  • Ajax4Hire: @metal #OT Wow, 980lbs of steel lyin around your homestead, wow, just wow. Not sure I follow the "high scrap prices presaged a top in economic demand" logic. To me, hi scrap demand shows desperation. If Infrastructure spending is truly about to increase; then increase demand for equipment($XLI,$CAT,$DE,$CMI), steel($NUE,$X,$STLD,$NEM,$AA) and other metals($XME,$JJC,$JJN,$PAL,$JJU). I see demand for many metals, the production input. This means inflation as everything that relies on metal will increase.
  • metal: @Ajax4Hire $XLI $CAT $DE $CMI $NUE $X $STLD $NEM $AA $XME $JJC $JJN $PAL $JJU #OT Well it is the way I see it. Rightly or wrongly. Prices usually went up due to a demand spike. Point is that the spikes usually passed quickly and as I remember it, were followed by a cooling in the economy. But as I said, which are so many a person's fatal last words, Covid makes this time different. I leave proper analysis, if there can be any with Covid 19, to the more sophisticated on these subjects.
  • Ajax4Hire: @metal $XLI $CAT $DE $CMI $NUE $X $STLD $NEM $AA $XME $JJC $JJN $PAL $JJU #OT Thanks for the info. Always good to hear real vs. reported. Question to ponder is how long the spike will last.
  • BartonGee: @dunsek I tried to reply, but the forum doesn't work well in Firefox... anyway, I was in $AUY - Dan's pick some time ago around 6ish and added in 7's, but there was never any follow up on the forum, or in Dan's videos... when I was above breakeven, I posted 3 times and got no response... and having been burned by stops, I let it ride. I keep seeing oversold articles... The same thing happened to me in $PAL. FreeStockCharts relies on Silverlight, which crashes hourly on my PC.
  • SeaKingA: #Patterns Proof that "head-and-shoulders" can be a continuation pattern: $PAL
  • rj7150: $PAL @mradams0621 - I believe Russia is one of the worlds largest producers. That may bode well for your position. South Africa is having labor and profitability problems as well. Where are this companies holding? I hold $PLG (South Africa) and am keeping a short lease on it.
  • rj7150: $PAL @mradams0621 - I just looked at Yahoo for information on this ticker. It operates in Ontario near Thunderbay. The market cap is 120 million. $PLG is 600 million and in South Africa. It's claim to fame is that it is developing a shallow mine. A lot of the palladium and platinum mines in Africa are deep and more expensive to develop. $PLG can use more equipment and less man power. I know enough to be dangerous.
  • MartySS: $PAL - Beware $PAL is suffocating in debt. That being said I'm long as a lottery ticket
  • Wolf: $PAL - Finally broke through the 50DMA. Started a position @ .43 and added today @ .51.
  • mradams0621: Losers- @bfolkerts- I have a ton of them, held them for years- came to SMM with them, sure know better now. But most have finally started working a bit- down 25%in $SAND, but its up 5% today- $URZ, really ugly for years, now starting to work. $PAL down 64%, down again today is my best bet for losers with potential for more of the same. Or look at $NES, it's a very committed loser, most likely going to zero at some point. If you like bio-teck, $DNDN has been a wonderful loser- I'm down 84%- could come back some day but not likely- it's an old dog, not going to learn any new tricks now I wouldn't think. But what do I know? I'm holding losers! Listen to a winner!
  • Wolf: $PAL - Getting ready to test the 200DMA. Last March, it broke through and resumed the down trend shortly after. Long PAL.
  • MartySS: $PAL - I'm also long $PAL and enjoying the new year bounce. I'm going to hold this as they just increased their payable production forcast for palladium
  • Wolf: $PAL - Finally established itself above the 50 DMA. Long small starter position. If metals continue, it should take off.
  • philharmonic: $PAL - Wish you luck with this one.
  • mradams0621: GOLD- @Lou- hope you did not do those planed gold miner trades yesterday. If so, stay away from windows in tall buildings till it comes back. It will come back. Someday. Painful. Long $GLD, $NG, $PAL, $SAND, $SLV, $TCK, and very very not happy.
