  • debeers: $LZB-Is it too late for them to change their name---maybe to slothful boy or indolent boy? Hmmmm. Too bad...............
  • Sher: $LZB - Can't believe this went up 22% today... nor their big earnings beat - The store in our area is deader than a doorknob.
  • Robert1965: @Sher $LZB same with the one in SW suburbs of Chicago, the lot has no more than 10 cars in it.
  • Sher: @Robert1965 $LZB - That would be a wildly busy day here in sunny Jupiter, FL!
  • gwenzee: @Sher @robert 1965 $LZB Perhaps they decided, like NIKE, to sell their furniture on AMZN. Try out that chair and if it doesn't fit your bottom, send it back.

Both $ULTA and $PVH are LONGS for me. versus $LZB
I do not now, nor will I ever again, own LZB because I don't own poorly managed retail companies who are clueless about multichannel marketing in 2016. Dan was right: the chart looked good and I ...
  • debeers: @traderbren $LZB --Well, traderbren I called Kars for Kids and they said it was in such bad shape they didn't want it. So much for the charity deduction. -
  • bigbartabs: @debeers $LZB ... I made a similar mistake with $HAIN. Chart was beautiful, trader sentiment good... so I bought it... twice. Of course checking the earnings calendar would have been wise. Next morning I had coffee running out of my nose when I saw a 24% drop. Its hard to remember that stuff when I trade 95% index and sector derivatives. I need that slap upside the head once in awhile... to keep from becoming super trader within my circle of best friends... me, myself, and I.
  • Aragorn: @DAN $LZB Since yesterdays opening it has not unfortunately made a new high after the first 45 minutes or so. I am not touching this one until we take out yesterdays highs at least on the long side. Gl making back some on this trade, that is why it is hard to follow someone into a trade especially an earnings trade, I just do not do that personally.
  • Aragorn: $LZB went inside 5 and up working
  • DAN: @Aragorn $LZB In a very rare move, I bought LZB yesterday afternoon (a rash act for which I hold debeers completely responsible). Because it was a speculative position, it was also a super small position (though again, I disclaim any/all responsibility for my actions and instead put it all on debeers' shoulders, who has been bullish on LZB). I like the way it's trading today, and I plan on just hanging on to it. The stock is a great lesson in trading the morning bounce. A selloff of 17% and a rush for the exits by panicked shareholders that pushes the stock right down to the 200-day moving average is a good setup for going long.
  • debeers: @woodman $LZB -Me either. Its sort of like the foks who pile into a biotech before an FDA decision like they have some info that none of the rest of us have.
  • debeers: $LZB -@DAN Well then, since you blame me for being bullish on this stock going into the earnings, let me tell you about the conference call. It was a short funeral service . There was nothing I could find that would have prepared either of us: in past performance, charts (as you pointed out), or the company's prior business plan. This isn't a car with a bent fender: correct one thing and its as good as new. This is a total wreck. Walk away and be glad that a small position was your seatbelt.
  • debeers: $LZB-I have just finished DAN's post on $LZB in which he blames me entirely for him taking a position in the stock prior to earnings. Today I listened to the conference call.

