- BarryC: @vitoB $MC $CG $XP $APO $JEF $EVR AGREED!!!!!!!
- Forexpro: Re: $JEF Hi, Friends, This bank is investment banking plus trading; unlike most of its peer group (e.g. $LAZ, $EVR) it isn't "investment banking plus asset management", and culturally it arguably has somewhat sharper elbows, as well. It gets a very positive full-pager in this weekend's Barron's, and may get a pop in response tomorrow. The weekly chart as of Friday's close looks good, while the daily chart, it seems to me, is less impressive, although not terrible. Here's hoping that your weekend is going well; all the best! P.S. As of Monday at 7:18 EDT, it's at 35.70, a gain of 3.57 percent.

- DAN: Good morning. Retail sales came in lower than expected (translation: People are buying less stuff than the experts predicted). That tamps down inflation fears, which makes it less likely that the Fed will raise rates. And with it less likely that ...
- lostsheep: @DAN $ABCB $EVR #19 Inflation. With TINA at the wheel and the market taking every asset and commodity higher do we not arrive at the same end via a different path?

- Forexpro: Re: $LAZ Hi, Friends, This is a boutique investment banking and money management firm; sort of a lower-profile ($EVR). It posted earnings last night, and they were not just robust, they appear to be getting acknowledged as such by the Street. The Board authorized an additional $300 mio in stock buybacks; cash and cash equivalents on hand as of quarter-end was $962 mio. So, the fundies are looking pretty good. The chart isn't great, and I'm looking for decent resistance in the 55 area. If it can navigate those shoals, I'll become more excited about the stock's ongoing prospects. All the best!

- issues: @michaelH $FBK #Bridget How did you find this $FBK stock? It's got minuscule volume! So anybody buying any quantity will push it one way or the other. I prefer a little greater volume. Some bank/financials on the IBD this week include: $BOFI (we hold ...
- issues: @GOOSE $RF The chart on $RF looks like the chart on $ZION (we have 1/4 position). Looking at $SCHW (earnings Wed) compared to $AMTD (already reported earnings) the PE for $AMTD is better, better total revenue and expected increase in revenue with quarterly increases of .41.45.46/qt; compared with SCHW .37 .39 .41 over the same period. But the only caution is we may be entering a commission war between the companies. That's not good for earnings but good for us as traders. So I bought a starter in AMTD and already own SCHW. TD Ameritrade upgraded to outperform from neutral at Credit Suisse -MarketWatch With more research, in IBD, the finance/bankers group 23, showed the following; $MKTX up 22%, $EVR up 8% while the others $AMTD $SCHW $ETFC all down 4-9%, within the past 3 months. Only $SCHW and $EVR are on the IBD this week.
- GOOSE: @issues $RF $ZION $SCHW $AMTD $MKTX $EVR $ETFC Hi issues, Thanks for your thoughts on $RF, and the banks. Have a great week. GOOSE

The other reliable source for good info is the rating system on Investors IBD, since they give overall/Composite and Accumulation ratings as well as industrial group ratings. I record the IBD weekly 50 to see which companies/industry groups are lead ... - issues: Looking at financials, I like the following: $SIVB $AMTD $STI $BOFI ( up 17% in 10 days?) The best on the 10 day chart shows $AMTD $STI $FITB. PE's AMTD 27 (their own web says Reduce) STI pe15 FITB pe 11. But earnings increase goes to $SIVB (SIVB is on the IBD 50 this week as well as $BOFI $CFG $EVR $EWBC $STL $WAL). My favorite would be FITB, STI and SIVB (SIVB has been on the IBD 50 for weeks)

I personally prefer the shop founded by Schwarzman's former boss at Lehman, Roger Altman, $EVR, which has an asset management business to complement the advisory mainstay. The founders also, frankly, seem somewhat less rapacious than Mr. Schwarzman. ... - Forexpro: Re: $EVR Hi, Friends, This one has been on my radar for a while, and I've placed an alert at 51, since that's where I would like to pick them up. Options trade by appointment, unfortunately, so it isn't ideal for a covered combo. It's soft today, and I may just pick up a starter position, but a move back to 51 would suit nicely. This is an investment bank, but its businesses are advisory and money management. Expansion of the latter has entailed some additional costs, but the advisory business, particularly M&A, has wonderful margins when things are active. A former intern is an analyst at the firm; they're working her to death (but paying her well), which I take to mean that business remains good. Here's hoping that the day is off to a good start; all the best!

A reuters story mentions the fees that will be realized by firms like $EVR on this specific deal. Lots of fundamental analysts are saying how cheap these M&A shops are right now. What do you all think of the technicals? according to TC2000, GHL's yield is 6.0%. Yahoo Finance says 5.4%. either way, whoa.
