- scottrades: Good morning Team! Lots of green on the screen, fresh off Jamie Dimon’s letter, which was all the talk on Bloomberg this morning. I am still watching the move in $GLD playout, as the monthly chart has a nice C&H on it. When charts start looking good on the long term time frames, you have to pay attention to them. I’m watching $GDX, $WPM, $RGLD, $NEM, $AEM, and hold some $GOLD. Also watching for re-entries on $SMH Stocks like $ON $ALGM. I see a nice base on $TSM. $NVDA is still in trend. $AMD is back to the 8EMA. I’ve also been mentioning Defense stocks like $LMT and $AXON which have started coming out of their bases. Not surprisingly, a lot of energy stocks popped up. This one ($KMI) looks interesting to me; I haven't owned it for a while, but I had some success with it in the fairly distant past. It pays a roughly 7 percent divvie, and reported earnings back on Jan 20. All the best!

I am a great fan of the physical stuff, but $GLD and the other proxies you name are a decent substitute and I do trust the integrity of the storage. The Forbes article is from a scare monger - other more nuanced write-ups do point out the differences. For "buy and hold" I prefer the stability of GLD to the miners, though they may be better trading vehicles.

- issues: I was looking at gold stocks $AUY $NEM $RGLD & $GOLD. The best ratings from IBD are $GOLD 82 (composite) A- (accumulation) and $RGLD 84 B. But rather than take a chance on just one company I bought a starter position (100 shares) of $IAU (which is 1/10 GLD)

Looking at ETF’s $EFA $EUFN $DFE $FXE all in downtrends especially $FXE. While the $UUP is up like a rocket. Best Countries ETF’s China $ASHR India $SCN and Philippines $EPHE. But looking at $EWQ may at last be turning up. As with $GLD ... - GreenGhost: $GOLD Spot Gold big reversal day so far touched new near term high of 1305 and then got clubbed ; off around 20 bucks so far. It was significantly overbought short term IMO. Wait for pullback and decent entry then consider putting on bullish positions. $RGLD for instance which I have a bull call spread on is likely to print a bearish engulfing candle today for example. http://finviz.com/futures_charts.ashx?t=GC&p=m5 Also of note the USD index got thumped and wonder of wonders the algos bought spot Oil. These two have a pretty high correlation as one would expect. - bullmoose: Precious Metals - Yesterday I posted that $GLD was catching my eye due to the triple low on the weekly chart. Today I read about George Soros buying a significant amount of $SLW. So I checked some tickers and found the following that really look like good buys here. When you look at them, take a look at their weekly charts first. $SLW and $GG are at the lows of channels and bouncing. But, they're not among my top choices. They are $EGO, $RGLD and $SA, all of which have made higher lows. A COUPLE others to consider are $GOLD AND $BVN. I'm not saying to rush out and buy them. But they are looking tasty.
- pardiam: $RGLD - indeed think that this is the best gold miner out there and if you look at tis chart has been among the best performers . Right now i prefer going long the metal though although not too aggressively just yet
