I'm still holding $ARCC, $MAIN and $NEWT, as well as $NRZ. It's too late to sell, so I'm just sitting on these. None are a very large position, though. All told, #yieldhogs shouldn't be more than 5% of your portfolio, even in the good times. I'm fully expecting that all of these will have to suspend their dividends for 2nd quarter, and maybe the 3rd.

  • 86944T: #yieldhogs Did some reading this weekend. The SEC is going to allow some BDC’s to sell Secondary Securities for small business capital. This is positive for $MAIN $ARCC $HTGC $NEWT. In addition, $NEWT is already advertising PPP loans for small biz. Debt for $MAIN and $ARCC is still rated investment grade. Moody’s changed the following outlooks from stable to negative based on uncertainty for the following stock: $GSBD $ARCC $TCPC $TSLX. Citi maintain a buy rating on $ARCC. $DSL has 44% of its debt in emerging markets, and I’m trying to figure out if it is still eligible to be bought under Fed programs. $TSLX rated buy at WFC. $HTGC PT lowered to $10. • grcjr: @antfarm $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC - I have positions in all of them. Assign me one or more. I'll look at all as time permits.
  • antfarm: @grcjr $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC I don't have holdings in $NYMT or $BCSF. I will also look at the others as well. Anyone who wants to join in the reporting are welcome.
  • mepcc1: @grcjr @antfarm $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC I also having holdings in all except $NYMT - have preferred $NYMTN - My firm belief that It will take all of us combined (yiledhog holders) looking at these earnings, comaring to Dana's previous comments and posting what insight we can to even come near to his wise words & guidance. As I said yesterday, one of us might see something the other misses.
  • antfarm: @grcjr @mepcc1 $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC $NYMTN So true. I started building out a spread sheet of all the values and items Dana commented on. It starts with Q4 2016 and compiles quarterly info. I don't know how to share it here or if anyone would even be interested. Its my own creation warts and all. I add a column each quarter and fill in the relevant dat. Gives me a nice visual on the health of each company.
  • mepcc1: @antfarm $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC $NYMTN - What a great idea - I have a document sorted alphabetically of all Dana's notes going back about 1/5 years. You spreadsheet sounds much better - here is how you should be able to share it on the forum: As you open box to type a new post, you should see blue box, lower center, SELECT FILE. Once you click that you should be able to find the spreadsheet on your computer and attach it. If this does not work and you don't mind sharing privately, my email is mepcc55@gmail.com. Thanks
  • antfarm: @mepcc1 $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC $NYMTN It gives me an invalid file format error. I'll send it to you via email. As they say I make no warranties. Or how Dan would say it.

  • mepcc1: @yieldhogs $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC - the following have earnings this week and $HTGC goes xdiv on Friday 2/28 by a total of $0.40 - the $0.32 regular div + $.08 supplemental. Earnings: $NYMT AH Mon 2/24 $TCPC Before Wed 2/26 $NMFC $BCSF AH Wed 2/26 $LADR $MAIN AH Thur 2/27 While I can do my best to report the basics of these earnings, I have nowhere near the analytical skills of our dear departed Dana aka @jan2138. As such, would urge any of you fellow long term followers of Dana and our yield hogs to share your take on any of these earnings. Maybe between us all we can keep ourselves out of too much trouble.
  • antfarm: @mepcc1 $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC Agree. Definitely not Dana but yes we can get it done. I'll report on the ones I hold if no one goes first. Any willing souls to pick up some? Spread the load. Do we want this to be organized with members taking on some or do this in some hap hazard form?
  • mepcc1: @antfarm $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC - I think, initially, let's be somewhat hap hazard as one may see something in the earnings that another might miss or not recognize as relevant. I'm guessing we'll have to feed off each other.
  • phgruver: @mepcc1 $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC I agree, that it's a lot of work. Dana was a retired Wall St. analyst, and did this sort of stuff in his sleep. For the rest of us, it's not so easy. That said, I'll be watching $MAIN on Thursday, I'll see what I can do with the numbers.
  • zimzala: @antfarm $NYMT $TCPC $NMFC $BCSF $LADR $MAIN $HTGC I’ll try and send out my list of #Yieldhogs when I get home.