  • traderbren: @debeers $LZB - LOL...nice to see Dan putting the blame on us for a change, instead of taking the heat from us! ;-) As for $LZB I'm glad they didn't have to use the jaws of life on your wreck, and that you walked away after unbuckling your belt. Just a reminder to wear it prior to earnings if you decide to stay on the road, or park the car until its fit to drive again. cheers, B.
  • debeers: @DAN $XHB $PHM $TOL -new home sales are one thing remodel shows us that restauranting is down and cocooning is up. $WHR is good to go on both. Remodel was clearly evidenced by the Tempur Seely numbers and after a hideous report Mattress Firm was taken out for a huge premium. I am expecting good things tonight from Lazy-Boy $LZB because of 2 factors: the aforementioned cocooning and the Father's Day buys which are in this Q and usually LZB's best. Consider also the number of older folks who have mobility issues: the chairs that assist them often help them stay in their homes for a longer period of time. While you and I Danny will never ever get old let alone immobile as we are both related by blood to Dorian Gray, some folks actually do get older. Bummer, huh? FD:LONG $WHR/$LZB.
  • DAN: @debeers $XHB $PHM $TOL $WHR $LZB Oh, I'll never get old. Young forever. Now, my joints are getting kind of old...but that's different! 8-) I'm with you on LZB. Nice volatility squeeze. I'm actually going to hold it over earnings. There! I admitted it!
  • bigbartabs: @DAN $LZB ... that's one helluva monthly chart "W" pattern.
  • geotheo: @bigbartabs $LZB FYI. They report earnings after the close today. (per Yahoo)
  • debeers: $LZB-Alltime high today so the sea of regret has no swimmers. There are only 5 analysts who cover this stock: 3 buys, 1 outperform and 1 hold. There are no underperforms and no sells. Of the last 10 earnings reports there were 2 which were the 9th and 10th back where the stock reacted negatively after earnings. Besides the traditional Father's Day bump, what I also liked is that they have just introduced a no-stain fabric which is a must where there are small kids or pets or less than neat eaters in the house. Not only repels the usual grunge but also difficult stains like wine and chocolate and who wants to live life without those?
  • Bridget: $TUP and $LZB are both at the HOD? Is this 1985?
  • eliasmavs99: @debeers $LZB Been following this trade of yours. Congrats :)
  • debeers: $LZB- Looking for 27 cents a share and 355mm revs. I want to hear what they say on the call and I hate the fact that its tomorrow. am
  • DAN: @debeers $LZB I'm with you on this one. 8-0
  • debeers: $LZB-Epic miss. Expected was 29 cents/ they did 28 which for me is a who cares but the revenue was a disaster: 355mm on the low end was a projection with 358mm average and they did 340mm. Hideous. I will listen to the call but I have no idea what they could possibly say to ameliorate this in the analysts eyes as they are the go to den furniture for middle America.
  • woodman: @debeers $LZB I never understand spikes in a stock on the day that it's due to report earnings after the bell (or before the bell the next day). I know the knee-jerk reaction is to scream insider trading and that someone must know something, as a stock moves hard one way or another during the day. But I don't buy that. Here, of course, with it going down hard after-hours, obviously now no one is still saying the spike up was insider trading. Just makes me scratch my head about traders when I see out of ordinary moves on days like today prior to the news because, in my opinion, no one knows anything about what is to come.
  • Alexandra: @debeers $LZB Is it a good idea to pick some up at a discount AH ?
  • debeers: $LZB-Just an earnings spec (don't tell DAN!!) and ONLY because Father's Day, not Christmas is usually their best quarter, With insti involvement high and neglible short interest, I took some a few cents of today's low. Lastly, I ask you, would Brook Shields lie? Single concern is the receivables so we'll see.The earnings come out tomorrow nite and conf call following am.
  • DAN: @debeers $LZB I won't tell. Your secret is safe with me!!! Sshhhh! ;-o
  • debeers: @DAN $LZB -I know. You've always kept my secrets.
  • debeers: $LZB/$RH-Did you ever play poker? If you did/do have you noticed that one of the" playahs" will have a nervous tick or rub his arm etc? This, in poker parlance, is called a "tell." The "tell" for $RH is $LZB. $LZB blew away the numbers and $LZB buyers have less money to spend on Home furnishings. Your downside protection is already in because the stck has already dumped. They can import the fabrics cheap but they don't have the headwind of currency exchange outside of Canada. And, YAY! today we get to buy it for what DAN said we should!
  • TunaHelper: @debeers I would wait before buying $RH for either (a) more evidence of a turnaround from its downtrend or (b) buy it closer to near term support (around $45, which is a better entry than now - bc now it is 15% above support). On a more fundamental basis, I would worry about the prospects of $RH in this environment if the economy is turning south / going sideways (though that would speak more to it being a good environment for $LZB).
  • debeers: $RH $LZB Dearest Tuna,Have no idea if you are a guy or a gal but i can say you are confusing these 2 types of customers. No one who has ever bought from $RH would ever buy from $LZB. If times are good and you are you are a LZB customer , you upgrade your fabric. If you are an RH customer you buy 1 more very high end piece or you don't give a damn. There is a reason RH is located in Corte Madera Ca and it isn't because they had no more land in Monroe Mississipi where Lazy Boy is located and they are saving money on their facilities. LZB has floor space; RH has whole buildings artfully staged . Not assigning values--just describing a different customer base.
  • TunaHelper: @debeers $RH $LZB Not quite sure why you are bringing up my gender - totally irrelevant. I'll just leave it at that. Not confusing the customers at all and there being different customer bases, their relative fortunes, and how that plays into the potential economic/market downturn is my point. If the economy goes south in a major way, $RH may have fewer customers because of their diminished fortunes and potentially $LZB will have more. (One a different note, I have no ideas why La-Z-Boy doesn't change it's name. It's like Mr. Salty Pretzels. Bad marketing in my opinion.)
  • debeers: @TunaHelper $RH $LZB -I brought up gender because I wanted to be courteous and address you with respect. No matter if folks are buying homes or cocooning, more $$ is being spent on paint and furnishings.
  • freeno: $LZB - on good earnings and housing.