  • :
  • hooked1: Palladium - Article in Barrons over the weekend calling out palladium has $PAL up 6%
  • hooked1: $PALL @Lou - Palladium has been a tough one so far this year, with early predictions of low supply, the names popped and then fell back to Earth. I like $PALL as a long term hold too. It has been range bound for a ling time. Depending how you draw it ...
  • Lou: $PALL vs $PAL - if one likes the future of palladium, and I do, $PALL is preferable because of the pure play aspect. A miner like $PAL has too many variables built in - boardroom issues, ill advised acquisitions, hedging strategies that could fail, etc. I'm not saying that $PAL has any of these issues, but it is not the pure play. I've been long $PALL for some time and as of today I'm up about 8.5%. There are no #options in this name. I believe that the best is yet to come.
  • mradams0621: $GLD SLV- @macphee- that was a wonderful response- extremely well thought out and articulated. Problem is, I still don't understand a word you said. Could you dumb it down a bit? If you were holding large $GLD, and $SLV positions, (paper metals), would you be tempted to dump them? How about other metals? $PAL, $FCX, TCK?
  • mradams0621: $FCX - TCK-@tnt- these trade together almost tick for tick, $TCK looking strange today. Not sure what to make of it. Please take a look. What is your thesis for FCX? Metals are not working. $GLD, $SLV, $TCK, $PAL all painful to hold.
  • hwyflier: $PAL : Nice round bottom? Strong pop out of #squeeze today. Still with room to run. http://www.freestockcharts.com?emailChartID=a0c4bfd3-e31c-455c-974d-2b15f431d90a click discard last session to view
  • mradams0621: $SAND - $PAL - $RENN - URZ- $TEVA - My former losers are making power moves up today, my winers not so much. Me thinks that means something, but I know nothing. Should add to losers to lower cost, but no guts. Will wait for a pullback, the one that may never come.
  • jnag698: $SAND, etal - I feel your pain. I can't address $URZ or $TEVA, but I'm out of $RENN (burned too many times on Chinese stocks)and $PAL is a spec that I will hold for a while longer. $SAND is one of my favorite gold plays. My cost basis is low and I plan on buying more on any pb. fwiw.
  • bigbartabs: $PAL, URZ... @mradams0621... all the tickers you posted look fine to be in at this point. If you held them falling downward... well... that's the issue I would work on, as we have discussed before. For PAL... I would watch this one close... if it can't break out by Monday... I would likely lighten up. For URZ... heckuva two day up draft. Nice... but keep track of it since it is right up against a lot of moving average resistance... 50, 100, 200dma lines. The touch and fall back from the 200dma would be the one that could be most significant. FWIW
  • woodman: $PAL @ mradams - did you resolve your internal conflict with this stock?
  • mradams0621: SLV- doubled down yesterday and sorry I did but closer to a bottom than a top so letting it ride. Lowered my cost a bunch. Someone on Fast Money Half time had gold going down to 1525 as his final trade. That does not help. Sticking with the hope trade. Poor man's gold will find a bottom and will make a run up, just a matter of when. I'll wait for it. Long $GLD, $SLV, $PAL, $TCK but it sure has not worked out well yet.
  • woodman: $PAL - wow, I lucked out. I bought this one yesterday. Someone had a couple martinis at lunch and came back with a hankering for this one.
  • mradams0621: PAL- @woodman- thanks for that call, I want out, after doubling down lower it just went above my cost basis. Now if I just don't get greedy and loose it again. I want out of $PAL, want in $PLL on p.b.
  • woodman: $PAL - I'm literally babysitting it now watching it here at the 50 day. Retracing to the 50 day was my goal when I bought - ride to the 50 day and see how it reacts. But I wasn't expecting a move like this in one day.
  • woodman: $PAL - Although as a general rule I'm not taking new long positions right now, I did take a shot on $PAL today.