  • grcjr: @jan2138 $HTGC - watching. I'm tempted to buy although the chart is a bit unclear to me. The current price just under $14 is a smidge higher than the price a couple weeks back, but the price has moved from above the 20dma to under the 20dma. Might drift a bit letting the averages to catch up. I'm adding a nibble and will wait to add more.
  • jan2138: @grcjr $HTGC I see what you mean. It was on a tear until the 11/7/19 ex-date when it adjusted and now it is trying to decide what to do.

  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC If you are long this one, this is good news. Their analysis speaks very well for the company. Kroll Bond Rating Agency, Inc. ("KBRA") has reaffirmed Hercules' investment grade corporate and credit rating of BBB+. KBRA issued a statement announcing the reaffirmation of the rating and stable outlook, as well as its underlying analysis. The affirmed BBB rating reflects the Company's focus on first lien senior secured debt, minimal historical non-accruals including during the financial crisis, and appropriate current and proposed leverage metrics under the new regulatory guidelines. The ratings are also supported by Hercules' proven access to the capital markets, solid earnings record and its focus on investing in venture-backed companies with strong growth potential as well as robust risk management and monitoring practices.

  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC Perhaps you will recall the founder and CEO, Manuel Henriquez, voluntarily stepped aside as chairman and CEO in March, when he and his wife Elizabeth were named in an alleged college-admission cheating scheme. They appointed Scott Bluestein as chief executive officer and president, effective immediately. The specialty finance company said that Mr. Bluestein, who has been serving as interim CEO since March, has also been elected to Hercules' board of directors.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC FYI, They announced that they have closed a private offering of $105.0 million aggregate principal amount of 4.77% notes due 2024 (the "Notes"). The Notes are unsecured and bear an interest rate of 4.77% per year, payable semiannually and will mature on July 16, 2024, and may be redeemed in whole or in part at any time or from time to time at the Company's option at any time plus a premium, if applicable. The Company expects to use the net proceeds from this offering (i) to pay down existing credit facilities, (ii) to fund investments in debt and equity securities in accordance with its investment objective, and (iii) for other general corporate purposes. Institutional Bonds due 2024 initially assigned a BBB+ by Kroll Bond Rating Agency.Provides liquidity to support record year-to-date investment portfolio growth.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC BTW, that announcement is good news. I suspect that the rate is lower than the debt they will be repaying and it extends the maturity of much of their debt out to 2024. The investment grade rating is a plus too.

  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC 's BBB rating has been reaffirmed by DBRS. Their reasoning is a plus. The reaffirmed BBB rating reflects the Company's moderate financial leverage, solid risk management framework and sound portfolio monitoring. DBRS also noted Hercules' concentration in first-lien senior secured debt investments, diversified funding with strong access to the capital markets, track record of low levels of non-accruals and minimal net realized losses on investments since inception in 2003.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC the yield is 9.99%. This is the one I was experimenting in by selling my position the day before it went ex with the intent to buy it back afterwards at a profit. My break-even is $13.37. With it trading @ $12.80, it looks like I was a genius for selling it. The 200 day sma looks like a reliable support level so I will probably buy it back soon. BTW, this is the company whose CEO was involved in the pay for entry to college scandal and was replaced. His other attempt to farm out the portfolio management to a company headed by himself was blown up by the shareholders. Good riddance to bad rubbish as we used to say.

