- davewells: SNV..btw,sterne agee also weighed in favorably on this one in late august...if you are looking for a thesis for regional or community banks ,here is mine...these bank stocks really didnt start imploding until nearly a year after the homebuilders crashed as it took time for the npa's and non-accruals to hit their income stmts...it wouldnt surprise me to see regional and community banks take the lead next year as they follow along about a year behind the recovery in the homebuilders..reserve reversals will be a positive boost..my favorite regionals are $SNV,RF,and FITB--long all 3..as for community banks ,@tim melvin on realmoney has favorably mentionned a couple of md banks in the past .. svbi and shbi..i like both but am not long..use a limit order as they are thinly traded..dave

- rdxshooter: $SNV - For those of you in this one, it posted it's second profitable quarter in a row. We got in around a buck so you should have a 70% profit at this point. For the trades of this it is right up against the 200 Day SMA, as it might pause here. I am holding and will add on any pullback with a bounce confirmation

- rdxshooter: $SNV - For those of you interested $SNV has Preferred shares trades under the symbol SNV.PR.T (On my platform anyway). They are yielding about 13.75% right now. I am long both common and preferred although my preferred position is small at this point.
- rdxshooter: $SNV Not sure if any of you are in this one, but it pulled back nice today to give a good entry.
- rdxshooter: $SNV - Zombie bank nice pop today. I have been posting on this one esp when it got down to a buck and there was some heavy insider buying on the open market. Getting a nice pop today. Looking through the SEC filings there was some additional insider buying through the banks Director Stock Purchase Plan on November 10th. I wouldn't get too excited about these, but the stock is up 60% since it was at $1.00
- rdxshooter: $SNV FNCB Two distressed regional banks. $SNV is one I posted on several times and still consider it a good buy for a long term hold. As of its recent quarter reporting I have been building a position in the preferred shares (SNV.PR.T) The preferred shares are yielding 13.5% right now. FNCB based in PA is one I have been doing some research/homework on. It trades on the pink sheets and is very very thinly traded and has some pretty wide spreads. Right now it is trading at $2.50, my research indicates it has a book value somewhere around $6 . I view this bank as a long term hold or takeover target. This bank has its issues with bad loans and some board members. If you were to buy this one expect some wild swings on very low volume. Most days it doesn't even trade shares.

I posted on this several times a few weeks ago as it got close too and eventually dropped below a buck that there was heavy insider buying. At that time it was a 4% yeilder at 1 cents a quarter, but hey 4% is 4% Buy now you would have a 30 to 40 percent gain. Just reported earnings this morning and beat by 0.05. With its first profitable quarter in a while.

- rdxshooter: $SNV @Poppy Thanks I have been long this forever too. I had a slug of this and TSFG which was basically given to $TD by the regulators for a song. I think it was taken over at a 50% discount to the closing price of the stock. Not sure how that is even legal, but basically wiped out my position. As it dropped below a buck, had a decent yield, and the insiders were buying hand over fist, I decided to add. I trimmed a little today, but my original thesis was to put it in my IRA and look at in 30 years.

Look at the 6 month chart and determine if the reversal is going to make some money if you get in now. Strong rumors in the recent past and now that this bank will be a target for a takeover by $TD of Canada or BB&T. May be one to look at, let me know your thoughts..

- rdxshooter: $OREX SNV $YRCW Some low dollar spec stocks at interesting levels. $OREX seriously sold off yesterday. Watch for an oversold bounce. Use yesterday's low as your stop. I would raise my stop to a break even point as soon as possible as I hate to loose any money on trades like these. $SNV bounced off the 50 yesterday. Looks like it may want to go to 3. Set stop below yesterday's low. $YRCW pulled back to 3.84 or so yesterday and closed at 4.11. It seems to be in phase 3 of the #squeeze pattern and we now have a well defined stop.

