If you crave a good. dividend, add one good one to the mix.

  • geotheo: $WLL $SWN $STO $QEP $NE $NBR $GPOR $ESV $CHK $APA Some Energy stock that haven't run a bunch (a.k.a. laggards) that I'm watching. Most are hanging out just below the 200ma, 50ma, or have multiple bottoms. Most need a little pull back for safer entries. Energy working. Maybe these boats will be lifted.
  • Bridget: $NE this beaten down energy stock is showing some bullish divergence in the MACD on the weekly and now looks to be pushing on the upper bollinger band with the 50MA now providing support. Will wait to see if this can close above $6. I would also like to see the 20MA above the 50MA on the daily before I decide to buy. This will likely need a bit more base building before moving higher but I think the bottom is in.
  • infocus: $NE $OSUR Out of 2 more stocks today with very small losses. Account left with only 2 positions, both near breakeven. Risk management, likely for the rest of the month. It IS October. Only down about 2% from account high for the year. That's enough!
  • Bridget: @infocus $NE I 'm also watching $NE. Nice sideways consolidation but lots of overhead resistance.

  • tnt: Time to look at the trashy offshore energy names like $NE $RIG $DO. Huge short interest ratios still & short covering just a matter of time now as OPEC cooperates. Many printing high volume capitulation bottoms with room to run. $NE I think goes to $8.50 (200 day moving average) which would be a huge percentage win
  • tnt: $NE chart https://www.tradingview.com/x/szRnpUSO/ $NE big volume recently hammering in tradable lows as oil moves higher. 39 million shares sold short for juice higher. Symmetrical triangle printing here. Next leg looks higher.

  • Bridget: $NE I'm not familiar with this company, but I see the 50MA turning up, a breakout from consolidation after earnings, and an inverse head and shoulders pattern. I have an alert for when this stock gets above the 200MA. They beat earnings and could run higher from here if oil prices continue to rise.
  • traderbren: @Bridget $NE - yes, they could run higher, plus the stock is HTB. NP, but did take advantage of the move off the bottom. I should of held instead of trading out.
  • Lou: @Bridget $NE - one of the best positioned drillers in any upturn. The company got rid of all of its old equipment when it spun off $PGN. It is an old fave of mine. I started rebuilding my position in $NE early in October and am long shares and short 12 and 13 puts for this month. Pays a 15 cent/q dividend so a nice holding
  • GOOSE: #Point & Figure Chart (FWIW) $XOM Gave a buy signal @84.00 Long. Glad I bought back the calls earlier. $NE BROKE A QUINTUPLE TOP @13.0 FOR A HUGE BUY SIGNAL. NP NOW. These are rarely seen.
  • Spotdog: Dan, The other night you showed a "powerful" chart pattern. A squeeze with the 50 and 200 parallel. Is that what you see on $NE now?
  • traderbren: $NE and $VLO -- moving....
  • traderbren: #Observations: seeing some energy $NE, $EOG, $PSX, $VLO, $SLB gettting a bit this AM. Also, some biotech/pharma getting buying interest from deeply oversold levels - $CEMP, $LLY. We could see a continued melt-up into overhead resistance if Fed has good things (BS) to say in the Minutes this afternoon.
  • champ: $NE shares halted on a div cut to 0.15 from 0.37.
  • sgr606: $NE is making a bounce off the 50dma, bought some. Low risk entry with stop under 50dma
  • Lou: @sgr606 $NE -following you; opened new position in $NE. This was a very long time trading vehicle that made some nice gains. I traded shares and options but have been away for quite a long time. Just got back in at 12.40. Will look to build position. Terrific rig portfolio - spun off all of the low performers to $PGN (one of my follies). Thanks for calling my attention to this.
  • Lou: As I posted on SMM. I followed @SGR606 into $NE by going long at 12.40. However, it's in my nature to press with short puts - STO $12 puts for November for .96 .
  • champ: @Forexpro $NE - Thanks, for the update on the dividend....good info. A few of my reasons for this stock as one of my picks...A strong well known respected company in Europe, many drillers have cut back their div and some have even eliminate theirs al ...
  • champ: $LYB - New position this morning...climbing. Drillers are all up and acting very well this morning. $ESV and $RIG running together both are up over 5% and $NE is up over 8%...it has the largest div at 11.78%....I'm long all 3. $CRR is leading the sand companies this morning up now over 7% beating out $SLCA and $EMES. Also watching $NUGT and $GDX a couple of gold plays. I have a swing from Friday in $GDX. $BBG is still climbing.
  • traderbren: $NE - like the way $NE is trading. I took half a position yesterday. Still holding.
  • Aragorn: @traderbren $NE agreed. Do you use other moving averages other than the std 50 200. The 100 ema it hit and pulled in a bit. Just watchtht he 100ema 100 simple 150 for both and the 200 for both. They are all valid. It is worth peeking before taking action to see them on another layout so they are not always in your face and cluttering your charts. Just a suggestion.
  • champ: $FANG - Sold 1/2 this morning on the news that the tgt was lowered to $88 this morning at Topeka Capital but they said the stock still remains one of their top picks but it's dropping now and turned red just like $CXO did this morning ....so I'm now out. Any oil stock thats red is now on the bottom of my watch list but I had a good run on both. I just want to point out that both of these oil stocks don't have dividends....many other do and I have positions in $CVX $XOM $OXY $NE $ESV $RIG $BP $MRO $KMI $LINE and also these 3 stocks that don't have dividends $CIE $OAS and $BBG. I think the stocks that have dividends might not drop as fast on any turn in this sector IMO. I have trailing stops on all position and some have brackets. Also watching $SLB....no position.
  • mradams0621: @champ $FANG $CXO $CVX $XOM $OXY $NE $ESV $RIG $BP $MRO $KMI $LINE $CIE $OAS $BBG $SLB Do you ever trade the ticker $OIL? Would you agree it is not a good choice as an oil holding position? I think it is just used for short term trading maybe?
  • traderbren: @Aragorn $NE - Thanks for the suggestion. I have three (3) layouts; my standard view with basic 20, 50, 200 dma, with ADX, and MACD. Then I have two other views that provide a snapshot; a chart with an 8ema set at 15min. And lastly, what I call Big Picture to get an overall view with 20ema and 5ema, with W%R(20), and MACD. Nothing really that scientific, but they provide some tea-leaves to arrive at a decision.
  • champ: $USO - New Oil stocks I'm in this morning near the lows that pay a good div and all are breaking thru the 50 day ...$MRO $OXY $NE this one pays 12.53% that should be safe...? Still holding these swings $FANG $OAS $KMI $CXO and this spec swing $BBG thats got beat-up pretty bad....up around 40% over the last 5 days or so ...many upgrades the last few months. I got OUT of $PAA seeing a common stock and debt security filings on 9/28 ..don't know whats going to happen....so I took the profits and rolled into $ENB. Watching all real close with bracketed trailing stops on all.
  • Forexpro: @champ $NE Hi, Champ, Yeah, the dividend actually looks as though it could be okay. The earnings are negative at present, but the company has free cash flow. The dividend on 242 mio shares outstanding amounts to $363 mio, and free cash flow for the most recent 12 months was $478 mio. Past performance is no guarantee of future results, of course, but the financial ratios that I took a quick look at don't appear to be too dire. This isn't the most robust company out there, but it doesn't strike me as an unreasonable bet, for whatever that's worth. Best of luck with it, whatever you decide!