  • mradams0621: PAL- stupid trade, but i'm bored to death. Double down on $PAL as a day trade only in hopes of an oversold bounce to lower my cost basis. $PAL long and wrong.
  • woodman: $PAL @mradams0621 - Yikes! If you're bored, go to the gym or start a hobby. $PAL looks fraught with danger. Only a knife collector should be buying that stock IMHO.
  • Wolf: $PAL - I tested the water yesterday and stopped out for a .03 loss.
  • SeaKingA: $PAL - Commencing Phase 3 of expansion from volatility #squeeze
  • hooked1: $PAL - Oh yeah! I was lucky enough to add yesterday.
  • hooked1: $PAL - Nice pullback here. Shorts getting more aggressive. Lot's of predictions about possible palladium disruptions ahead. Worthy of some DD.
  • mradams0621: $GLD SLV $PAL DZZ TCK- lots of #CNBC talking head chatter today bearish on gold. D. Gartman on Fast Money bearish also "in dollar terms". Bullish "in yen terms" is his standard answer when asked about gold for the last several years. Never once ...
  • mradams0621: SWC- @rj- your compare to $PAL was caught late last night, but was not important. Fast Money final trade mentioned SWC
  • mradams0621: $SWC / $PAL - @Dan mentioned a platinum or palladium stock a few weeks back, but I liked the $PAL chart set up and got some for a small speck. @rj???? mentioned $SWC yesterday asked me to compare the two. Per fido- both are pure crap by annalist recommendations and other fundamental data. But they are working- until they don't. Trading the chart only on PAL.
  • rj7150: $SWC - $PAL @mradams0621 You are 100% correct. I do like to watch certain smart money players like Fisher Investments - Ken Fisher I have traded around $SWC I first bought on Sept 27th at 12.07 - added at 11.36 and 10.35 in Oct and then took some off the table Nov 21 at 11.27. That was a mistake in hind sight.
  • bybyjanice: PLATINUM: I took a little $PAL, but does anyone know a better ticker.
  • SeaKingA: Platinum - $PPLT is physical platinum. $PAL mines palladium, which is used in catalytic converters.
  • mradams0621: GLD- @rj- nope, I'm clueless. Building a long term gold and basic materials position based on Gov. money printing and race to the bottom currency race will end with hyper inflation at some point. Maybe soon, maybe when my grandkids are retired, bu ...
  • rj7150: $PAL - $SWC @mradams0621 - I was just looking through your metal holdings and just want to see what you think comparing the key stats of these two companies on Yhaoo. I never like too many - s on this page. But I also know that a ton of money is made on dogs with little hope of profit. I always have trouble going with them. I have lost enough money on stocks with great stats as well. What do I know? I know the answer, but that would be negative. happy investing @RJ
  • mradams0621: $PAL - $SWC -@rj Comparing the two using Fidelity, both are trash with equity summary scores of Very Bearish 0.1 for $PAL and a Bearish 1.3 for SWC. $EPS is minuscule for $SWC but better than negative eps for PAL. Analyst Opinions are ugly for bot ...
  • cmac: $PAL adding to PAL. $PALL - the metal - may be breaking out here. $PAL - the miner - is lagging. But we are seeing volume come into this penny stock. On the weekly chart, it may be breaking above the downtrending channel....We won't know until the week is complete though.
  • ccrown4: $PAL in the Palladium sector is priced close to book value of 1.74. Probably can't go wrong with it and volume is way up 10.5 million shares today
  • ccrown4: $PAL correct that 2.2 million shares today, had weekly chart up
  • :
  • Wolf: $PAL - Anyone hear anything about this? It is one I have too big a loss to sell and it is up 6.5% today. Maybe just speculation on lower dollar and inflation....
  • bigbartabs: PLATINUM... Stormy... the only one I know of is PPLT... but as you say, volume is a problem. Let us know if you find another. $PALL and $PAL are Palladium... another metal to watch. But also may have low volumes... not sure. FWIW.
