  • Mitchell: 7/1/2021 Notes $CMCSA - closed just below the top of the wedge pattern that has been forming since April. A close above $58 confirms a breakout. Earnings are due out on 7/29. $GPC - nice move back above the 20-day SMA, closing above the recent flag pattern (bullish MACD crossover as well). Earnings are due out on 7/22. $LEN - the third time was the charm as the stock was able to close above the $100 level today, setting up for a short-term run to $105-$110 $SAM - heavy selling pressure after the failed attempt at the 200-day SMA, setting up for a potential retest of the January lows. Earnings are due out on 7/22. $SBUX - there was a successful test of the 100-day SMA last month and now the stock is ready for a return to new highs if it can close above the $114 level. Earnings are due out on 7/27.

  • phgruver: @debeers $AZO At over $1100/share, a float of only 25m, and daily volume of around 300K, they are just to danged expensive. No dividend, I might add as well. I sometimes shop at $AZO but I wouldn't invest in them. $ORLY is another one that has, at times, been a good trade, but not a particularly good investment. To complete the sector, you also have $AAP and $GPC. They all look much the same, a choppy mess. Basically dead money. $GPC does pay a 3.12% dividend, the others don't. The other major competitor in my area, Pep Boys, is owned by Icahn Enterprises, and not traded publicly.

  • debeers: $AZO/$ORLY/$GPC-SHORTS ALL--One way to make $$$ is to seek out a theme of the stocks that appear on the top of the declines list. All of the above are auto parts dealers and all will suffer if $AMZN decides to get into this business. You don't have to be first. You just have to be right. Why would you pay for shipping when you don't have to pay for it and why would any mechanic?

  • Aragorn: @woodman @dunsek @ cappy $GCP $GRA $GPC #SpecialtyChemicals nice chart for sure, please note the Par Sar has switched ot a short, do not let that affect you, it is I moving sideways to slightly up and Par SAR can switch back and for the in this condition. The 21ema should be your first area of attention otherwise let it work
  • woodman: @Aragorn $GCP $GRA $GPC #SpecialtyChemicals Thanks, buddy.
  • Aragorn: @dunsek $GPC I could not agree more. Here is my chart for everyone else to clearly see the defined pattern 3 bar pullback to a rising 8ema or a 21ema. A little sloppy intraday but the uptrend is clearly defined for a hold. Notice those inside bars and allowing one to add to your position
  • dunsek: @Aragorn $GPC Just a follow up. Still long, watching for a break over 100. Posting only as an example of the benefit you get from having realistic expectations and from being satisfied with base hits. Nothing wrong with a few percent gain on a trade with very definable risk and a solid premise for getting in - in this case, the 'completed Aragorn pattern'. They don't all have to be home runs and 10-baggers to be worth trading.
  • dunsek: @Aragorn $GPC three bar PB to a rising 8dEMA, just below long term resistance. A move up past 99 or maybe 99.25 would be an alert worth having, imo Edit- or for the more active types like you, a move off the 8 :)
  • Aragorn: @dunsek $GPC nice chart yep looks like 100 a sure thing 97.70 the signal because we have an inside day today and taking out the high from yesterday it is go time
  • dunsek: @Aragorn $GPC Hit 98.01, but dropped quickly below the 8 ema on the 1 minute. NP, still watching

  • dunsek: Possible outperformers- last Saturday I posted a short list of stocks I thought might be looking good to outperform the S+P. They were: "...So now it's $PKI, $EMC, $DHR, $PBCT, $GPC, $DNB, $MRO and $SE, though more cautious about $SE and maybe $MRO than the others." and the results were: $PBCT +4.37% $PKI +4.10% $DHR +2.53% $DNB +1.75% S+P +1.41% $EMC +1.18% $MRO +1.06% $GPC +0.04% $SE -0.24% Not a bad result. Off to update the scans. edit- Ok- scans done, and this week's top candidates look like $HNZ and $FITB My second choice group would be $USB, $PBCT (again), $CMCSA, $DNB (again), $EMR And one that looks like it really wants to be a top candidate is MRK. One to watch, for sure. Happy risk management, everyone.
  • dunsek: Possible outperformers: before yesterday's open in response to bxshin's question about what looked good #RHRN, I posted $PKI, $EMC, $DHR, $CMCSA, $CINF, $SE, $EMR, $PBCT and GPC. Based on yesterday, I'm ditching $CMCSA, $CINF and $EMR from that list, adding $DNB and $MRO and putting $SE on notice. And yes, one day is hardly enough to base a decision on, but if the idea is to beat the S+P in December, you can't allow much leeway! So now it's $PKI, $EMC, $DHR, $PBCT, $GPC, $DNB, $MRO and $SE, though more cautious about $SE and maybe $MRO than the others.
  • dunsek: #RHRN- My short list of possible outperformers is $PKI, $EMC, $DHR, $CMCSA, $CINF, $SE, $EMR, $PBCT and GPC. Of those, I kind of like the contrarian play, so going long the #financials via PBCT. Yes, it is penalty box, so not sure if that meets your creme de la creme definition, but there you go. I also like $CINF and $GPC #RHRN, the others may need just a bit of watching. All the usual caveats apply- do your own top down and sector analysis, etc etc etc! Oh yeah- and though it didn't meet the mutli criteria for the above sort, I still like $HRB which I started a small position in yesterday and still think the coal trade (PCX, ICO) has legs for a while yet.
