  • Peppermint: @issues Agreeing about using stops on uptrending stocks. I raised stops on the following today as part of my position analysis. $DXCM, $EA, $LEG, $LTXB, $MHLD,$RE, $RDY. All with nice gains and good uptrends. $DXCM has been on a tear. I am a believer in the company because my daughter has type 1 diabetes and loves their CGM (continuous glucose monitor). $MHLD also pays a good dividend. $RE and $RDY are both long term holds for me with very large gains. I tend to be an intermediate to long term trader and like to hold onto my winners. I have a set of rules I follow strictly on dumping losers. Broke my own rules on some gold and oil stocks though and am paying for it.

  • Forexpro: Re: $LEG Hi, Friends, Another scan brought this to the top of the list. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, so to speak, but it reached a support level (42) held it, and is now moving higher, while the stochastics remain deeply oversold. There is large (10k)open interest in the Feb 45 puts, presumably long, with volume of 2,500 showing. The bid/ask is 1.75/2/25; get your tank and drive on through. Still, it looks to have some potential upside, and if the long puts are forced to cover, it could get even more intriguing. The expected move in the Feb puts is 2.75. All the best!

  • DrScience: $LEG #Yieldhog-like trade... The JUN 30 Covered Call idea from 2/07 is still working. Carole King's song "Anticipation" comes to mind in looking at how the Q1 report was received -- probably the reason the stock just kept climbing from our ...
  • DrScience: $LEG The JUN 30 Covered Call idea from 2/07 is working well. Probably should have gone to a higher strike initially, as the stock has moved almost $3 higher. Evidently, investors had no respect for the 200 DMA. :) Stock is trading at the top of the current range, and money flow is turning negative, so it looks like the stock will continue to trade sideways into earnings. I would expect any company-specific weakness to move the stock back down to the bottom of the range around 31.50, and the 200 DMA should provide a floor at 30.50. So, there's really nothing to do but hold what we got through earnings ate EOM (4/28).

  • GOOSE: $LEG @DrScience $BTO JUN 30 Covered Call??? Buy To Open?? Never heard of this kind of trade. What year? My option quotes only go up to Sept 2014. Please clarify. Have a great day. @GOOSE OK, as @gmb109 points out $BTO refers to the stock, but I don't see that premium anywhere.
  • davidm: $LEG @GOOSE Looks like the JUN14 30 strike would work out about right.
  • GOOSE: $LEG @ scotto I understand that, but it just wasn't clear. I do this trade all the time with my COVERED COMBO's ; >)
  • GOOSE: $LEG @scotto @DavidM OK, OK, now I get it. @DrScience wrote in option shorthand. When I read it, I thought the premium was 28.50, so thought the year would be 2015 or 2016. I'm not going to pretend to give @DrScience lessons in #options, because he is the Pacific Ocean, compared to my babbling brook, but I would have written it, $LEG BTO STOCK @ 28.50, $STO JUN 30 2014 Covered Call. Was I the only one confused? Seems so. Apologies @DrScience. ; >)
  • gmb109: @GOOSE - @ $LEG - that was my question, posted earlier. I believe you are correct in how you see it, but it was confusing to the likes of myself also, therefore the question. Got it now.
  • GOOSE: $LEG @gmb109 Glad I wasn't the only one confused, I would have felt so stupid. ; >) Have a great weekend.
  • DrScience: $LEG @gmb109 Not to be too wordy... Yes. :) A covered call is a basic option strategy - means buying 100 shares of stock and selling a call against the stock. You have to own stock to collect the #dividend.

    This is a well-established company as ...
  • MultiMill: $LEG @GOOSE - I got the covered call part, but what does this mean: For you Combo Mambo traders, $STO JUN 30 Put @ 1.90 for a kicker to the trade. If you are going to sell a Put to generate some more cash, isn't usually at a lower strike price than the covered call?
  • GOOSE: $LEG @MultiMill Everybody's trying to confuse me this morning. ; >) I am not sure what you are referring to. The " kicker to the trade" quote, is unfamiliar to me, but not denying I wrote it. But, yes, Puts, COMBO or not are USUALLY written at a strike below the stock price. However, from time to time, if a stock is at say, 12.75, and I think it is going to close at expiration at a higher price, then I would be inclined to, $STO XYZ FEB 2014 13.00 PUTS @ A.BC, for the higher premium. If this isn't your answer, direct me to where you saw, "for a kicker to the trade", and maybe I'll have a better answer for you. @GOOSE Reread your post, and kicker etc, may mean, more premium, because you will collect two premiums, instead of one.
  • MultiMill: $LEG - @GOOSE - I was quoting @DrScience from his first post on $LEG this morning. I didn't understand why his covered call and his Put strikes were the same. Since you 'own' the combo mambo trades, I asked you.
  • GOOSE: $LEG @MultiMill Yes!, that's what the good @DrScience means, do the put too, and turn the trade into a COMBO MAMBO, for two premiums, sort of double your premium, double your fun.
  • GOOSE: $LEG @MultiMill I answered why I would do it in an earlier post today, but I don't know why @DrScience suggested the 30.0 put strike as the "kicker".
  • DrScience: $LEG @GOOSE Sorry for your confusion and that it took so long to get back to you. I should have spelled out the mechanics of the trade for the less-option oriented traders among us. The reason we use the "BTO XYZ Covered Call @ ???" notation, rather than the two-part notation you suggest, is to show that the Covered Call is entered as a single transaction. This is because most brokers charge a single commission for Covered Call trades, and we all like lower fees, er... Right?
  • GOOSE: $LEG @DrScience I do a lot of trading, and learning something all the time, as I wasn't aware about the notation you used being for, "entering on one ticket", even though I enter all my COVERED COMBOS on one ticket. And, yes, we all like lower fees. ; >) Thanks for getting back to me.
  • SeaKingA: $LEG @Goose, et al, isn't what Dr. Science described a covered call that got converted into a "covered straddle" with a $30 strike? I take it that the #options comprising the "Combo Mambo" do not always share the same strike. Regardless, both tactics involve taking an actual position in the stock and creating "synthetic" stock position; whereby, you double the gains of stock ownership without paying double the outlay. Am I correct? I read through my first book on #options and need to digest at least one more before the concepts are clear.
  • GOOSE: $LEG @SeaKingA Hi, You are right, in the COVERED COMBO (MAMBO), trade, the Put strike is lower than the price of the stock and the Call price is higher than the stock. However, if I want to accumulate a stock at a cheaper price, I would then sell ...
  • GOOSE: $LEG @ SeaKing ....Post continued from previous......had to reboot......... which you get to keep. Stock sounds like a steady Eddie, so it should be a profitable one. But we shouldn't overlook the possibility of the stock going down.
