  • Jorma: $ACT $GS - added some $ACT @ 311.40, and STO $GS Jul 190 puts @ 1.05.
  • janner0814: Doing well J. Hope the same for you. $HZNP, $BIIB and $ULTA show up on scans of mine's also. #SGO (something's going on)(#Acronyms). The others are outside of my watch list. BTW: $CYBR in the same Sub-Industry group as $FEYE and $WDAY (which was hit down in AH). Nice find on $UHS. $AET which I own, works. Part of that Financial & Insurance group that could be "gathering steam." $PNK with a nice long consolidation; under the radar maybe? Thx! @Aragorn: "IBD 50 Inside day $AOS $HZNP $UHS Inside Week $ACT $BIIB $CYBR $PBH $ULTA $PNK reverse Strat Daily to the upside signal is above the hammer 37.29"

  • Jorma: $JNJ $ACT - classic breakout and pullback to convergence of 150d and 200d for $JNJ, watch for bounce here. $ACT bounced off 50d yesterday and now trading comfortably above 300 at 302.66.

  • Bridget: $ACT popped on 5/11 after earnings and then proceeded to pullback, that pullback now appears to be over and ACT is starting to climb again and coming off the 50MA. This is a low risk entry with a stop around $294.
  • traderbren: @Bridget $ACT -- any option play on $ACT worth taking? Thanks
  • Jorma: $ACT - finally decided to STC $ACT May 15 180 calls @117 when stock was at 297.07, stock had traded up intraday to 298.98, I couldn't decide if pin was 297.50 or 300, guess I know now. Had considered rolling out, but already have Aug 220 and 260 calls, and short 240 puts. One of my better trades so far this year.
  • Jorma: #Options expiry - the following short positions are set to expire worthless tomorrow, so full premium collected: $GS May 190 puts 1.49 $MHK May 170 puts 3.19 $REGN May 420 puts 12.99 $UVXY May 10.5 calls 0.29 Also long $ACT May 180 calls with cb 81.65, current bid/ask 115.50/118.10, thought about just selling them tomorrow versus rolling out, still of two minds.
  • dkoran: $ACT- Cramer action alert favorite. Anyone buying here on this downdraft after run up per earnings.
  • michaelH: @dkoran $ACT I'm a long term holder (since the take out of forest labs); have added on the way up, but not adding anymore here because its not acting as well as I would expect on earnings, and this pull back and the chart don't look great!!! FWIW
  • dkoran: @michaelH $ACT- thanks, i sold mine at close for a $1 loss on 200 shares. Tying up too much $ and market/this stock not acting as well as i thought after earnings and Cramer pump. Will examine it down the road.
  • ginny: $ACT Reports Q1 (Mar) adj. earnings of $4.30 per share, $0.36 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of $3.94; revenues rose 59.5% year/year to $4.23 bln vs the $4.08 bln consensus.
  • mradams0621: @ginny $ACT 60 min trade? uptrend but pullback prior to good e's, up 4% on report so far. Expect gap and run?
  • Jorma: $ACT - I am long $ACT 180 calls that expire this Friday, now given the good earnings report, with BB's expanding on daily, and weekly and monthly charts instructive, I am inclined to hold a bit longer. They are nicely profitable, and have been from the outset, although they were worth even more when the stock was at 317. I am recently burned from long $GOOGL DITM calls, which I let go after they had recovered from a downturn, only to watch them take off after I had sold for a modest profit.
  • rck89: $ACT $YUM BTC $ACT Aug 300/260 BuPS @11.00db, STO 13.834 cr...Ok profit on a small position that had been a "loser" for weeks. Probably will re-enter this name after assurance that $300 level is real support. BTC $YUM May 29 15 put @1.55...added to position, average cost is now 1.62. I fully expected that the gap would not hold, when initiating this trade after the earnings pop. Don't know what's holding this stock up?
  • Jorma: @GreenGhost $SPY - I agree, using this pop to sell some $XLF, and BTC ACT Aug 260 puts and $COST Jul 140 puts, book some profits. $ACT reports earnings 5/11, I am long calls and short puts at various strikes for May 15 and Aug 21 that I will hold through Monday. Considering lightening up in some other areas on today's strong move, wary of its sustainability, but you never know...
  • Bridget: Earnings to be released Monday morning: $RAX, $ACT, $DISH, $GWPH, $MBLY, $SSYS
  • Jorma: $ACT - has been oversold, now consolidating in 280-290 range, yesterday had major volume buying in last half-hour of trading day, portended good things for today, currently up 6. Saw mention in forum yesterday of stock setting up as a short candidate, I would take the other side of that trade.
  • Bridget: @Jorma $ACT yeah, I have to admit when I was wrong. It certainly put in a reversal and essentially a triple bottom. This now looks like it will rise into earnings, but who knows what will happen after that. ER expected on Monday morning.
  • Bridget: I see a possible Bear Call spread on $ACT. It is breaking support again and I think this is ready to fall. ER is Monday morning though.
  • LTCSteve: @Bridget I have Puts on $ACT which expire Friday. Are you betting on disappointing earnings Monday?
  • Bridget: @LTCSteve I don't know what earnings might bring. I don't like to hold options positions through earnings but when I look at the chart I see a trap door about to open and $ACT falling through it. If it does will likely fall to $270 or even $260.
  • michaelH: $ACT anyone have thoughts on whether its safe to add to long term hold here here