I have a little room for speculation in my portfolio but that is currently being taken up by $SNV and YRCW.
Because contrary to what everything thinks Jobs has the most to loose both healthwise and financially as he holds more $AAPL shares indivi ... - rdxshooter: tlisakson $YRCW I hold this in a long term spec account where I hold a basket of spec stocks that really dont care if they go to zero. This company has it's issues with debt and is basically owned by the bondholders at this point. I own it and will add on a break above $4 Other specs I hold in that account are of $SFI which I have been trimming, $SNV, $RAD, $S, $HIMX, $PNX and BEE. On a side note, this account actually keeps me from over trading and kind of cures that "gambling itch" for lack of a better term. This account gets funded with portions of day trade profits and profits from sales within that account. Only after all other expenses and IRA contributions are made. I only mention that as it may help others from overtading also
- rdxshooter: $SNV $SNV - a zombie bank I have been in on for a while. I know a few of you are also as we discussed it on here. Printed a nice tweezer bottom on Thursday and Friday of last week. It is now above the #200SMA. I suspect most of todays move is quick flippers (as it is a low dollar stock) playing the tweezer bottom. This may get pushed up to $3.00 before it pulls back. I plan to add on any break above $3.00. Have a stop just below $2.75 Again this is a zombie spec bank that has yet to pay back TARP. It still pays a $0.01 #dividend.

- dunsek: SNV- this is an example of why I just love the 13/24 moving average cross after a pronounced downturn. It would have gotten you into $SNV on Dec 6th or 7th, at about $2.25. Interesting chart- this week's weekly low was definitely at a support line on the weekly chart and the 200 looks like a great reference point on the daily (though as yesterday shows, you do need to give it some wiggle room), but it also looks like there's work to do to get past $2.75 on the daily. I might set an upside alert at 2.80 or so. Ps sorry for not waiting for the wrapping paper to be all cleared away- I'm working until noon and have little to do :) Merry Christmas
- shredex3: $SNV charts- question about charts, what is the difference between a 1 month chart and a 30 day chart. I asked a broker friend about $SNV breaking down and he said he was holding on because it was still over the 200 day moving average, but I look at my 3 month chart and I see it went ot it and pulled back on this chart, so I looked at the 30 day chart and the 200 day was down near $2.30 or so. Would it be the simply verus he exp moving average?
- shredex3: RF- Gotcha, you are looking at it as a technical trade which may end up being a good trade. I was pointing out the company as a whole. I can't say anything, I am holding $SNV on a hope and prayer that they will be bought out before being the next bank I read about on a Saturday morning. It is also a rumor around here $RF is a buyout candidate.

- rdxshooter: $SNV Anyone else holding this zombie bank? I have had it for a while, it got above the 200 SMA back in Sept and it decided to test that level today. Down on an up day, but it bounced off that 200 level, so perhaps it goes higher from here. Again, this is a zombie bank that still owes $980 million in TARP. For some reason it still pays a $0.01 #dividend though. It is in my "I look at you only when an alert goes off portfolio" along with $C , PCBC , $DRYS , A, $RAD, and and few other low dollar spec plays.

- rdxshooter: Harkmeister - PCBC I hope this works out to be a great trade for you. I rode this one all the way down and dumped at the bottom. Needless to say it was a bad trade for me. I wanted to get back in, but I already held 5 bank stocks so I didn't. Also, this stock, and $HBAN were both great #dividend players. If you have a long term horizon and think that may be the case someday in the future now is the time to grab some on the cheap. I will not be selling my $C HBAN or $SNV as I think they all have growth and #dividend potential

- rdxshooter: $SNV this is a distressed bank. No one really knows the state of a lot of these smaller banks. right now they are getting a lift because of the money flowing into the #financials. My advice If you are looking for a trade, skip this one until the fundamentals improve. there are so many things working besides this. If you are looking for a SPECULATIVE (may go to $0) bank to hold over the long term to make some $$.... Take a crack at it or I would suggest $C or $HBAN in that same category

- rdxshooter: $SNV Not sure is with the big spike in this today, I know it had a minor upgrade. This is a low dollar bank stock that I bought with the intention of holding through the ups and downs, even if it went to zero, as a speculative play. I am still red on this one but glad to see it moving up. On a side note. sometimes I will buy spec stocks like this, but I usually only do it with portions of profits I get from other trades.