Don't really know if we seen the bottom in the metals or oil...? Even $LPX this lumber co was up 4.6% today ....one of my long term position. All of these could be false moves because of short covering today. We might find out tomorrow or could see a start in the next few days. Might have a ready, set, go trades coming up...I sure don't have a clue but I have the ready part done and made a couple of small goes ...in testing the water trades.

  • Lou: @msb _ not looking back on $PGN. I was wrong and am sorry others followed me into that stinker of a trade. I thought I might replicate my big winners when $MUSA was spun off from $MUR and $PSX was spun off from $COP. No such luck with this spinoff from $NE.
  • TaxFish: @GreenGhost $HP $CAM $NE $BZH I picked up on some similar price action also, all coiling into a VS right off major moving averages. I've seen these patterns preceded by nice runs.
  • Steve _K: with the pullback in /cl (oil) related stocks have also pulled back nicely $NE $RIG $SU $HAL $ESV are a few that i am watching
  • hallsreef: $NE stopped out as it broke bottom trendline from March. May be setting up a sideways channel, which would make fundy sense. The top trendline from Nov has proven to be strong as death resistance and a great place to short. Alerts set at 18.00 (channel top, or place a breakout would occur) - now waiting to see where it lands. Just when you think you got it figured out, the dollar gaps up. Sigh.
  • Steve _K: $NE has yet to cut their dividend in the oil sector with a very nice yield
  • hallsreef: @Steve _K $NE like this one too. I bought back in on this last pullback Thursday and Fri.

  • tnt: @Iceman I have many of those tickers on my watchlist as well, but they are not the names I would be watching for "confirmation". $RIG $DO $APA $NE are focused on offshore drilling. Definitely not the place to be imo. The best names right now are domestic onshore shale companies with a more oily focus. Nat gas has been significantly weaker when compared to oil. I have posted 4 of my favorite setups here, 3 of them being inverse head and shoulders retesting neckline. Buy the pullbacks going forward imo