  • Prazan: @luongobill12 @Aragorn Here's the list of BUG & FlU tickers @Tricia initiated in the forum several weeks ago, with a few changes: $IBIO,$TKMR,$CEMP,$AKAO,$ACT,$CBST,$NBY,$MDCO,$BCRX,$TTPH,$NVAX,$SNY,$DRTX,$HEB,$ENTA,$DVAX Note that his list includes companies in the antibiotics field, $CEMP notable among them.
  • Aragorn: @Prazan $ACT $CBM $SPR $UTHR = Are all inside day and inside week. $CRTO is inside week and inside Month. MNST is an inside month a break above 142.99 inside month and up. But we are running out of month. Ideally monthly signals you want them triggered early because it stays in force the whole month so you can add every inside day/60 etc. Scanning for inside month and up or down gives you some good possibilities that can run I previously included UVE as an inside day, it is not.
  • henrik511: @Dan - Dan, I hope you can help clarifying something for me. Yesterday there was a conversation about $ACT and a person said it was in a Volatility Squeeze, but another person said that it wasn't in a VS. I think it is in a VS, but could be wrong. Could you please clarify when a stock is in a VS? Thanks, Henrik
  • dunsek: @henrik511 #Volatility #Squeeze $ACT I'm obviously not @DAN, but there's some good stuff in the SMM archives that might help you http://stockmarketmentor.com/2007/04/understanding-bollinger-bands/ Read it all, but the squeeze/expansion stuff is about 3/4 of the way down.
  • Bridget: @henrik511 Yes $ACT is in a volatility squeeze. Here is what we are looking for: The bollinger band width (distance between upper and lower bands) is at a 6month low. The 20MA is relatively flat. The 50MA and the 200MA are within 20% of each other. You will also typically see a drop off in volume. If I'm looking for a breakout UP, I also want to see the stock above the 50 and 200MA.
  • snmtraders: @henrik511 $ACT Vol squeeze when BB 5% maximum distance, and Dan likes to trade vol squeezes that occur close to 50dma, so ACT definitely there. Not a sure thing to move higher, but a low risk entry as you can set your stop below the 50dma if it does not move higher(which would be taking a small loss; ergo, low risk).
  • Forexpro: @henrik511, $ACT Hi, Henrik511, Here's hoping that you're doing well. ToS, and I presume other platforms, have studies (the bottom 2, on this chart) that help to measure the width of the Bollinger Bands over time (the next to last panel) and where the price is relative to the upper and lower bands (the bottom panel). I find it easier than squinting at the screen. :) All the best!
  • DAN: @henrik511 $ACT -- my criteria for a volatility squeeze is that the Bollinger Bands are no wider than 6% of the 20-day moving average. That's just my frame of reference, though. I look at ACT and I see a stock that's trading in a pretty tight range. I don't think the "classification" is as important as the basic character of the price activity. Looks to me as if ACT is going to break out of this consolidation/squeeze.
  • steve71: $ACT Strong close.
  • bwcarnation1: $ACT concerning to me...v.s could break to downside now that it's below 50dma. Been selling partial positions of late but still holding some at higher cost basis and some at my lowest cost basis...also pot H and S at neckline. any thoughts appreciated
  • Jorma: @bwcarnation1 $ACT - short-term it is trending down, however it is not a vol squeeze, and institutional buying from end of Feb to March 23 was heavy, volume selling since has not been so, suggesting institutions are not liquidating. Looks to have good support at 290 level. They report earnings 5/11, there is often a run-up to that time. FD long stock, calls, short puts at multiple strikes.
  • Jorma: $ACT @Lou @Dr.Science @GG - rolled my short ACT May 240 puts out to Aug 260 puts, the initial leg bought back at .275, the new leg sold for 5.34, for total premium of 10.1. Commission for doing it as a single diagonal was 22.84. Thanks for today's discussion, it helped me execute the trade.

  • Jorma: @FHS #HeartofDarkness - What did Mr. Kurtz see, was it Rosebud? I wish I were out at sea like Conrad, far from the market's reach on day's like yesterday and today. • michaelH: @DAN Thanks for throwing cold water on my parade. I needed that. I was about to add to some long term positions ie $ACT $CELG and buy some $SPY and $AVGO but I think I'll heed your advice and wait for that bounce instead of trying to pick the bottom!
  • Jorma: $ACT @ debeers - looks like there will be at least a brief pullback, I will try to add some Aug ITM calls.
  • Jorma: @janner0814 - I am having similar problems trying to buy more $ACT calls, cannot get a reasonable price without chasing.
  • janner0814: @Jorma You too? I tried $ACT. The market makers knew yesterday that $ISIS was under priced. I should've been proactive and taken 5c less. • Jorma: @debeers $MHK - @debeers, you've been all over this stock, and each time I tired to get in but was too greedy. At least $ACT continues its never-ending upward trajectory.
  • debeers: $ACT/$CELG- I have enough things that need monitoring. If you managed to get your ass handed to you today, consider these 2 instead. CELG gets you to where you want to go eventually. ACT, however, is my choice because ACT which has already swallowed AGN has banked winners. Here's what i noticed: when the market tanks, ACT goes up, when the market goes up, ACT goes up.Consider that the 3 year return is 434%, the 5 year return is 677%. Already has 23% banked thru less than 1/4 of the year.

  • Jorma: @debeers @ginny - $ACT outperformed the $SPX today by another 1%.