  • SeaKingA: $XME PAL - Of all the metals, why is $PAL taking a dive? I ask because I have been watching for an entry. I am laying in wait because I always buy $FCX at the wrong time. :\
  • Wolf: $PAL - Breaking out. No news I can find.
  • Tricia: $PAL : Hi @Wolf .... this is part of the metals trade .... started to move last week, very volatile stock ...good for short term ..g/l.
  • Tricia: PAL: move does have explanation Rioting & bloodshed at South African platinum/palladium mine causing supply disruption. Look at $PAL, $SWC spike http://www.wsws.org/articles/2012/aug2012/mine-a23.shtml
  • SeaKingA: $TIE PAL - Real nice pop on $PAL following a week of basing, BTW.
  • Wolf: $PAL - up 7.3%, no news I can find? Wonder if it could be Chrysler reporting good sales. The product biggest use is catalytic converters.
  • southern: $PAL I am long i saw someone else was too PPLT. The $ETF is is about 1.7% higher currently on broad market strength, but also on a separate fundamental catalyst that should provide real price support. Tighter safety regulations by the Dept. of Mineral Resources are being implemented in South Africa, which will slow the rate of production, and therefore would cut total supplies. This is critical to platinum futures because South Africa produces about 78% of the world's platinum and the safety checks/regulations may get even tighter in the near-term. Separately, platinum futures fell below the price of gold in late September, which is an unusual event and something that has typically created a good buying opportunity in the past. This goes well in combination with the broad market strength seen in metals following the FOMC statement.
  • jmcgee66: $PAL I think this was discussed many months back. Looks good. Heavy volume thus far today.

  • geothrills: $PAL - Holding steady to digest a heavy volume upside move on Wednesday. With $XME also showing support here, I am continuing to accumulate PAL. Long stock, LEAPs, and stalking Sept calls for a better entry.
  • bullmoose: Miners & Oil Services - Hey everyone, thought I'd pop in on this beautiful Friday and remind everyone to get involved in some miners and oil services. They're really perking up over the past month. I think the miners are playing catch-up to the moves in the metals. I have positions in $VGZ and SLW. I just added a starter in $BVN coming out of a #squeeze. Expect a re-test at some point. I'm looking to add others. Take a look at AZK, $MHR, $GOLD, $AG, $CDE, $ANV, $AEM, $NAK and $PAL, among others. On the oil services side, $BAS has been a non-stop juggernaut for me. $CLB has been on a tear, as has OII. $CAM, $HOS, $BRY, $CRR and $DRC are looking like good buys. HEK, which I also own, is basing at the 50-day.
  • geothrills: $UEC - I've been harping on $PAL this week (for good cause), and wanted to also bring $UEC to the forum's attention. The $XME appears to be carving out a pretty solid base here at its 50 day, indicating an upside reversal from its three month downtr ...
  • issues: $PAL Thank you geothrills I just bought some. Thanks for the reminder. With the Euro-stress test gold/@silver and palladium will go up next week. Hope my purchase sends your shares soaring for some real thrills...
  • geothrills: $PAL - This Canadian palladium/gold miner has been carving out a base for the past two months after taking a nasty 50%+ hair cut from its highs set earlier this year. Today, the stock is popping decisively above its 50 day moving average on good volume, after having failed a similar attempt last week. If it breaks out of this congestion/trading range at $4.45 (currently trading at $4.40), it would seem to have room to run. On the other hand, it's up over 10% today alone! On a weekly chart, it is clear to see that the selling pressure has been deteriorating markedly, with MACD just about to turn higher. I took a bite earlier this morning after one of my alerts went off. Thoughts?
  • jmcgee66: $PAL In yesterday at $3.90. Metals gone wild!
  • geothrills: $PAL - Anyone else? This thing is now up over 16% on heavy volume. This looks like phase 3 of a volatility expansion, cleared short term resistance (though the 200 day lurks overhead at the $5 level). I added (small) to my position on clearance of $4.45, but don't want to get piggy. Also own some 2013 $2 LEAPs. Edited on Jul 13, 2011 14:06 Edited on Jul 13, 2011 14:06
  • cmac: $PAL It does look like Ph3 of @Dan's vol #squeeze. However, I'm up25% in two weeks, so I couldn't help but book profits. Sold 1/3 of position.
