  • Ashash: @scottrades thoughts on $ASTE?
  • scottrades: @Ashash $ASTE Looks like it's pulling back and breaking Fridays Low. Don't see anything right here, right now.
  • richard9f: $GVA Spent some time going over $GVA after seeing the free chart video on AKAM. $AKAM has been in a stronger/longer uptrend, but both breakout looks similar. $GVA broke through the #200sma resistance level on Monday, and all the MAs are now poised for bullish crosses. Volume is slightly below avg. Looks to be a RHRT moment. Watching $ASTE and $VMC for similar moves/comfirmation.
  • richard9f: $MOO POT Yes, looking for the turn. $AGU is looking interesting. $MOS appears to be forming a base too. The ag equipment names are firing too. $AGCO has broken out , $ASTE is ready to, and $LNN is making a turn.
  • milt: I have a starter position. Now that the earnings report is out of the way, I like the chart because of all this talk about billions being spent this year on building infrastructure. I want to track this one and $ASTE with the idea that these stocks are close to a bottom and maybe momo money will pile into them some time this year. regardless of the talk $28.60 is about where I'll be stopped out on GVA.
  • richard9f: $GVA $ASTE Thanks @Milt. I saw Zacks but $ASTE on their sell list after their earnings on 2/23. Saw that $GVA said earnings would be lower in 2010 than 2009, but that hasn't hurt the stock yet. I guess I should listen to the conf call. Do you know how the $ASTE guided?
  • orthodoc: $BOOM, $ASTE NLC--another chemical company @Dan, what about MRVL?(again?) @Bob, thanks for TIS---paper company that keeps going IP doing great as well.
  • orthodoc: @Bob, thanks, $NFLX had great numbers recently, and compelling to me as a fundamental story, since more people may stay home and watch movies? Picked up small amount this morning with stop just below 50dma, using ATR. Anyone looking at monthly charts for support? Is this helpful to look at support lines? Example, ASTE---Certainly, asphalt is going to continue to be needed going forward, even with the balance between federal increase, and state shortfalls. Is it less risky to enter $ASTE on any increase on volume with the stop under this support level...also, is $ATR of any help on longer time-frame charts?
  • Bob: @Gabe -- Royboy -- H720 So what I'm getting from your responses is there is cause for optimism and some tech support in place but you're not putting your money to work quite yet. That's where I am for what it's worth. I agree there are shining lights. It may seem off but I'm watching several ed stocks for a buy at the low end of trading ranges. Also added $ASTE to watch list.
  • Ian: One more IBD thing# The IBD divides the stock universe into 197 groups. The current top five in terms of momentary Darwinian fitness are: 1] Metal Ores # Gold/@Silver 2] Commercial Services # Schools (rolling over as fast as the eye can see.) 3] Medical # Genetics 4] Computer Software # Medical 5] Medical # Biomed/Biotech Don't expect videos on: 193] Household # Housewares 194] Machinery # Construction/Mining $ASTE, KHD, JOYG, BUCY, $TEX, $MTW, $CAT 195] Retail/Wholesale Jewelry 196] Textile Mill/Household 197] Mining # Gems @Ian
  • orthodoc: Added ATHN(infrastructure--healthcare EMR), $CUB on pullbacks today. Have $ASTE, $SCHN, $FLO and WMT--Will hold through weekend? Hard to decide. Seems like taking partial profits is wise, especially with comments on here today. Anyone for long argument through weekend? thanks
  • orthodoc: @Dan, $HIL --- good example of smaller volume trade that came out of consolidation with a bang. It is a worldwide manager of construction projects, with U. S. government as one of its major customers. BUCY and JOYG good buy from mining standpoint, if mining/gold/oil has hit a short/intermed/or long term "low mark"---notice I didn't say bott...LOL $ASTE and $TXI, $ASTE is producer of pavement procucts, etc and I have buy order for over 34(breakout) or will buy at middle bb around 31.28. $TXI, another low volume stock in #squeeze/consolidation?
  • Ian: @Bob We can get parochial in measuring stocks by their US activities. $CX has plants in 50 countries. It is 'well represented' in the US via the Rinker purchase and earlier Southdown. But what actual percent of revenues come from the US? Don't know. Maybe 15%? Seeking to be parochial about cement, and looking for US based companies, $TXI and RMIX look like promising chart-wise substitutes. $MLM generates raw material like aggregates for roads and infrastructure projects. $ASTE makes equipment needed for aggregate, asphalt, trenching, etc. @Ian
  • orthodoc: I picked up $CX and $CRH about 9 or 10 days ago. Also, thinking about $BOOM at 16.2. @Niche welding company. My list of infrastructure: $ACM, $ASTE, $BOOM, BUCY, $CAT, $CRH, $CX, $ENG, $EXP, $FLR, $FWLT, $GVA, $HIL, $JEC, JOYG, $LAYN, $MWA, $PWR, $RPM, SGR, $STRL, $TITN, $URS, $VMC Thanks @Dan for helping with these, Watching $RPM, $BOOM, $MWA closely. Have scaled into(and taken some profits) in $ACM, $CRH, $CX, $FLR, $VMC, SGR, and PWR. What do you guys think about water and utilities? Specifically, @Dan do you follow CWT--California water? I'm looking at E as well
  • Ian: ...
Astec $ASTE Peter Lynch, Ken Fisher
    Caterpillar $CAT - James O'Shaughnessy
McDermott $MDR Peter Lynch, Ken Fisher
Ameron AMN # Peter Lynch, Benjamin @Graham

Deep pocket oil (Nov 25 list)
Chevron $CVX - Peter Lynch, @Kenneth Fisher and Jame ...
  • evanesce: Hi Barb, the Zack's group of mining machinery includes $ASTE BUCY $CAT HEES $IR JOYG $MTW TEX. But for another bunch of names, here's one of my little finds. There is a magazine that targets miners, it is at http://www.coalandquarry.com Download the PDF, scroll to the advertiser's index, and there's a big list of vendors. Not all are public, but it is a source that few people would dig up (sorry, couldn't resist). Hope this helps.