  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC is offering 5 million shares @12.64 per share. It pulled back at the open but has recovered most of the gap down and is off only slightly on the day. Usually, there is a much more dramatic move offering good opportunities to move in. The offering price is 23% above the last reported NAV of $10.26 so it is accretive to current shareholders. Yield is 9.95%. My exit @ 13.69 looks even better now. Will be adding back.
  • mepcc1: @jan2138 $HTGC Thanks - added at $12.69 but not enough in view of run up...
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC This last went ex-div. on 5/9/19. I decided to see if I could take advantage of the ex-div. adjustment by selling my position on the 8th with the intent of reentering when it looked like it was time. I sold it @$13.69. The dividend is .32 so my break-even is $13.37. Well, it turned out to be a pretty good move as it is now trading at $12.88, and I have not bought it back. The recent low was $12.67 just below the 200 day sma. Normally, I do not trade my positions around the ex dates but this worked out pretty well. Sometimes being lucky can pay off=:+))

There are a number out there and it be like trowing darts. These would be away and forget about issues so looking for the ones that have paid dividend a number of years and increasing over time. Hope you would give me some stocks to consider that meet what I'm looking for? Appeciate any helps.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC Back on 5/9/19, the day before the ex-div. day, I sold my position giving up the dividend with the intent to buy it back at a price below my sale price less the amount of the dividend. This is not a trade I make very often, and it was more of an experiment. I sold the shares @ $13.69. The dividend is .32 so my break-even as I figure it is $13.69 less the .32 = $13.37. I need to buy it back below $13.37 just to make it work at a minimum. RN, it is trading @ $13.25 so, I am ahead a little bit. I am not rushing to complete this round trip in this market, but I do want back in.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs #High yield issues I prefer rhrn: After looking at the recent earnings reports, the issues I like for their excellent dividend records, Book Value and NAV performance, Core Earnings, and general condition of their portfolios are $HTGC, $LADR, $MAIN, $NEWT, $NRZ, $SAR, $TCPC, $TSLX. This does not mean they are at good entry points rhrn but rather, when you do see one, consider getting involved. There are others I like but not as much as these.
  • grcjr: @jan2138 $HTGC $LADR $MAIN $NEWT $NRZ $SAR $TCPC $TSLX #High THANKS!
  • JoeTrader: @jan2138 $HTGC $LADR $MAIN $NEWT $NRZ $SAR $TCPC $TSLX #High Thanks for these...do you follow $DMLP?
  • mepcc1: @jan2138 $HTGC $LADR $MAIN $NEWT $NRZ $SAR $TCPC $TSLX #High THANKS - have a good weekend everyone.
  • RedLeaf1: @jan2138 $HTGC $LADR $MAIN $NEWT $NRZ $SAR $TCPC $TSLX #High Thanks! Have a good weekend.
  • jan2138: @mepcc1 #HOGS All the ones I really like do not appear to be at buy points now. And, in this market, it's not a good idea to gamble. I did buy some $LADR on the 8th, and it fell even more. I put in another bid at the low and just missed it. It's up over 1% today, but I am waiting 'til Monday before I do anything. I am watching $HTGC which I sold before it went ex with the intent to buying it back. It's not quite where I want it to be yet. I think you could consider $TSLX which I am. I was even thinking about $OXLC.
  • mepcc1: @jan2138 $LADR $HTGC $TSLX $OXLC $MAIN #NRZ #HOGS - Thanks so much - good to hear you echo my thoughts - had all these except $OXLC on a short list - will take a look. Have been going through your notes and the charts alphabetically and coming to the same conclusion - was going to wait for Monday - also have a note to self to watch price action on $MAIN on the day of the June supplemental - believe it is at the same time as the regular June dividend which should (hopefully) = a nice gap down. WHAT ABOUT #NRZ? In a very tight squeeze.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC FYI: Cut to Market Perform From Outperform by Wells Fargo. My guess is because of the recent rally, and it does not look like an Outperformer rhrn.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC I have sold my position and taking some profits because it looks pretty lofty rhrn. Also, it goes ex on Friday and will adjust by the .32 regular and the .01 supplemental dividends. I think it may move down more in subsequent sessions when I will consider reentering. Their recent ER looked good and the increase in the regular dividend plus the declaration of the supplemental were very positive.
  • jan2138: @yieldhogs $HTGC Raised to Buy From Neutral by B. Riley. Price Target Raised to $15.00/Share From $11.50. Good news.