  • Miki: $PAL - coming off a prolonged base/support second day above BB- taking a small amount
  • ridgerunr: $PAL #squeeze alert
  • cmac: $PAL total spec position, and under $5...so handle accordingly. But the stock may be in a bottoming formation. The BBs are squeezing, but there is a low risk entry here, with support clearly defined. Most interestingly, is that Palladium - the metal (etf PALL) - has seen its price fall since early June but PAL's price has stabilized. Their last earnings report was apparently horrible, but maybe all that is priced in. I don't think its a great company, but it may be worth a speculative bet that the metal price itself has bottomed (PALL at the 200 day) and that maybe the company is turning things around a bit.
  • joanie: $PAL - a stock I've loved to hate and hated to love and I don't know how I feel about it LOL. I've made and lost money on it. I'd like to see the bands get tighter still and then perhaps we'll see a nice move to the upside. I agree that it looks like it's been putting a solid base and could well have bottomed. Chances are the next earnings report will move the stock big time, for good or ill.
  • Dannomon: $PAL - Looks like the palladium market is starting to wake-up out of it's long, very tight volatility #squeeze. Worth keeping an eye out. Went long with half position - stop under 3.60.
  • wanda16: $PAL note evisceration....may be a great buy
  • emac2north: @Silver Shopping? Does anyone have any technical points to look for a turn around in @silver? $FCX, $TCK, $PAL, $PAAS, $SLV, $SLW, $SVM, $EXK, $AG, $AGQ are all looking either good or scary. emac
  • smccree1: $PAL - Recently joined this forum and wanted to thank everyone for your valuable insight. Has been very helpful. Made some nice gains off $PAL recently and wanted to get your thoughts around this trade moving forward. Thanks!
  • gintice: $PAL - @smccree1 - If you would give details on what you see and are doing others may be able to add their opinon. Good Luck. gin
  • smccree1: $PAL - Thanks @gintice! Been buying on the dips the last few months with some success. I thought with palladium nearly back to $800/oz and gold at new highs, that this would have pushed it back to the $7.00 mark (now pps is .40-.50 lower than before). I'm hoping that once the automotive market recovers from all the shutdowns # Toyota, Nissan, & Honda # we should see some upward movement. Nice support at $6.50, but volume has been week. Any immediate action or just sit and wait?
  • emac2north: $PAL - opened above the upper bollinger band today from a nice #squeeze with defined support at the 50 day ema. Check it out. emac
  • emac2north: $PAL - Closed last night on the 50 day ema. Today it has posted a higher low and a higher high. It is poking it's head above the upper bollinger band at the moment. Support is well defined at 6.61 in a 12% volatility #squeeze. emac
  • emac2north: @GOLF77 - will 6.60 be constructive on $PAL ? emac
  • Aragorn: Industrial metals did well today. $SWC and $PAL 2 of the best today.
  • btebeau: $DE, $JDSU, $CIEN, $PAL Lots of stocks on my watch list pulling back to support. Already own a little $DE and $PAL but been waiting for a good spot to add. I've done a little nibbling from cash I've raised in last few weeks, "hoping" this wasn't stupid. The fact that @Dan is stepping aside makes me very uncomfortable. Existing positions in $ARMH and $DIS also making me uncomfortable, approaching my stops. Thought I had good entries...
  • Lou: $SLW SLV $GLD PALL $PAL - earnings - one of the reasons that I much prefer $SLV to $SLW, $GLD to any of the miners and $PALL to $PAL is that you never need worry about earnings. $SLV, $GLD & $PALL are etfs that hold the physical stuff and neither earnings nor Board room action nor hedging programs gone awry have any impact on the price of the shares. You're trading strictly the physical stuff and you forget about everything except commodity prices. I'm long $SLV, $GLD & $PALL with short puts and calls in some of them. @Lou
  • sambolsm: @Lou: $SLW vs $SLV, $GLD, $PALL, $PAL etc. I agree with you. It's hard to decide whether to sell or hold any of the precious metals miners over earnings . I think that $SLW is an exception. It outperforms nearly all the other metals miners and E ...

