  • Kasey: @brobert , HI, I am wondering if $MMI was on your radar and what your thoughts are. I have seen you post about "W" patterns. This is one on the weekly chart and I wonder if it's setting up for an entry soon for continuation. Also, I think you find a way to enter much lower usually and I havent figured out how to do that yet.

  • Lou: $MMI - moving (it's a relative term). Looks like China may finally approve the $GOOG deal. I suspect that the buying is coming from China as the regulators have probably tipped their friends about the pending approval. That's just a Wild A**ed guess - not actionable! @Lou

  • sweeper240: $MMI - I've been holding this stock. I'm value positive in the trade, but its taking so dang long for the company to be acquired @ 40/share. Any thoughts?
  • dr.orangejuicer: $MMI - Absolutely no reason to hold this. VERY little upside potential, colossal downside potential if, for whatever reason and however unlikely, the deal doesn't go through. Put that money to work elsewhere and leave the arb stuff to the pros...

  • jojo1480: $GOOG option- I think i would stay away, Eurozone issues (20% of earnings from Europe, and $MMI earnings disappoint), volume today above normal, might be good for a bounce and daytrade., No position, waiting for $ISRG to hit the 50dma, I shorted $BIDU again a few minutes ago.
  • dfaz: MMI-merger-arbitrage play, if $GOOG is taking $MMI out at $40, am i mistaken that if it's trading at $38 +- that their is a 5% potential as the deal is supposed to close FY12 Q1? thanks in advance
  • eleKtra: notable earnings tonight: $BIDU EMN IM, $LVS, $MET, $MMI, PFG
  • dfaz: GOOG-earnings today after the bell (still tonight here in silicon valley) as @Dan mentioned some big post earnings moves in the stock. They are really expanding their Android platform and are strategically lining up allies to help fight their battles, $MMI AMZN Samsung... even RIM is betting their company on technology that will access the Android market. Taylor, Jojo, @Hwyflier, @Aragorn .....SMMer's, feedback input in common and #options strategies, thanks
  • dfaz: HTC@emi-Harkmeister is dead on, you have to run app killer. my brother in law works for $MMI and is a $GOOG lover, has corporate issue phone while still owning his personal phone.........Palm Pre that actually is a great phone with bad marketing
  • dfaz: VHC@murfields-thank you for your post. i too am going take a position after buying and selling this stock. my brother in law works for $MMI, i have worked for a few other Fortune 50 $IT companies and live in silicon valley. lets be clear, $AAPL is flexing their muscles big time, others will try. bottom line, tactically, with their stock low, someone may take them out to try and check mate their competition. $GOOG had to pay up for $MMI because $MSFT and $AAPL bid the price up, $GOOG had to have the technology to protect their Android platform. $VHC has won some serious fights against $MSFT and others with large war chest. The chess game continues, wasn't $MMI at like $22 when they got the bid from GOOG?
  • dfaz: PAY@jojo-small position. brother in law works for $MMI, now with $GOOG takeover and living in silicon valley plenty of water cooler talk, nfc is going to hit and i think $PAY will be a play in it. looking at $VMW and $SINA today along with $VHC
  • Zatodeb: OPWV - agree as a pure spec, as we've all watched $VHC take off. This stock has also been chosen by Stocks Under $10, altho most of their choices are underwater. OPWV also got a nice boost today after lunch by a Wall St. Cheat Sheet article mentioning it, while noting that $MMI said that $GOOG purchased it primarily for its patents; the article states that OPWV has sued $AAPL & RIMM for patent violations (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Motorola-Mobility-Reveals-wscheats-2296745525.html?x=0&.v=1). $Z

  • dfaz: IDCC-someone is going to run at them, and look for $MSFT to make a run at $MMI to make $GOOG go deep in their pocket to protect their platform. are you going to continue to day trade it? i think their is going to be some volatility in it short term, Icahn is pushing $MMI and $IDCC is on the blocks

