seems as if healthcare is attracting them. Thanks Lastly, I picked up some $PG earlier this morning. The drop in oil should benefit them. Also added to MDT. I am following $BDX but haven't done anything Managed care stocks are also doing well. Of course, they have been killed. I was in this business and have a hard time thinking of a buy here. Medical cost ratios are difficult at best. Pricing in a recessionary environment is dicey which then leads to membership issues. Anyone have thoughts there?