  • Darce: $PALL continues to consolidate. $PAL continues to look messy and $SWC continues to look strong.
  • issues: $PAL is the one! $PAL is a real PAL. Why not get $PAL instead of PALL?
  • Darce: $PAL - issues...I own $PAL, as well, but it isn't behaving very well. I like to hold a sector $ETF long term in conjunction with a riskier stock like PAL. But I made a mistake...SWC kept saying it was my @Huckleberry, but I chose PAL. Now who would want to own PAl when you could own SWC? That's the better question. ;0)
  • Lou: $PAL PALL - $PAL is a miner, $PALL holds the physical stuff. $PAL is subject to the dictates of a Board of Directors, decisions on hedging (or not), and other corporate events. $PALL is a pure play. All those new middle class people in China, India, Russia etc. etc. are getting into auto ownership and Palladium is cheaper than Platinum, and one or the other is required in the making of catalytic converters -- and all of these countries now require them to combat pollution. I first posted about $PALL here in March 2010 when it was in the mid 40s. At that time I noted that Palladium has been as high as $1,000 - It still has a way to go to that price. It is $837 as I write this. @Lou
  • Miki: $PAL - +9% -special metals ( PGM) up 2day see also AAUKY (ANGLO AMERICAN)
  • joanie: $PAL - This is right at the bottom of an upward channel. Watch for any kind of a bounce because the last 2 trading days it traded down on decreasing volume and lower than avg volume. For this to not go down bigger than that on Friday, and at least on more volume than Thursday, I take as rather bullish, (or at the very least non-bearish if there is such a thing). It's also bull flag material, as well as sitting right at the 50 ema. If this holds then it's also putting in a higher low, and a higher relative low at that. Nice low risk opportunity here if there's evidence of buyers.
  • joanie: $PAL - I have a (re)entry in $PAL, and of course I wish I got stopped out of all of it up at 8, but do keep an eye. I remember @Dan said that the more often that a stock tags key support, the greater the likelihood that one of these times that support won't hold. $PAL has been bouncing off the the 50 since Sept, and these last two times were pretty close together after what looks like an exhaustion burst. However, it could well be consolidating, and I'm "hoping" that the Thurs/Fri action does turn out to be bullish, but if this closes below the 50 I'll sell because it's a long way down to the 200, and I'd rather buy it back if I'm wrong to sell than risk that downside.
  • issues: $PAL WFT $OAS SLM $CSP PCX Thanks to the Forum members! Because of your valuable input I purchased partial positions in $PAL, $WFT, $OAS, $SLM with buy-limit orders in $CSP and PCX. Thanks for the heads up on PCX reporting tomorrow. I put in a buy-limit order three points below today's print. Also what's not to like in PCX. Tomorrow is Ex day with .10 div so I put in a buy order a dime below today's price. Also a big thank you to the person who suggested the Fidelity Floating Rate Fund FFRHX, I've made nearly $7,000 since Sept. Thanks for helping my account get back up...
  • Aragorn: $SLW looks to have found a bottom the other day. Low risk entry stop below 28.85. $PAL is at the bottom of it's channel so at support. Excellent area to add or enter stop beow 6.50. Long $PAL and adding here
  • cmac: $PAL the metal palladium has outperformed other precious metals over the past several weeks. You can check out PALL. I like the $PAL chart, as it has come down to touch the 50 day. Risk is well defined. $PAL has mentioned that it will be increasing production 75%.
  • Markf: $PAL - Anyone watching this stock? Coming off the 50 $MA and trend line.
  • joanie: $PAL - Yes, I like this #RHRN, and the volume's respectable too.