  • jojo1480: GOOG- wasn' t this downgraded today because of $MMI takeover? If it breaks today' s intraday low, where is support? Be careful @critical junction. No position.
  • gold2stocks: $GOOG - @jojo - I saw where $UBS downgraded $MMI but not Google...GOOG actually started as a buy at one rating agency. • jojo1480: GOOG- S&P are these knuckleheads relevant, sold my daytrade made enough for a sandwich. MARKET TALK: S&P Equity Not So Fond Of Google After Motorola Bid 08/16 03:25 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3:25 (Dow Jones) Google's (GOOG:$538.72,00$-18.51,00-3.32%) $12.5B deal to acquire Motorola Mobility (MMI:$38.05,00$-0.07,00-0.18%) poses "greater risk" to the Internet giant and its stock, according to S&P Equity, which slashes $GOOG all the way to sell from buy. "Despite MMI's extensive and valuable patent portfolio, we are not sure it will protect Android from [intellectual property] issues." S&P Equity sharply cuts its 12-month price target on $GOOG shares to $500 from $700, saying $MMI would hurt GOOG's growth, margins and overall balance sheet. The stock hasn't reacted to the news, and remains down amid the broader market's slide, recently trading off 3.6% at $ 537.08. • Eptake5: $GOOG Buying $MMI for $40 a share.
  • joanie: $GOOG - and so far the street seems rather underwhelmed by the idea, premarket. Could be a59MT or could be a gap and crap. woulda/coulda: $MMI was on my list today because of Friday's bullish engulfing, and if Friday hadn't been Friday, i would've bought.
  • foreman47: $GOOG - Down ($17) preMkt on the $MMI buyout, Near the 50 SMA. Could be an opportunity to buy GOOG. ZAAG - Up preMkt Bid $16.56 from $14.73 on Earnings release (+12%).
  • rdxshooter: $MMI Any SMM members able to retire off this merger??? I hope so, too bad I am not one of them.....lol
  • Tim S: $GOOG, $MMI - looking to pick up $GOOG at this level provided prior support holds (no reason it shouldn't due to the $MMI acquisition announced this morning)
  • dr.orangejuicer: $MMI - As noted Friday, $MMI calls were my last holding after a fairly positive week. Sure glad I held them. :DDD Not retiring, but it's a great day at fanopants hq.
  • taylor: $GOOG, $MMI - Google Inc. agreed to acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. for about $12.5 billion in cash, a move that would make Google more competitive in the mobile-computing market. The deal, which comes just eight months after the split of Motorola Inc., would give Google control of Motorola Mobility's attractive patent portfolio after the Internet giant recently missed out on a bid for Nortel Networks Corp.'s portfolio. Google, which owns the fast-growing Android operating system used in millions of mobile phones, has a thin portfolio of wireless and telecommunications patents. The deal has a reverse termination fee of $2.5 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.
  • k8e8n8t8: $MMI I have Jan/35/calls which were only worth .80 on Friday. My cost basis is much higher. Any suggestions as to what to do now would be helpful. If GOOGLE is going to pay 40.00 a share it would seem that the #options should be worth 5.00 plus the time value.
  • dr.orangejuicer: $MMI - Any tips on unloading my $SEP 25s? I'm below the bid and still not getting any takers. If I exercise the #options, do I take possession of stock immediately (so that I may sell it immediately)?
  • taylor: $MMI - if you exercise the option (call your broker to do that), you can sell the stock immediately (use the same phone call to accomplish that)
  • tnt: $MMI deal makes $S look like a bargain here. Investors will likely take notice soon. Some great activists behind this name
  • dr.orangejuicer: $MMI - Thanks, taylor. On the phone to the mighty ThinkOrSwim, where my wait time is "more than 10 minutes", presumably due to more issues with the merger.
  • k8e8n8t8: $MMI I have theJan 2011 35.00 call leaps.Since there is more time value would it be better to hold for the 5.00 premium difference between the $GOOG offer of 40.00 per share and the 35.00 strike price?
  • dr.orangejuicer: $MMI - AHH!! Filled!!! Never got ToS on the phone. Merger has been pretty disastrous.
  • Henry: $MMI Dr OJ the strike is trading, so it must be a broker problem if you can't sell it below the bid.
  • boba: $MMI - up 56%. Anyone see that coming??
  • zguy: $MMI - No, but I had been picking up shares for the past two weeks or so. I happily sold my shares this AM. This week has started off great.
  • Lou: $MMI - short rolled $30 puts and long shares. Happy day here. @Lou
  • taylor: $MMI calls - Sell them !
  • hopperspeed1: $MMI - Kent, analysts Mark Mahaney, Citi, was just on #CNBC, he advises that this deal will not close before the end of the year contrary to what $GOOG says. Also makes it sound like this is not a done deal. Good luck with them, @Hopper
  • Lou: $MMI S - wishful thinking? I fail to see what the two have in common other than one makes devices and owns a pot full of patents and the other has and sells spectrum and devices. What am I missing?
  • jasper: $MMI - Kent -If $GOOG or SEC decide it's not such a good deal, your calls will be worth less than 80 cents. SELL, SELL, SELL. This trade is done. Move on to the next one. Buy yourself a sweater.
  • Aragorn: GOOG- @rbmoult - good luck with your trade. You might want to sell some way out of the money calls in September against your Jan 2012 calls and let them expire worthless and then do it again the following month- this will help pay off your option. Yo ...
  • dr.orangejuicer: $SPY - Had a good week, taking the rest of the day off. Now 95% cash, only holding some $MMI calls.

