- DAN: @Cheezit $usm Cheezit, before you trade it, make sure you know why it's down. (I don't know the stock at all, so I can't help you with that. But it's just important to know why it's down. It's not trading now).
- phgruver: @DAN @Cheezit $USM reported earnings this morning. They beat estimates nicely, $0.52 eps vs $0.41 estimates, but they guided lower. It appears that the stock is being punished for guiding lower....
- TunaHelper: @Cheezit $usm One thing you may want to consider is the average daily volume, the volume today, and the ratio of the two. USM's volume today is pretty lackluster (currently 142,824), the average volume is pretty anemic (155,250/day), and as a ratio I think its not super noteworthy (relative to prior large volume days over the past year). That would lead me to believe there are better > 3SD drop trades to focus one's attention - ones with higher avg daily volume, showing a multiple of average volume on the day of the drop, providing a ratio which shows some sense of capitulation.

- jan2138: Fixed Income- 2 more updates and then I will go back to lurking for awhile. TDA and TDI, 2 ET Debt securities, investment grade, issued by $TDS, a company GAMCO is very interested in, i.e. @Mario Gabelli who owns about 8% of this company. He has been critical of $TDS having turned down a 50% premium bid when the stock was in the 60's some time back. Both of these issues have pulled back and are now yielding over 12% again. If interested in these, check the charts as they look a bit different when they should really be similar except that TDA is much more liquid. Earnings announcement 2/26/09 as with USM. $TDS owns a slug of $USM common. Just a heads up for any of you yield hogs.
- jan2138: Searenity: Yes- and TDA & TDI,debt instruments of $TDS , which owns a significant stake, 80.8% in $USM, are worth a look. @Mario Gabelli owns about 8% of TDS.
- jan2138: FIXED INCOME: I have posted about 2 Exchange Traded Debt Securities, UZG and UZV which are both trading at attractive discounts to par and yielding over 12%. Here are 2 others which look very attractive, TDA and TDI which are also ETDS, investment grade and are yielding over 13%. These are debt securities issued by $TDS which happens to own 81% of $USM, the issuer of UZG and UZV. They are relatively illiquid which can really affect the volatility either way, but I think at these yields, they can be scaled into and held for the divs. while waiting for the oversold condition of these issues to moderate and move towards par when the markets improve. If they should gap down when a sell order of any size comes in, it's an opportunity that should be acted upon if the credit condition of the issuer has not changed.
- Mark: @jan2138- WSJ is speculating that $USM may be a takeover candidate by $VZ, but not right away. I won't post the link here. If they get a bid, UZG AND UZV COULD go from 14.90 and 16.27 to 25. I hope it happens sooner than later. Mark
- jan2138: USM-up 6.50% in today's mess. Perhaps a sympathy move to T's acquisition of CYCL at a huge premium. Note, the $USM pfds. moved up nicely too. UZV up 8,9% and yielding 11.87%; UZG up slightly and yielding 13.38%. UZG in a volatility #squeeze with the mid bb acting as support. UZV is "hanging" with the mid bb too and in a volatility #squeeze. An update on previous posts on these 2 preferreds. Volume in UZV was high today, relatively speaking, almost double the normal. IMHO, these 2 bear watching.
- Mark: @jan2138- I noticed these too, but don't think $USM is a candidate for a bid by $T since it uses CDMA. $T uses GSM. Do you have any idea why its up? $USM did have an excellent earnings report. FWIW Mark

- DAN: @Gabe, good watchlist. Nice mix of industries -- chemicals, consumer stuff, drugs, electronics/tech, energy, metals, manufacturing, telecom, and even a couple of utilities. Most in nice uptrends. I assume this list is generated by a scan, right? If so, how did $DELL, $GRMN and $USM make the same list as $PPO, $BMI, etc.?
