- debeers: IRE-Well, faith and begorrah, @DANny, I think you might be right. Listened to the conference call this am from $IRE and here's what i learned: It borrowed 4.8 Billion Euros and paid back 6Billion. They are profitable and are generating capital. Land values and business borrowing increasing in a country that still has 12% unemployment which #Greece would probably kill for. WYNN-record revenues on the New Year. Also will add on pb as these are pretty few and far between.

- Bilbo: AIB Allied Irish Bank is majority government owned - taken over when it failed. A few shares are in non government hands. Google it for more details. $IRE is part owned by the Irish government and working to become fully independent again. Both are making losses due to level of mortgage default which is at a high level.

- DragonFly: $IRE - Bank Of Ireland chart looks a lot like BAC. When Ireland did not get the downgrade expected the stock has been moving up. Looks to be coming out of a #squeeze, top bands was at $4.45 and bottom band at $4.22, that's pretty tight! I'm watching for the pull back to get in. Long term lotto ticket.

- Bilbo: EU AIB and IRE. Note that AIB was effectively nationalized - 92.8% Irish government owned. $IRE is 36% government owned with a share sale imminent. If this fails government could own up to 70%. Share price has plummeted in recent years with major shareholder losses. Not for the faint hearted. No current positions but previously burnt - that was my learning curve and one of the reasons I joined SMM. Wary European banks.

- jng369: Badly beaten down stocks. I wrote a filter to scan for all stocks which has been beaten down at least 70% stocks. With an recovering economy, I think that those stocks are probably ready to recover some of their lost as well. Even if they can recover 20% of their lost by the end of the year, that is a very sizable gain. This is the list that I am going to work on today and tomorrow to find some bargains.