  • robertj: $MMI ---- speaking of stocks that didn't get badly hit on the down days, no great moves but remained positive yesterday and today, I sold last week at 23.63, now at 24.29, any one have any thoughts on it. can't see any news
  • dkt: $MMI - Up 2.74%, on good volume, on an ugly day. Investors seem to like a new Android smartphone that they introduced. I first thought that this favorably received announcement is contributing to AAPL's pullback. But, $AAPL is pulling back less (-2.3%) than the Q's(-3.1%).
  • Splendor: $MMI - wow, that defies reality. that kind of divergence must indicate something quite good. found their new Photon phone. is this the new one you were referring to? http://mediacenter.motorola.com/Fact-Sheets/Motorola-PHOTON-4G-Fact-Sheet-36f3.aspx
  • Dave: $MMI - after reading some of the comments from the CEO, it sounds more like broken stock. Icahn and CEO are both talking about the value of the patents - that doesn't sound encouraging.
  • zguy: $MMI - This has pulled all the way back to the $23.00 level after the one day wonder it had a few days ago. I took a little bit of stock here again. Please keep in mind that earnings are after the bell today so you are taking a gamble if you decide to do so.
  • mrkkaz: $MMI isn't doing $AAPL any favors.
  • sinvanco: $MMI @Dan like this one, I think it is a dog just like $NOK and RIMM so I bought a straddle to play earnings on Friday ( just in case @Dan is right again) Bought 22 August calls and 24 August puts for a pricey premium of $3.75 as IV ( implied volatility ) is really high .
  • Lou: $MMI @sinvanco- huh? - where did you get that? @DAN liked the setup of the chart at one point from a "risk management" point of view, but I don't believe that he said that he liked this stock.
  • sinvanco: $MMI well @Dan said more than once that he like Motorola. Search the sessions about a month ago
  • Lou: $MMI - I see no need to search - just telling you that I think that you are on your own with this pre-earnings trade. Hope you make a ton of money, but if you don't, it ain't @DAN's trade, it's yours. Good luck!

  • zguy: $MMI - Probably going to regret it but I just sold my entire position. I couldn't justify holding a stock that has run almost 20% since I bought it a few days ago. In my own opinion, it appears someone knows something about what their earnings might be like. Just a thought...
  • antfarm: $MMI breaking out to the upside up >21% after Icahn talks about exploring #options of the patent portfolio. Long a place holder position @Jon
  • bullmoose: $MMI - I didn't see anyone post about this one. It only jumped 19% today. Unfortunately, I don't own any.
  • sweeper240: $MMI - In it as well (for a long time) but didn't catch bottom, will ride it up with protective stops
  • pilotski: $MMI - up 22% - take profits now or hold for more gain - comments?
  • pilotski: $MMI - sold all of my position at various points above 26.00 more than 20% profit in two days. Will buy back after earnings. Mentor says protect your dough
  • taylor: $MMI, #Options - #Shorting some calls as a speculation because of the huge move today in the stock. I already have a long term covered call position, and I shorted Aug 22 puts and Oct 21 puts when the stock was hitting new lows, not so many weeks ago. Sold $MMI Aug 29 2011 29.0 Calls @ 0.35. Those that have not looked at the puts I sold earlier, the premiums are still ok to sell even though they are down today.
  • dkt: $MMI - I would be reticent to short $MMI (long puts, or short stock or short calls) after the explosion experienced by $IDCC this week.

I watched $IDCC gap up to $52 on its open Tuesday and was tempted to go long, but did not know the catalyst a ...
  • Lou: $MMI - Carl Icahn urging $MMI to monetize its huge patent portfolio. He's a massive holder. See WSJ on line story. Estimates company is worth north of 44/share! This is big. I'm long $MMI and short puts. @Lou
  • zguy: $MMI - I have been watching this one, yet again. I picked up some a few days ago. The volume has started to pick up over the past few days. Don't get me wrong, this one is down trending. I guess I am trying to pick a bottom. :) Earnings are on 7/28 after the bell.

  • dlylis: $MMI - Good article in the WSJ this morning about the *damage* done to $MMI in China by the exit of GOOG. Apparently they have had to patch up certain apps and programs on which the smartphones are designed to run. Having said that $MMI is seeing an increase in market share in China, but I guess it could be better.
  • taylor: $MMI, #Options - using the current weakness in the stock to set up some short put positions in MMI: Sold $MMI Aug 20 2011 22.0 Puts @ 1.20. Sold $MMI Oct 22 2011 21.0 Puts @ 1.40
  • dfaz: MMI-interesting in the last 2 big up days in tech, $MMI was down on both, one last week and now today. even with rumors of $AAPL coming out with 2 new I Phones, RIMM and Nokia according to articles are going to get choked per Barrons article. MMI-no position, been long with stops, good technology
  • futurepants: $MMI - I like these little flushes like we got today. If $MMI can re-bid 23/23.5 I would be more confident about a long entry than at any time previously in this "base". -fp
  • cmac: $MMI for those so inclined, $MMI is back down to long term support. I'm not nibbling since the past two days selloff was on better than average volume.
  • woody: $MOS and $MMI based on the session last night I will be looking to start a position in $MOS and MMI. any thoughts? stops will be at closest low.
  • sinvanco: RIMM well bloody day , the stock was downgraded by most analysts today( after it was upgraded yesterday , wait for Monday!) with price targets between $25-55 what exactly are these guys thinking? RIMM has revenues close to 20 billions, this is not petty cash, guys some of our "favs" here are yet to make a dime i.e $MCP . Beside, I think RIMM has much better technology than many of the other handsets manufacture such as $MMI ( @Dan Fav) or $NOK I bought some August $25 calls today.