  • starboard tack: LZB.. Someone please teach me how to trade intra-day!? Can someone take a look at $LZB chart and tell me how you may have traded this?

**I posted this yesterday after the market close. I got a reply from @Henry (Thanks again), but wanted to see if ...
  • starboard tack: $LZB @debeers.. Thanks for your comments. I can (and sort of have to live with) high beta because of the size of my account. But I do get the risk in #shorting thinly trade stocks (just shorted it before seeing your post - will be watching very carefully.
  • starboard tack: RHT.. I'm in as well (not the best entry - was fooling around with $LZB too much, but at least both are working so far.)
  • starboard tack: LZB.. Someone please teach me how to trade intra-day!? Can someone take a look at $LZB chart and tell me how you may have traded this?

    Background: I was watching $ADBE, $JBL and $LZB as potential 59er and intra-day trade candidates. I traded $JBL ...
  • Henry: $LZB starboard tack. Do you have the 59 min trader or are you making assumptions based on others comments? Not everything that people claim is a 59 min trade actually is. $LZB If you were buying at 9:30, you were guessing. If you were bold you could have bought the 2nd 5 min candle but by 9:50 you were wrong to be long. If you went short at that point, you needed to be patient and give it a couple hours. To participate in all 3 5% moves would have required a crystal ball. $JBL gave mixed signals at 5 and 10 minutes, then took off. By 9:45 much of the move had been made. Would have been hard to make money by strictly adhering to the 59 Min rules. $ADBE worked like you would want a 59 min trade to work.
  • starboard tack: @Henry.. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have watched 59 min trader DVDs (multiple times). I agree, $ADBE was a @textbook 59MT. I guess I wanted to see if other folks see any tradable setups in $LZB chart (not necessarily a 59MT setup). My thinking is that if I can catch one of these moves, I can come out with net profits (even with a few paper cuts) - difficult to do so with more subdued moves. Obviously, I would not know how much any stock would move intra-day, but there seems be a better chance for large intra-day moves when you have big gaps. Well, nobody seems to be trading this way may be a tell, I guess?
  • debeers: LULU-while no immediate catalysts, adding also small.JOJO forgot to thank you yesterday on your $PVH thoughts so thanks. Meanwhile, the lowly $LZB is starting its Father's day recliner modification Brook Shields runup.
  • mcubas76: $LZB - coming down a bit, which would be a good entry point? or should I jsut leave it alone?
  • vze2n77d: $LZB - Low risk entry.
  • Tim S: $LZB - ran up hard after earnings, then pulled back quite a bit. I bought in this morning on the first green candle evidence.
  • fredsfreedom: $LZB - $BSET two weeks ago. now $LZB on lower profits but same store sales up. $LZB up 17%
  • slowtime: #Options expiration - taylor. Worden sent out a bear call on $LZB and RL. I bought some $RL July 80 puts, at 2.90. The $ITM, $LZB July 10 puts were too expensive .90, i.e. 10%. What do you think? @slowtime
  • trihan: LZB- Lazy Boy - WOW - I guess with PEOPLE not working, they really need a $LZB Chair. Check out the chart !!!
  • Tim S: $LZB Team, I had mentioned this one a few weeks ago - I bought in on 9/3 and was out on 9/10, having ridden the channel for the ride up. Well, it dropped heavily last week, and now appears poised for another run up - I bought last week at $8.53 and $8.78. I will note, though, that the previous highs appear a little "toppy" on the chart. Just bringing this up to put it on people's radar screen. - @Tim $S
  • Tim S: $TRN, $LZB, $ELY, $IMAX

Update on a few of mine I have discussed before ...

$TRN continues climbing, right on the upper Bollinger band. No signs of any change until further notice ...

$LZB - went right up to $10.00 like I expected. We hav ...
  • Tim S: $AXL, $IMAX, $LZB, $TRN Good morning team ... $AXL - looks like I sold too early this week. Great pop this morning ... $IMAX - announced theatre deals in China yesterday, and jumped up nicely. Looks to be consolidating this morning; I am still holding my position. $LZB - approaching the top of its channel; this has been a jewel. $TRN - continuing its upward climb! Great trading to all today - - @Tim $S (strickland411)
  • Tim S: $TCK I will contribute, since @Dennis and I also discussed this particular stock ... I had bought at $27, and rode the stock down to $22.57 - at that point, I actually tripled my position. This morning, having covered my losses commpletely, I sold 1/2 of that, and am letting the rest ride. I think @Dan's analysis speaks to the rest more effectively than I ever can. I had the same questions, though - and it speaks to my need to learn exit strategy better - and have that in place before I buy. I did use a plan like that with $LZB this week, and have actually already closed out that trade with a nice profit - even though the stock continues to go higher. - @Tim
  • Tim S: $TRN, $LZB Folks, keep your eye on $TRN ... still climbing. Classic chart for a volatility breakout, hugging the upper Bollinger band. $LZB - still climbing as well. This has been a jewel of a catch - @Tim (strickland411)
  • Tim S: $LZB Good morning team - take a look again at the chart for LZB. It's up another 2.3% this morning. This is not a quick mover, but it is moving steadily, and right within the channel. I am still holding the position I bought at $8 last week. If the pattern holds, then the test is at $10.19 right now ... and a breakout above that would be a strong buy signal. If it doesn't break through, then this would be a decent short candidate. - @Tim (strickland411)
  • Tim S: $LZB Following up from last Thursday (I wasn't in the forum much on Friday)... $LZB continues to climb, up another 3% today and trading solidly in its channel. - @Tim (strickland411)
  • leemuncy: $LZB whoever it was who mentioned it, thanks. i traded this from 3 bucks in and out to 7 and gave it a rest. your analysis to me, was/is spot on. $8.80 on the ask right now up 5.1% today check that i took too long to type its at $8.86 if you are in vegas, look me up, i owe you an adult beverage or 5 :) "i dont want to tame big government i want to kill it"!!!! wish i could claim this but its a radio host on Sirius XM radio, whos name escapes me at the moment.
  • strickland411: $LZB That was me ... look at it today, up 7%! Still has room to run in the channel it has been trading in! No need to buy me one - we'll just tip a few and toast the Forum! - @Tim

  • strickland411: $LZB Good morning team - take a look at LZB. Solid uptrending pattern of higher highs and higher lows. Right now sitting at the middle of the Bollinger bands, which is where it has bounced the last two times. - @Tim
  • strickland411: $LZB Folks, I mentioned this one earlier this morning ... steadily climing off of support, staying in its channel... - @Tim
  • maspag: $LZB This moved nicely today. Thanks @Tim for the heads up!
  • jng369: $SXCI, $LZB, LZ, EMS I wonder if anyone has any holdings in those....Those names have been crawling up slowly almost every day for more than 1 month.... I do not have any holdings in those because I think that they are already extended. but, strong stocks can get overbought when they're already overbought.... If anyone trading those names, can you pls give me some insights on why you picked those stocks initially? John
  • jng369: @barbg There are many trading styles. The one that I've been using for the past month is the break out/momemtum trading. The idea is that some stocks pops up a lot due to some very favorable news. However, the price of the stock may not reflect fully the news in 1 day. As more and more people find out this news, they will keep pushing the stock higher. This rapid rally may go up for few days or even few weeks... In this case, you want to jump onto wagon as soon as possible. The reward is great for this style of trading (risk is also not low, but you can control it). Example: $LANC, $LZB, $SXCI, and many more, all produced more than 10% within weeks after successful break out. But, if the stock falls below the initial break out level, cut the lost and run.
  • rain3man: $LZB - Team - would appreciate your perspectives on trading the stock after an upgrade last Wed but ahead of an earning release on 6/16. The stock ran up huge on the upgrade and now sitting right below the #200EMA. I am holding a very small position on the stock. Should I sell partial, tighten the stop and ride it or buy more if it decisively breaks #200EMA? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  • rain3man: @Bob - really appreciate your thoughtful input on LZB. You are so helpful. I probably will apply the same strategy to BGP also. BGP has a stronger chart than $LZB, broke out from its #200EMA last week and pushed above its last resistance of $3.43 with high volume. $5 could be the next resistance as a round number for people to take profit. Also trying to stay in the game and protect my profit on this one as well.
  • jb130: $LZB the next lotto pick to double in 2 days ala THC? (full disclosure -- I have some but am thinking of adding) And please no jokes -- that one is too easy:)
  • rain3man: $LZB Anyone has any thoughts on LZB? Recently ran up from around $0.5 to now $2.70. OBV rising, well above 20 and 50 EMA, hugging upper bollinger band.
